A LOOK INTO THE INSPIRATION BEHIND HER LATEST PAINTINGS
In November 2022, Sarah Boyts Yoder travelled to Cartagena, Colombia to be an Artist in Residence at Blue Apple Beach. The landscape, people, and bright colors of the Cartagena streets influenced much of the work she made during her time there and upon her return to her studio in Charlottesville, VA.
“THE SATURATED COLORS OF THE HISTORIC OLD CITY AND WORKING IN A LIGHT-FILLED AND LUSH OUTDOOR STUDIO INFORM THE INTENSE COLOR AND MOTION FOUND IN THE NEWEST PAINTINGS.”
“One of the works I brought back from my time as and Artist in Residence at Blue Apple Beach on Tierra Bomba and Cartagena, Colombia.”
Through this work, I am trying to reflect the saturated color, texture, light, energy, and layers of such a beautiful place and the people I met.”
“I love this one because of the transparent sections (and pink) but also because it hit the spot in between ease and tension - fast and slow.”

“I love working on paper so much...it’s its own medium, not just a surface. Each type has unique characteristics and qualities. Much easier to enjoy the freshness, freedom, immediacy and relief of mark making - not overworking. Let things breathe!”
“Magnetized by the brilliant color, texture, light and warmth - I tried to infuse the paintings with the same elements and energy.”
