Let’s hear it for the girls!

Ihave had the good fortune to know, and work with, some pretty incredible women in my life (beginning with my mom, of course!). After launching my magazine career at Fast Company in Boston, I moved to New York City to join the editorial team at CosmoGIRL!—the teen version of Cosmo—before moving on to the brand’s proprietary mag, Cosmopolitan. There, I had the chance to briefly work with none other than Helen Gurley Brown before she passed away in 2012. I remember her memorial service at Lincoln Center being like a who’s who of modern-day inspirational women, and working as an editor at Cosmo afforded me the opportunity to meet so many other cool women—everyone from Hollywood stars like Taylor Swift and Jennifer Lopez to political powerhouses like Tulsi Gabbard and Hillary Clinton. All of these women have left a mark on me in some way and motivated me in both my personal and professional life.

Being the editor of Jupiter Magazine is no different. Every day, I meet women (and men!) who leave me speechless. Over the past few years, we’ve been blessed to have some real superwomen grace our cover, including local astronaut Kellie Gerardi, television journalist Randi Kaye, philanthropist Ashley Vickers Brown, model Jena Sims, and actress/wellness advocate Marla Maples, to name just a few. And this month, I couldn’t be more excited to introduce y’all to a few more equally amazing women.

In tribute to Women’s History Month, our March issue features eight local ladies who are truly inspirational, each in their own way. From our cover girl, Jennifer Eckhart, who overcame adversity in her television media career to forge a new successful path in life, to Rachana Vidhi, who came to Florida from India and is now at the forefront of creating a sustainable future (and is a recent inductee into the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame)—all of these women are forces to be reckoned with. I am so grateful to have gotten to know them and extremely honored to tell their stories. I hope you enjoy reading them.

Peace and blessings,

Celebrating March

March is such a wonderful time of year, and many visitors come to Florida from all over during the spring to enjoy a week or two of warmth and our beautiful waters and beaches. We are all so lucky to live in such a gorgeous area and enjoy year-round activities like going to the beach, golfing, playing tennis, riding horses, and taking relaxing nature walks in our amazing state parks. Visitors also come to enjoy all the great shopping and dining options we have in our area.

I’m personally thrilled to be living here, spending much time outdoors and enjoying nature and sports alike. And this month, I’m very much looking forward to sitting outside and reading our March issue, which celebrates women and the power we hold when we support one another. As you explore the stories on these pages, I hope you’ll feel inspired by the remarkable women featured and motivated to champion the women in your own life. Also in this issue are a few special advertising sections you may find useful. If you’re looking for a great lawyer, check out the Top Lawyers section. And our Private Education Guide, which runs in the July/August issue too, is full of excellent education options in the area. Of course, we always have our Luxury Homes real estate section, Flavor dining listings, and Home Resource Guide in every issue as well.

I want to thank you for your readership and for supporting Jupiter Magazine. Please feel free to reach out to me anytime with your marketing needs—and don’t forget to visit jupitermag.com and sign up for our weekly Insider’s Guide newsletter to keep up with current events and news. Here’s to the women who inspire, challenge, and lead us toward a brighter future. Enjoy the issue!

Home Is Where the Care Is

Nearly a quarter-century ago when Jon Rubinstein was a senior executive at Apple, he was responsible for the development of the iPod. Now “the Podfather” is singing a different tune.

A leadership gift from Jon and his wife, Karen Richardson, is funding a game-changing initiative to deliver acute-level hospital care and post-acute care for patients in the comfort of their own homes.

Cleveland Clinic Hospital Care at Home (HCAH) is an option for patients with common diagnoses that require hospitalization. These include congestive heart failure, COPD, pneumonia, diverticulitis and other acute illnesses.

While they’re recuperating at home, patients are monitored from the Rubinstein Family Hospital Care at Home Suite, where caregivers can be reached with the push of a button. A typical treatment plan may entail a combination of integrated medical technology and hands-on care provided by clinical specialists.

“Not unlike how the iPod enabled you to listen to music wherever you were, this set of technologies enables hospital-level care in your home environment, which Karen and I think is really cool,” Jon says.

“Delivering better care enabled with technology at a better price point is something that definitely makes sense to both of us,” says Karen, a Silicon Valley superstar in her own right who was CEO of the CRM software company E.piphany. ”We’re always looking for disruptive change in terms of capabilities or economics or both.”

Since launching in 2023, HCAH has admitted nearly 2,000 Florida residents to their homes for hospital care. Plans call for HCAH to expand to Ohio this year.

“We’re deeply grateful to Jon and Karen not only for their generous support but for sharing their technological expertise and experience leading disruptive innovation,” says Richard Rothman, MD, Chief Medical Operations Officer for Cleveland Clinic in Florida and a founder of HCAH.

ACCESS TO WORLD CLASS CARE IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER.

No matter where you live, work or play, we have a location near you.

For primary care. For specialty care. For every care in the world.

Based on preliminary metrics, HCAH outcomes outperform those for patients in brick-and-mortar hospitals across several key areas, including readmission rates, utilization of post-acute facilities and overall patient experience. The program has been a hit with caregivers interested in the next generation of care, too—music to the Podfather’s ears.

Tech industry titans Jon Rubinstein and Karen Richardson see great potential for Cleveland Clinic’s Hospital Care at Home initiative.

A LANDMARK YEAR THE LOCAL

RADAR | CHARACTER | BOUTIQUE BUZZ | OFF THE CHARTS | WANDERLUST

On February 9, Jupiter turned 100 years old, and the town is celebrating its centennial all year long. More than 100 free events are in the works throughout 2025 to mark this milestone, and everyone is invited to the party!

The town was officially incorporated in 1925, but Jupiter’s history dates much farther back than that. According to Shawn Reed, director of community relations for the Town of Jupiter, there is evidence of indigenous people inhabiting the area more than 4,000 years ago. When the Spanish arrived in the sixteenth century, they found Jobe natives living along the banks of the river, which they dubbed “Rio Jobe.” Later, the English took “Jobe” and decided to call the area “Jupiter,” another name for the mythological

god Jove (“Hobe Sound” also derived from “Jobe”).

“Jupiter later became an agriculture hub where pineapples, citrus, and ferns were grown and has evolved throughout its history and is now known as a hub for bioscience research,” says Reed. “It has grown from a quaint fishing village into a vibrant community that has maintained its small-town feel.”

This month, help the town celebrate March 15 at the Hay Jupiter! Country Fest at Plaza Down Under on the Riverwalk. The party will feature live music by The Samantha Russell Band and Whisky Six, plus line dancing, a mechanical bull, axe throwing, food and beverages, and more. Stuart’s

SPOOKY SIDE

SEE THE CITY THROUGH NEW EYES ON A CHILLING ONE-HOUR GHOST TOUR

Some of Stuart’s beloved local landmarks have skeletons in their closets—and maybe a few ghosts lurking around too. Curious to find out if there’s any truth to that claim? Take a spine-tingling tour through the city and find out!

In October, U.S. Ghost Adventures launched Stuart Ghosts, a one-hour journey through the city that covers about one mile and hits all the spookiest spots. The walking tour covers seven historic spots (10 on the extended tour), including The Lyric Theatre, Stuart Boathouse, Old Colorado Inn, and Confusion Corner, telling tales of vengeful pirates, malevolent creatures, ghost gangs, and more.

Expert guides (think of them as local ghost whisperers) spill the tea on the city’s darker history, uncovering local legends and mysterious sightings reported over generations. You’ll hear stories that will make your hair stand on end and maybe even catch a glimpse of something…otherworldly. Guests have the option to add on ghost-hunting equipment that detects dastardly disturbances.

5 questions with 13-year-old Miss Stuart, Morgan McKeever

Stuart teen Morgan McKeever started competing in pageants when she was just 5 years old, racking up multiple wins over the years. Crowned Miss Stuart in July 2024, she competed in the National All-American Miss Pageant this past November. For McKeever, now 13, the pageants aren’t just about sparkly dresses and tiaras. Competing has boosted her confidence and taught her many valuable life lessons. An avid philanthropist who volunteers for local organizations like The Salvation Army, House of Hope, and the Martin County Police Athletic League, McKeever chatted with us about some of those lessons she’s learned from the pageant world.

The tours run nightly starting at 8 p.m. and leave from The Owl House on S. Colorado Ave. Tickets cost $26 for adults and $17 for kids 12 and under (kids under 6 are free).

Extended tours are available for $7 more.

To book a tour, visit usghostadventures. com/stuart-ghost-tour.

What inspired you to start doing pageants?

I used to live in a small town in southern New Jersey called Magnolia, and I’d see Little Miss Magnolia riding on her parade float. A year later, I was old enough to compete and I did. I ended up winning and went on to win Little Miss Camden County and Tiny Miss New Jersey too. It’s so much fun!

You’ve won many pageants, but how do you handle the losses? I was disappointed when I didn’t make the top 15 at the national competition. But you can either let these kinds of challenges destroy you or build you. Think of yourself as a flower: you can put concrete over it, but it’s up to the flower to grow through it and create something beautiful.

Any advice for girls who might not feel so confident?

I’m not your typical pageant girl—I’m curvy, I’m sometimes messy, I do archery, I do boxing…. I just think it’s super cool to see that an everyday, rough, tough, 4-H girl can wear pretty dresses and still express her authentic self! So I’d say, be authentic, be yourself, chase your dreams, and chase your passions. You might miss your target, but you have so many more arrows to take another shot. Just be comfortable with yourself and let your confidence grow.

Do you have any famous role models?

Morgan Freeman just because of his wisdom, calm, and coolness. And Dolly Parton! Her wildfire spirit is so inspiring. She’s always herself and gives back to her community. I’m planning to get involved with her organization, Imagination Library. When I was a kid, I struggled with reading, and I can see how far I’ve come. Youth literacy is so important.

What are your goals for the future?

I want to go to college for criminal justice, join the military, and get a master’s degree in pyrochemistry. ❖

She’s Hooked!

CREATIONS ARE WHIMSICAL WORKS OF ART

Palm Beach Gardens fiber artist Jennifer Noelle Hernstadt discovered crochet at an early age. When she was 8, she purchased yarn and hooks at a neighbor’s garage sale, determined to teach herself the handicraft typically popular with an older crowd. “I ended up stringing the yarn around my bedroom like cobwebs,” she recalls with a laugh.

Hernstadt hails from a family of artisans, but it wasn’t until she moved from San Francisco to Miami Beach in 2016 that her creative interests were really piqued. “Everyone was wearing these cute bags to the beach, and I thought, ‘I could make those myself,’” she says. She began sewing one-of-akind canvas totes festooned with Florida icons like crabs and flamingos and sold the bags under the name JeNoelle via her website, Etsy, and local markets.

In 2018, inspired by a close friend who crocheted blankets, she decided to learn the craft once and for all. She immersed herself in tutorials and completed her first project (a belt), followed by a tsunami of blankets.

The following year, she and her husband relocated to Palm Beach Gardens, and when COVID hit, she spent weeks sewing face masks. Around the same time, she also began making amigurumi (crocheted Japanese stuffed dolls) after receiving a book on the subject from her mother for Christmas.

“Kawaii Crochet [by Melissa Bradley] was the cutest crochet book, with photos and instructions for making plants and food and other things with sweet little faces,” Hernstadt

says. “My mom told me, ‘I know you crochet. Maybe one day you’ll be able to make some of these.’”

It wasn’t long before Hernstadt nabbed her first local retail client, Southern Belle’s Cakery in North Palm Beach, after chatting with owner Jamie Fago one day. “Jamie asked me to bring in some samples, and I came back with some of the amigurumi hearts I had made,” she says, adding that Fago decided to place an order for the heart-shaped plushies, which quickly sold out.

Hernstadt began needling everything from cupcakes and ice cream cones to unicorns and tooth fairy pillows—

and Palm Beach’s venerable art and philanthropic communities took notice. In October 2023, she crocheted a life-size dessert table for Pink Waves, a charity art exhibit supporting women artists. One of 20 local artists showcasing their work during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Hernstadt created an all-pink installation featuring macaron towers, donuts, cookies, flower vases, and a giant cake that left audiences stunned.

Since then, her fiber art has been showcased at numerous art venues and charity events in the area, including The Society of the Four Arts, the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County, and the National Alliance for Eating Disorders’ annual Valentine’s Day fete.

The artist also hosts workshops for the public January through May at Lighthouse ArtCenter in Tequesta, The Peach in West Palm Beach, and The Cozy Cottage in Lake Worth Beach. Each workshop (which typically cost

$45-$50) focuses on a project that can be completed in one session, and participants are provided with a crochet kit that includes yarn, a crochet hook, and a copy of the pattern. Hernstadt also posts free patterns and tutorials on her website and YouTube channel. jenoelle.com; @jenoellecreates(YouTube) ❖

OLA’ MAIR BOUTIQUE IS A NOD TO THE VIBRANT ENERGY OF ITS SURROUNDINGS AND THE ENTHUSIASM OF ITS OWNERS

Karina Quiros calls the inception of Ola’ Mair Boutique “a delightful stroke of serendipity.” In an attempt to encourage her two daughters, Emma and Madisen, to dress up for a business meeting related to a different project, she had floated them the opportunity to come up with an idea for a new business in a fresh location. “Intrigued by the prospect, they quickly donned their most beautiful dresses and off we went,” she recalls.

That’s when the concept for a clothing store began to crystallize. “Their enthusiasm was contagious,” says Quiros. “We began looking for potential spaces and shared the thrilling news with my husband. That’s how Ola’ Mair was born.”

The first Ola’ Mair Boutique opened in Jensen

Beach in April 2023. The name—whose Spanish and Latin roots loosely translate to “big wave”— perfectly encapsulates the dynamic surge of ideas and vibrant energy that fuels their brand.

Visitors to the boutique at the Nettles Island Marina enter a bohemian-minimalist interior that offers a delightfully curated collection of stylish pieces, on-trend accessories, and indulgent self-care products inspired by the area’s effortless resort lifestyle. Quiros’ thoughtful selections include local designers like Miami-based Carvalho Couture, a bold print–based lifestyle brand whose cabana cover-ups are a mix of preppy chic and globe-trotter, as well as women-owned and sustainably focused brands like Mavis by Herrera, which offers artisan handwoven bags made from recycled plastic bottles and upcycled leather.

CHALLENGE Accepted!

When it comes to reeling in the big catch, strength is a lot less important than technique

One of the challenges fishing guides are faced with is the variation in degrees of angling ability we work with. It ranges from people who have never held a fishing rod before to experts in the game and everything in between. One thing I’ve personally noticed is that when it comes to teaching newbies certain techniques, women consistently seem to pick things up more quickly than men do. Men tend to default to their physical strength, rather than taking suggestions to improve their technique.

My wife, Tracey, is one of the most naturally talented anglers fishing our local waters today. Over the past 25, years she has racked up an impressive list of angling accomplishments, from ultra-light-tackle snook and permit records to billfish and tuna

catches offshore. She cheerfully goes cast for cast with the most die-hard marathon anglers without ever running out of steam. I asked her to offer some angling tips from a woman’s perspective, and she kindly obliged. Pay attention—she knows what she’s talking about!

What obstacles did you face when you first started out, and how did you overcome them?

One issue I think many people have is being too sensitive about criticism—especially a woman taking instructions from a man. I always try to remember that instruction isn’t a personal attack on me or my ability. Just be patient and listen to advice from other anglers with an open mind. When you get to fish

with a really good angler, pay attention to their technique and ask questions. Even somebody with less experience than you can teach you something.

What’s one tip that really helped you in the beginning?

Practice handling the tackle a lot. My earliest experiences involved a lot of casting and retrieving with bucktail jigs on light spinning gear. Repetitive casting allows you to become more familiar with how the equipment works. Eventually, the rod and reel become an extension of your hands and it feels more natural. Once you understand what the bend of the rod and the resistance of the drag can do on the other end of the line, you’ll know when to lean on a fish and when to save your strength and rest.

How do you catch such big fish on light tackle?

Let the tackle do its job. Modern tackle is designed to place the burden on the fish more than the angler. Lighter outfits are easy to hold onto for a longer period of time, and good drag systems are meant to wear the fish down without wearing the angler down. If

you’re experiencing fatigue from merely holding onto the gear, you might want to size down your outfit.

Any parting advice for women who are new to the sport?

Fishing should be relaxing, not stressful. If you set out to just enjoy a fun day outdoors and respect the process regardless of the outcome, you’ll rarely be disappointed. With social media and all the pressure to be relevant these days, it’s too easy to spoil the experience when things don’t go your way. Just go with the flow and respect the fish. The good memories will follow you regardless of who knows what you caught. Have fun! ❖

MYSTIQUE MAYAN

IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THE ENCHANTMENT

OF THE ST. REGIS KANAI RESORT IN MEXICO’S RIVIERA MAYA

Among the wealth of new properties dotting the Yucatán Peninsula, The St. Regis Kanai Resort reigns as a trailblazing tropical hideaway—a clear departure from the brand’s usual stately aesthetic and formality. Built on the land claimed as the celestial birthplace of the Mayans, this sprawling 124-room resort honors its ancient astronomical roots with a multi-circular design by Edmonds International that speaks to planetary alignment within the Mayan calendar. While you may

need to explore aerial views to fully appreciate the intricate, culturally inspired architecture, the resort’s design immediately creates a personal connection to Mayan healing and folklore from the moment you arrive.

Throughout this intergalactic sanctuary, the true luxury lies in the expansive spaces. A collection of sleek, low-rise white buildings float above verdant mangroves, linked by wooden walkways that lead to a breathtaking stretch of the Caribbean Sea. Even the smallest guest rooms boast 592 square feet and exude Mayan-inspired minimalism—evident in such details as ceramic light pendants and walnut headboards carved with traditional patterns—offset by opulent bathrooms with green marble double sinks and suspended mirrors. Beyond these luxurious accommodations, wide open spaces await, featuring multiple swimming pools, a beach club, several dining options, and countless spots in which to unwind while taking in the natural beauty surrounding the resort.

Wake up over the mangroves, ogle the Mayaninspired design, and feast on ingredients-driven cuisine at The St. Regis Kanai Resort.

The Mayan immersion extends to the spa, particularly through the must-try Celestial Journey. This three-hour experience consists of three unique rituals: Secret Garden, Celestial Energy, and Under Sky Bathing. The Secret Garden includes a guided tour through a lush garden of native herbs and botanicals, allowing guests to create a personalized wellness elixir. Celestial Energy employs color and aromatherapy to align with the Motz (Pleiades star cluster) and the light of Ixchel (the moon), while Under Sky Bathing provides a tranquil soak in

waters infused with Mayan botanicals and hydrating salts, paired with a head and neck massage. For those seeking more conventional treatments, The St. Regis Spa also offers a range of body and facial services using St. Regis and Sothys Paris products, occasionally blended with herbs from the Secret Garden. The spa’s hydro circuit, too, is particularly notable, underscored by a seductive relaxation pool with a variety of seating options, from submerged chairs to nests suspended over the water. marriott.com ❖

THE REINVENTOR

With a popular podcast and a new nonprofit, former Fox News producer Jennifer Eckhart is on a journey of reinvention

For Jennifer Eckhart, a career in media was always the plan. The Miami native graduated from the University of Florida’s journalism school in 2012 and started fresh out of college at Fox News in New York City, the largest media market in the country. “From a very early age, I dreamt of being a TV journalist,” says Eckhart, who now resides in Jupiter. “I always knew I wanted to be at the highest level of media.”

Back then, she never would have imagined that 10 years later, at the height of her TV news career, it would all end with her fighting a very public lawsuit. Those who have followed the case know that Eckhart alleges that one of her colleagues, the network’s Chief White House Correspondent at the time, sexually assaulted and harassed her. When Eckhart notified the network in 2020, they immediately suspended the correspondent and launched

STEVEN MARTINE

an investigation. The colleague ended up being terminated— but so did Eckhart. She filed a federal civil lawsuit against both her alleged perpetrator and the network claiming sexual assault, misconduct, harassment, retaliation, and unlawful termination, a suit that is still ongoing today.

In the aftermath, she found herself facing vicious backlash in the press, all while struggling with complex post-traumatic stress disorder. ”For a while, I was handcuffed by hopelessness,” says Eckhart. “I’ve been fighting a battle on multiple fronts, not just against my former workplace and the man who attacked me but also with myself and my mental health, wondering whether I should remain silent. Many people warned me that the spotlight would be brutal and take a significant toll on me, and it has.”

With her lifelong dream of a career in television media now tainted, she knew that she would have to find a new path to happiness. “Leaving behind what I knew for a decade of my life and suddenly having to regain my footing, I had to enter into this new season of life where I felt like my old self was shedding its layers,” she says. “After all the success I had achieved, I refused to be defined by the predatory actions of a single man, culture, and company. I started to feel that perhaps I was meant for something bigger.”

It was that personal journey of reinvention that would become the basis for a new chapter in her professional life. While working at Fox News, she had floated the idea for a podcast to network executives, but the project never got off the ground. Now she would make it happen. In 2021, she launched her podcast— Reinvented with Jen Eckhart

After being in the trenches of political news for so long, Eckhart wanted this new venture to focus on more positive stories. Reinvented with Jen Eckhart features inspiring tales of reinvention with an impressive roster of celebrities, sports stars, and businesspeople, like Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan, comedian Dane Cook, NFL Hall-of-Famer Brett Favre, former U.S. Navy SEAL Robert O’Neill, and supermodel-turned-business mogul Kathy Ireland. Her guests all share one common denominator: like Eckhart, they have all overcome incredible obstacles and adversity on their journeys to success. The show quickly gained a following and is nationally syndicated on streaming platforms including Spotify, YouTube, Apple, and iHeartRadio. Eckhart says one of her most memorable guests thus far was Eric LeGrand. The former football defensive tackle for Rutgers University fractured two vertebrae in a 2010 game, leaving him paralyzed. “Of all of my guests, he has been the most positive,” she says of the athlete. “He said on my show that he truly believes he will walk again.”

Eckhart hopes to do more to help victims of trauma with a new nonprofit she plans to launch next month. The Reinvented Project will be dedicated to providing support for trauma survivors through animal-assisted healing. Like her podcast, the idea for the nonprofit stemmed from her own journey: Eckhart’s cat, Hampton, is a certified emotional support animal who has helped her through some of the darkest days of her life. “He is the reason I am alive today,” she says. “He has literally licked tears off my cheeks. Hampton has taught me that joy and grief can coexist.”

“The Reinvented Project’s goal is to bring animal-assisted therapy and awareness to the mainstream,” continues Eckhart, who is partnering with leading mental health experts and animalassisted therapy programs on the venture. “Through my own journey, I have learned that mental health is a process. We want to foster resilience and healing through the transformative connection between humans and animals. We will be hands-on at facilities, prisons, and other institutions, bringing animals to help heal trauma survivors who need them most.”

While the path she is on today isn’t quite what her younger self had envisioned, Eckhart knows she is exactly where she is meant to be. “Life is a journey of reinventing oneself,” she says. “Having a platform to provide for those who have overcome (seemingly) insurmountable odds while at the same time allowing myself time to process my pain, to heal, and to celebrate my own resilience has been the greatest gift of my life.” jennifereckhart.com; reinventedproject.org

THE ENTREPRENEUR

Personal trainer Grace Gillespie launched a spirits company to bring clean vodka to health-conscious locals

As a personal trainer, Grace Gillespie often heard the same comment from her clients who didn’t want to give up alcohol in pursuit of healthy living: “Don’t tell me not to drink!” Despite being a fitness junkie herself and competing in national bodybuilding competitions, she grew up in a large family that enjoyed a good cocktail, so she understood her clients’ frustration. “I come from a big, crazy Italian family, one of eight children, and we always wanted to drink and have fun,” she says. “So, I found a healthy way to do it.”

In 2014, she began working with a chemist to make what she calls “the cleanest vodka you can get.” A few years later, she launched her gluten-free, sugar-free, non-GMO Muscle Vodka. The vodka is made using reverse osmosis and is charcoal-filtered 32 times to remove impurities. “It’s made with Floridagrown, organic corn and water—that’s it!” says Gillespie. “I love supporting local.”

Today, Muscle Vodka is sold in 37 states and 14 countries, as well as online. Among the 35 vodka flavors are chocolate peppermint, cucumber, coconut, crème brûlée, marshmallow, and watermelon. The company has also expanded to make craft bourbon, rum, and even moonshine.

Gillespie says she’s always had an entrepreneurial spirit. When she was in the seventh grade, she became the highest seller for Avon cosmetics in Pittsburgh, where she grew up. Her father was a bodybuilder, and she remembers accompanying him to the gym from the age of 3. In high school, she began strength training and played multiple sports. She paid her way through Penn State, where she majored in hotel and restaurant management, before taking a job as general manager of a restaurant chain. At the same time, she began a career as a personal trainer and opened gyms in Pittsburgh and Cleveland before launching Muscle Vodka. In 2020, she and her husband, Rob (a real estate investor), made the move to Florida, settling in Palm City. “I love the small-town feel,” she says of the area. “I love the people, the weather, the beach, the warmth...everything!” She also grew

her business, opening Muscle Craft Distillery in downtown Stuart in 2022, where her spirits are now made. At the distillery—the first woman-owned distillery in Martin County—there is a tasting bar where patrons can sit and sip spirits, as well as a juice bar. Some customers come in for a smoothie in the morning and return for some vodka later, says Gillespie. Either way, she says: “It’s all geared toward health and fitness—the best option if you’re going to drink.” musclevodka.net

THE MOM ON A MISSION

After losing her own daughter in 2022, Pamela Nagel founded Annie’s Choice to raise awareness of teen suicide

In a private room in Bistro restaurant in Jupiter, Pamela Nagel stands before 100 women and speaks on a weighty, and very personal, subject: teen suicide. Tears form in her eyes when she begins talking about her daughter, Annie, a spunky, outgoing, energetic teen who died by suicide in 2022 just one day after her seventeenth birthday.

Sadly, stories like Annie’s are not rare among teens nationwide. According to the National Alliance on Mental Health, one in five high school students has seriously considered attempting suicide, something Nagel knows all too well. Realizing that there is not enough conversation being had with teens about suicide, the Jupiter resident founded Annie’s Choice in 2023 to help raise awareness and provide support for those who are struggling.

“There is such a stigma with mental health and illness,” says Nagel. “Annie found that when she shared her depression and anxiety with friends, she was not supported, not so much from cruelty as from ignorance and not understanding. There is a lot more room for education with our kids.”

At various local events, Annie’s Choice approaches teens with a unique craft initiative that encourages conversation. “We have this mantra of helping teens identify their anchors,” says Nagel. The teens are given wooden anchors and encouraged to decorate them. “We ask kids to think about what anchors them to hope or happiness, and who do they look to when they’re feeling stressed or upset?” she says, adding that the teens are very open to talking and sharing their anchors when given the opportunity.

Annie’s Choice also funds mental health therapy services and sends monthly gifts of encouragement and

support to at-risk teens. The organization will hold its second annual Annie’s Tea fundraiser on May 3 to raise money for support services. annieschoice.org

THE DESIGN INFLUENCER

Marina

Barghouti has

built a thriving interior design business through talent, perseverance, and a little bit of Instagram magic

As a child growing up in Siberia, Marina Barghouti says she always had big dreams. A pragmatist by training (she earned her master’s degree in accounting at university in Russia), she’s definitely more of a creative spirit by nature.

“I’ve always had an amazing eye for design and a desire to create beauty, from the time I was a little girl,” she says. “Whether it was my own room or someone else’s, or just putting together looks, all the people I knew would always come to me for decorating and styling ideas or advice.”

When she moved to South Florida 15 years ago, her dream was to transfer that passion for design to a new context. “I fell in love with the culture, lifestyle, and growth opportunities here, and I wanted to share my style and love for sophisticated design from Eastern Europe,” she says. Barghouti quickly began to parlay her knack for styling rooms into a business, buying, remodeling, staging, and flipping homes and condos. As she honed her interior design skills through hands-on experience, she caught the attention of real estate agents, developers, and builders, who tapped her to style and stage their luxury properties.

Throughout her journey, she shared her experiences on social media, which turned out to be an excellent move. Her fun posts and reels helped her broaden her market and grow her audience,

springboarding her career to a new level. “After purchasing a home to start my family, I immersed myself in remodeling and furnishing the space and shared the process with my engaged social media audience,” says Barghouti, who now boasts more than 700,000 followers on Instagram alone. “My followers were inspired by my creative process, sparking inquiries to hire me to design their homes as well. What began as a personal journey has evolved into a thriving business and a global clientele.”

Today, Barghouti offers an array of services—from interior design consulting and staging to holiday decorating and e-design, a unique online service that allows her to create personalized design schemes within a wide range of budgets. Last year, she worked on projects in Tequesta, Boca Raton, Palm Beach, and Fort Lauderdale, and she is currently in the midst of a big install at a brand new home in Jensen Beach. Aside from private homes, she also works with hotels, restaurants, retail shops, offices, and even yachts around the world.

Supported by partnerships she has developed with dozens of global suppliers, she offers a curated collection of furnishings, finishes, and accents that can be customized and purchased through her website. She also designed a line of pillows sold at Neiman Marcus and plans to create her own line of furnishings soon.

Now Barghouti is turning her attention to a new dream: family. “I’ve always wanted a very large family, and when I found the love of my life, we made the choice to get engaged, merge our families—my two sons and his two daughters—create the home we’ll live in forever, and share it all on social media,” she says. She and her kids moved into her fiancé’s Jupiter home two years ago, and Barghouti has been busy putting her design stamp on the space and planning her wedding.

“I live a dream life,” she says. “I am not only a creative designer but also a mom, a business owner, a brand builder, and a thriving social media presence. I want to continue inspiring others to turn their hobbies and dreams into reality.” marinabargouti.com; @marina.b.style (Insta)

THE BUSINESS MENTOR

Leanne Lopez Mosley truly believes women should have it all—and she’s helping them get it

For 11 years, Leanne Lopez Mosley traveled the world as a corporate executive for the Aldi grocery chain. She left the company in 2018 after having her first son, Beau, and then did a brief stint at another corporate job. But she soon realized that the career track she was on wasn’t compatible with motherhood—and something had to change. “I felt like success came with a compromise,” says Mosley. “I felt like a bad mom when I was doing well at work, or I was present at home and dropping the ball at work. It was always either/or.”

In 2020, she left the corporate world, taking the skills she’d learned along the way to launch her own business. She started out by hosting a goal-setting workshop for women in her neighborhood clubhouse (14 women attended). And just like that, she had found her calling. “There was this moment when I knew this is what I’m meant to be doing,” recalls Mosley, founder of Rich Queen. Mentoring others to reach their goals came easily to her. “I’d spent 11 years coaching people,” she says of her corporate career. “I was always known as ‘the fixer.’ They would send me to the worst-performing teams, and I would turn them around.”

She continued coaching women on how to be more productive in their lives, and after the first year, she realized that the women who sought out her services were all entrepreneurs. These business owners needed help gaining more clients, so Mosley began teaching them how to use digital marketing tactics to grow their businesses, just as she had done herself.

clients have solid messaging, she teaches them how to create an automated sales process that requires very little of their time. She calls the process Feminine Freedom Funnels.

By then, Mosley had welcomed a second son, Lennox, and she knew firsthand the time challenges of being a mom and an entrepreneur. So, she trained her clients in turnkey sales tactics that would allow them to grow their businesses without spending a ton of time on customer acquisition. “There is a lack of women with young children at the top of their industry,” she says. “I thought, what if having a baby actually becomes the reason you have your first million-dollar year?” That’s exactly what happened to Mosley, who hit her first million-dollar year after Lennox was born.

The She Makes Bank program, a step-by-step guide to effective digital messaging, is a key component of Rich Queen’s services. “The number-one skill that will make the most money in your business is mastering your messaging,” says Mosley. Once her

Mosley also hosts the Rich Queen podcast, where she discusses how to scale your business to six figures without living to work. She is a member of the Forbes Coaching Council, and she hosts and speaks at various events around the world.

The Jupiter resident and her husband, Justin, recently founded The Mosley Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to breaking generational cycles of financial hardship. The couple plans to create an online “money school” to teach financial literacy so the next generation can have a brighter future.

As for teaching her own kids what she knows, a recent Instagram post sums up her approach. It pictures Mosley playing with Lennox with the caption: “The best way to teach your kids to chase their dreams? Chase your own and have them watch you.” richqueen.com; theleannelopezmosley (Insta); themosleyfoundation.com

KSENIIA PALCHYK

THE INNOVATOR

Growing up in India, Rachana Vidhi was raised by parents who fostered creativity and experimentation—two skills that led her to a successful career in science and an induction into the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame

Frequent power outages as a child growing up in Bihar, India led to some pretty big light bulb moments for Rachana Vidhi, PhD. With nine U.S. patents already granted (and another four pending), Vidhi, the director of development for NextEra Energy Transmission, was inducted into the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame last October.

“This is an incredible honor and a very meaningful milestone for me,” says the Palm Beach Gardens resident. “I was pleasantly surprised when I found my name among the list of inductees, considering some of the past inductees include distinguished inventors such as Thomas Edison and Henry Ford as well as two Nobel laureates.”

Vidhi was raised in India by a cardiologist father and university professor mother in a household that placed an emphasis on education and experimentation—qualities she now aims to instill in the 3-year-old son she’s raising with her husband (and fellow inventor), Prasanna Shrivastava. “I was fortunate to have very supportive parents who provided the fertile ground for creative trial and error growing up,” says Vidhi. “My dad told my sisters and me inspiring stories of inventors and scientists almost daily.”

One of Vidhi’s earliest scientific “aha” moments came when she was a teenager. She had been learning about batteries and

solar, and her parents provided her with supplemental materials to read and urged her to experiment. That’s when she discovered that single-use AA batteries could be recharged. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in energy engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, a master’s degree in management from Harvard University, and a PhD in chemical engineering from the University of South Florida.

After working as a research assistant at the University of South Florida’s Clean Energy Research Center, Vidhi joined the team at Juno Beach–based NextEra in 2014, where she strives to create a sustainable future. Her patents integrate renewable energy (such as solar) and battery storage technologies, as well as estimate long-term battery degradation. Vidhi’s innovations contributed to NextEra building the world’s largest solar-powered battery system at The Manatee Energy Storage Center in Parrish, Florida in 2021. The battery storage capacity went from 20 megawatts to 409 gigawatts and can now provide power to approximately 329,000 homes for more than two hours, allowing consumers to benefit from solar even when it’s dark or cloudy outside.

Vidhi also spends time empowering young girls and women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM), both in her hometown in India and locally.

At home, she finds that much of what has contributed to her successful inventions also applies to parenting—namely, creativity and collaboration. “I find strong parallels between inventing and parenting,” says Vidhi. “Teamwork and diverse perspectives have led to several of my innovations. Every new structure my son creates with Legos or Play-Doh are seeds of creativity that grow into further inventions later in life.” nexteraenergy.com; floridainvents.org

CARLA TRIVINO

THE CAREGIVER

Through her nonprofit, Rescue Life, Meg Weinberger houses and rehabilitates neglected animals and creates healing connections between animals and people

Raised on a horse farm in South Florida, Meg Weinberger witnessed firsthand the soothing and therapeutic effects animals can have. “One of my sisters had Down syndrome, and I loved watching her work with the animals because they were so healing to her,” she recalls. “When my parents first adopted [my sister], she wouldn’t even walk to the bathroom by herself. Then, all of a sudden, she was saddling a horse and riding it. The horses really helped her develop as an individual with special needs.”

Weinberger’s parents also rescued lots of animals, and throughout college, she followed in their footsteps, mothering three dogs and finding forever homes for the strays she discovered on the street. Years later, when she became vice president of Big Dog Ranch Rescue, she would drive foster kids from Place of Hope to the dog sanctuary in Loxahatchee to teach them how to interact with the animals.

It was December 2013 when she decided to launch a nonprofit that would combine her passions for rescuing animals and helping kids.

Rescue Life is dedicated to the care, rehabilitation, and rehoming of abused, neglected, and displaced wildlife. Resident animals at the 15-acre sanctuary in Palm Beach Gardens include horses and donkeys, pigs, goats, and a pair of plains zebras. Some of the residents—like Dexter the Great Dane and Quackers, a precocious goose—have been trained as therapy animals and are taken to various meet and greets.

Dog-assisted reading sessions are held at health care facilities as well as special needs schools like The Learning Academy in Jupiter. “Dogs don’t judge or correct, so reading to them builds confidence and a sense of accomplishment,” says Weinberger.

Another customized enrichment activity is the Walk A Pup program she designed for The Learning Academy, which teaches students the fundamentals of dog care, including walking, feeding, and grooming. Says Weinberger: “We are always trying to educate people on how to take care of animals. It’s truly about the interaction between animals and humans and the emotional connection they can bring one another.”

Rescue Life collaborates with local nonprofits including Els for Autism, Extraordinary Kids Foundation, and the Dream Ride Experience to provide private farm tours and supervised enrichment opportunities with the animals for both kids and adults. “A lot of the children I’ve met were afraid of animals at first, but it was only because they had never been around them before,” she says. “Of course, everyone likes the mini horses, and Quackers is always a favorite.”

Weinberger is now hoping to use her recently acquired seat in the Florida House of Representatives (she won the District 94 election in November) to do even more good. “I am most excited about making a difference for those I have been fighting for all these years,” she says. “I would love to have a state-run task force to address animal cruelty and also to secure the future and safety of people with special needs.” rescue-life.org

DAVID SCAROLA

THE VISIONARY

Creative talent Kristen Alyce spreads her artistic and enterprising wings by building local brands and continually reshaping her own

To say Kristen Alyce wears many hats is an understatement. Equal parts artist, designer, social advocate, environmental enthusiast, event planner, and digital marketer, the creative dynamo got her start as an art teacher after graduating from Palm Beach Atlantic University with degrees in fine arts and education. “I loved teaching art, but I knew I needed to do something bigger,” she says.

In 2009, Alyce came up with a unique way to help raise money for Resource Depot, a local nonprofit creative reuse center dedicated to sustainably upcycling discarded materials. “I had an idea to throw a fashion-inspired event with dresses made of old Vogue magazines and Publix bags,” she says. She approached Braman Motor Cars’ management team with the idea, and they agreed to host the event at their West Palm Beach showroom. “I called the concept Garbage Gone Glam,” says Alyce.

The event was a hit, and requests for similar concepts began pouring in. That’s what prompted her to turn Garbage Gone Glam into a business in 2012. Soon she was using cast-off materials to make attention-grabbing statement dresses for local socialites, celebrities, and brand ambassadors to raise money at events for nonprofits like the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast and the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County.

A turning point came at a 2015 Jupiter Magazine event at Eau Palm Beach. Alyce hired artist Sarah LaPierre to paint a white paper dress with a beautiful beach scene at the event, which wound up sparking a new fashion business—Vivre Couture. At the 2016 Couture Fashion Week in New York City, Alyce launched her line of custom-designed canvas gowns, as well as bow ties and handbags, which are hand-painted by 15 different artists from all over the world. “Vivre Couture is a higher-end custom couture concept, and the goal is to create ‘wall-to-wardrobe’ attire that is

both displayed and worn,” she says.

Alyce is also the face behind The Palm Beach Life, a lifestyle blog that highlights life in Palm Beach and boasts more than 40,000 followers on Instagram. Through social media, she began receiving requests to build websites, create content, and manage social media, which she currently does for a growing roster of mostly women-owned businesses.

Comfortably settled on the Treasure Coast with her husband and two young children, Alyce recently began collaborating with a small team (including her hubby) to produce photo shoots and creative imagery that continue to elevate her own profile as well as those of local and national brands like Alamea Palm Beach skin care and cosmetics, Corks and Forks Catering, yachting company Luxury Day Charters, and Sophia’s restaurant in Hobe Sound. And there’s still more to come. Says Alyce: “We’re starting to work with a luxury travel company and another private jet company soon. I feel blessed to be able to use what I’m naturally good at to help other people shine!” kristenalyce.com; @thepalmbeachlife (Insta) ❖

Restoring Coral Habitats in Martin and Palm Beach Counties

Florida Atlantic University researchers are working to protect and restore coral reefs along the South Florida coastline and beyond. Coral reef habitats are complex ecosystems that sustain critical fisheries and protect our coastal communities. Since 2014, reefs along the Florida Reef Tract, which spans from the Florida Keys to Martin County, have experienced increased coral bleaching, disease, and harmful effects from human impacts, such as overfishing and pollution, resulting in up to 83% mortality in certain locations.

Using molecular techniques, Florida Atlantic researchers are investigating which species are most resilient to these impacts to inform restoration and conservation efforts.

Invest in Florida Atlantic University’s environmental programs today to preserve Florida’s vital coastal ecosystems for future generations.

PASSPORT toPleasure

LILA COASTAL MEDITERRANEAN BRINGS THE SIGHTS, SOUNDS, AND TASTES OF SOME OF THE WORLD’S MOST LUXURIOUS ISLANDS TO JUPITER

Avid travelers Vance and Sunday Campbell love the island of St. Barts so much, they decided to bring the island to Jupiter. The couple, who previously owned a Spanish restaurant in New York City and a health food restaurant in Westchester, New York, infused their new Jupiter restaurant with the aesthetic and vibe of places like St. Barts, Saint-Tropez, and Ibiza. The result, LILA Coastal Mediterranean, opened in December. “We wanted to create

a place where locals can come to eat the same food, get the same vibes, and hear the same music [as they do on the islands] without needing a passport,” says Vance.

The restaurant took over the space on Tequesta Drive where Andalucia Tapas Bar used to be, and helming the

Lobster pasta; inside LILA Coastal Mediterranean.

kitchen is esteemed chef Sunny Oh, who was executive chef at Nobu Miami for nearly a decade. At the heart of Chef Oh’s menu is coastal cuisine in the form of delicious starters, entrées, salads, and sides, plus an assortment of crudo and ceviche.

Starters include homemade eggplant and zucchini chips served with tzatziki honey and grilled Spanish octopus drizzled with chimichurri and served with roasted potatoes. The Chorize Croquettes, made with potato, chorizo, red onions, lime, and cilantro, are panko-crusted and simply delicious.

Entrées range from sea scallops and swordfish to lamb chops and a rosemary tenderloin. One standout is the lobster pasta (Sunday’s favorite), made with linguine, tomato confit, lobster broth, garlic, onions, and a whole Maine lobster—a dish St. Barts is known

for. “It’s rare to find a restaurant that has lobster pasta on the permanent menu,” says Sunday. “Eventually, we want to have our own live lobsters in a tank. That’s how they do it in St. Barts.”

A unique item on the menu is the tableside Caesar salad for two, where the salad is freshly prepared from a cart right at your table. And plans are underway to add tableside fish deboning to make the experience interactive.

The innovative and extensive cocktail menu reads like a book, divided into four chapters, and includes botanicals, classics, and dessert nightcaps in addition to wines from Italy, France, and California.

When the couple took over the space back in August, Vance used his experience as a contractor to get to work on the design. He lightened the existing space with monochromatic whites and tans, adding pops of color and a living plant wall at the entrance for visual stimulation. Diners can sit in the vibrant lounge or the quieter dining room, and a private dining room seats 40. Music always hums in the background, from live jazz and R&B to global beats and house music.

The restaurant also offers an annual membership (inquire for pricing) that gives diners access to an exclusive menu, guaranteed reservations, and invitations to special events such as trunk shows and wine tastings. 187 Tequesta Drive, Jupiter; lilajupiter.com; 561.406.6509 ❖

LOVE

FAMILIAL CONNECTIONS BREW AT THE HEART OF PALM CITY’S SORELLE COFFEE CO.

Some sisters bond over clothing, sports, or music, but Nichole Johnson and her sisters Victoria and Michelle connect over coffee.

When COVID derailed Johnson’s successful career casting and developing television shows, she pivoted to pandemic-resistant coffee, despite admittedly not even knowing how to brew a pot. She took a crash course in becoming a barista, watching a ton of YouTube videos, before launching Sorelle Coffee Co. just over two years ago.

The name for her new venture came easy: sorelle is the Italian word for sisters. “The core of my business is about the love and bond that my sisters and I share,” says Johnson. “It’s also about my two daughters, Norah and Willa, and the bond they share.”

The original plan was to get her sisters to move to Florida so they could all work together, but Johnson is still working on convincing them to relocate. For now, her sisters pitch in part-time from their homes in Long Island, doing what they can remotely, namely a lot of social media. Johnson is running the daily grind in Palm City with her hubby, Alexander, serving cups of joe from the mobile food truck, which parks in the plaza near Palm City Music School on SW Mapp Road.

Sorelle has its own coffee bean roasts, which Johnson describes as “super smooth and less acidic.” She adds: “You can taste the caramel, cocoa, and honey in our drip coffee and cold brew, and the cherry and dark chocolate in our espresso. What we’re really known for is our cold brew. It takes 17 hours to make a batch.”

Johnson isn’t giving up hope that her sisters will someday make the move to Florida. But being more than 1,200 miles away doesn’t weaken their bond. “If I didn’t have my sisters, I don’t know what I would do,” she says. “My product is coffee and baked goods, but family is my business.” sorellecoffeeco.com ❖
