The predominance of my professional career was devoted to Clinical Pharmacy; a life quite different from "counting, pouring, licking, and sticking", as seen by the general public. It began as a clinician, in the hospital, counseling young residents on medications essential to their diagnoses, progressed to a faculty position, in a state university, teaching those students who would become young residents, took a turn to administration, overseeing those young residents who laboriously became proud physicians and pharmacist, ultimately retiring as a preceptor and senior clinician employed as a prescriptive liaison Doctor and the complex patient. Opportunities for writing, perhaps not obvious, were plentiful; lectures, lesson plans, consults, chart notes, evaluations, and the occasional journal article, viewed as paper work by many but a passion for me. As I settle back in retirement, my urge is now to cultivate that passion and give it back as a freelance medical writer.
