ARTIST SPOTLIGHT All in the Details

Laurie Duncan has been painting and drawing for as long as she can remember, but it didn’t become her full-time gig until several years ago. She was working as a fashion designer when she noticed “corporate America” was starting to take the fun out of her creative process, so she began painting outside of work. “As I started to share my artwork more and get commissioned projects from friends and family, I realized that art was making me truly happy,” says the England native who now calls Hollywood Beach home.

While she has a natural talent for fashion illustrations, Duncan has evolved her portfolio to include

large-scale works in multiple mediums. She’s best known for her watercolor botanical paintings on canvas, noting that her palettes are “heavily influenced by the pastels and happy colors that I discover around Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and the Art Deco District in Miami.” In addition to a selection of art prints and original paintings, Duncan offers custom pet and human portraits. “They are always such a pleasure to work on, as it’s such a special keepsake or gift to give loved ones,” she says. Duncan also enjoys creating bespoke, hand-painted items like basketballs, footballs, and surfboards, and recently launched a series of sports legend portrait paintings. “They’re a great alternative to traditional framed paintings and make a beautiful statement when styled in a home.” (laurieduncanart.com)
