JOHN GRANT Language of Color
4
In this work I decided to explore the potential of the tools that I’ve been using to create my more traditional, photographically oriented work. Specifically, the latest digital editing tools, together with my 8 color printer that utilizes archival pigment inks. Working with the smoothest possible color gradients, overlays, and a very broad palette of colors, I have tried to create a cohesive body of work that has continuity and a sense of style that seems meaningful and provocative.
In many cases, this is meditative work, the meaning of which will be different for each viewer. At best, I hope the audience will relate to some internal and universal essence. As always in my work, a way to communicate at a deeper level.
Since I can remember, I’ve been attracted to color—aware that it evokes a visceral response in me—something different than spoken word or musical harmony. To me there is something emotional and intuitively interactive about pure colors and forms in relationship to each other.
