Community and conversation are on tap at the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum in Delray Beach. On June 16, the museum hosts the final installment of its “Authors Speak: The Impact of Race on American Society” series at Arts Garage in partnership with the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency. Author and professor Simone Browne will stop by to talk about her award-winning book, Dark Matters: On the Surveillance of Blackness, which focuses on the social and ethical implications of surveillance practices and technologies.
To commemorate Juneteenth (June 19), the Spady will welcome Florida Highwaymen artist R. L. Lewis Jr. back to Williams Cottage for a day of live painting demonstrations. Lewis’ iconic works will be on view and available for purchase. Keeping with the artistic tone, the Spady sets the scene June 25 for a discussion of “Radical Pleasure,” a collaborative ekphrastic exhibition pairing literary and visual art by 10 artists, with curator Tayina Deravile and featured artists Khaulah Naima Nuruddin and Sheree L.
