Posters are $10 each. .
ARTIST’S SPOTLIGHT
Holly Irwin, Artist featured at the Lighting of the Trees.
To view and purchase Holly’s Work visit the Lyons Share in downtown fairhope, or go online to www.lyonssharegallery.net
Holly Irwin was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and studied fine art at Carnegie-Mellon University and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Irwin’s formal training emphasized drawing as the foundation of all art. Drawing the figure from live models is part of my ongoing dicipline. I constantly experiment with different ways of conveying the human form. Irwins work is about simplicticly and beauty in contemporary life. A passion for figure drawing is the basis for my often quiet, reflective paintings. Her goal is to balance line and form, representation and abstraction. I use a rich, warm color pallette, building up layers and depth. Each painting has a history of searching and sketching before intuition takes over and the final story begins. Holly Irwin’s “One Star” painting is the featured artwork for 2008
All About Fairhope
Over a hundred years old, Fairhope prides itself on being a welcome home to many artists and intellectuals. This embrace of creativity is made apparent by the collection of diverse shops, boutiques, cafes, art galleries and gift shops. The liberal use of wrought iron in the architecture and the constant sound of live entertainment are remi niscent of the Big Easy. Although long moss-draped live oaks views of the Mobile Bay, its many festival offerings
known for its lovely parks, and its sweeping panoramic Fairhope is now famous for throughout the year.
Its three day Arts and Crafts festival, ranked 10th in the nation, the Grand Festival of Art in the fall, the November lighting of the trees and Mardi Gras in February are just a taste of its year long community celebrations. There is also an Art Walk on the first Friday of every month where the local art galleries open their doors and provide a reception to reveal the openings for the month. Add to this the constant music and food festivals and you have a vacation recipe for the mind, body and soul.
