Artist Statement - NEAR LIGHT “Painting gives me an opportunity to experiment and play. It gives me a place to tap into my deepest self and I treasure the the time alone working in my studio. Each painting becomes an exploration of color relationships. I typically work within a limited palette meant to evoke a contemplative mood. I start without a sketch or decisive plan and after my first mark on the canvas each consecutive move becomes a response to what I see before me. If we say that the act of painting is a sustained dance between an artist and their work - my paintings and I engage in a ‘slow’ dance. Through abstract visual language, repetition and layering, I find meaning in form and process. I apply the paint with a light touch choosing to obliterate any sign of a brush mark. My technique of overlapping transparent layers of oil paint - wet on dry - creates a sense of a shifting kaleidoscopic pattern and a tension between surface and depth. At the heart of my work is an embrace and expression of our universal truths: life is fragile, impermanent and interconnected - a mystery - where much of what I yearn to understand is beyond my grasp. It is also an expression of gratitude and a perpetual reaching toward light. The circular form symbolizes wholeness, unity and the cyclical nature of being. I hope to offer the viewer an uplifting space of order and calm in this fast moving and chaotic world.”

Artist Bio Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Mira Hecht is a D.C.-based artist. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from American University in Washington D.C. and a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute.

Katie Ré Scheidt Lives and works in Roxbury, Connecticut

Artist Statement - ÉCLAT Katie Ré Scheidt is an abstract expressionist artist, primarily working in acrylics, gouache, oils and charcoal. A sumptuous palette and dynamic approach to painting contribute to Scheidt’s style. Uplifting and lyrical, her work is unscripted and often left in a state of dynamic incompletion. Scheidt’s work is about letting ideas flow with the suspension of judgement.

Artist Bio Expressionist painter Katie Ré Scheidt was born in NYC and raised in Bronxville, NY. Always an artist at heart, she trained at Cecil Graves in Florence, Italy one summer at age sixteen, and continued painting in college at Georgetown University, where she majored in Psychology. Scheidt pursued a career in finance on Wall Street where she spent more than a decade, while taking occasional art classes at School of Visual Art in New York. A 9/11 survivor, Scheidt stayed with her firm eight years after the tragedy to rebuild, and in 2010 made a major life change by trading in her finance career for a life in the country, with her focus on family and art. Scheidt’s “Second Act” blossomed quickly as she began selling her work to designers and homeowners, and quickly gained gallery representation up and down the East Coast. Scheidt has built a robust business in custom paintings ranging from abstracts, portraiture, landscapes and nudes. Gestural brushstrokes and a passion for color are characteristic to all of her pieces. Scheidt’s work can be found in private collections worldwide. Her work currently hangs at various Auberge Resorts and Relais & Chateaux hotels in New England.
