Going the Distance When juggling an all-hands meeting and kids’ homework time at her dining table wasn’t cutting it, this homeowner and fashion industry creative enlisted the services of Gillian Segal of Gillian Segal Design to produce a functional workspace in her West Palm Beach home. “In the office, we wanted to create a tranquil and peaceful

place to work or curl up with a glass of wine,” Segal says. “We decided to work with a monochromatic green palette to achieve a feeling that is sophisticated and relaxed at the same time. The ‘dunking’ (painting an entire room in one color as if it was dunked in a paint can) of the room in Farrow & Ball’s Card Room Green color was such an impactful decision.” Because she is based in Vancouver, Segal worked on this project remotely. Despite the distance, she maintained a Palm Beach aesthetic.

“We wanted there to be this element of glamour, which I think is so synonymous with Palm Beach, but we wanted more of a contemporary spin,” she explains. “To help achieve that feeling, we used a lot of curved shapes, like the custom

rounded trim with curvy squares on the built-ins and a half-circle trim rather than the detailed version that adorns the walls. The playful curves accentuate the rounded corners of the desk and bookcases.” (gilliansegaldesign. com) —Liza Grant Smith
