INDOORS
The West Palm Beach fine artist duo Vibe and Guido create luxury art pieces for the home under the banner of Sabali, which means “patience” in the Bambara dialect from Mali, Africa. The name of their line exists to remind them and others to have patience in all that we do, especially in bringing creative imaginings to life. Taking a page from the unaffected harmony of nature, Vibe and Guido’s Sabali art “celebrates the perfection of imperfection and the permanence of impermanence” and may take the form of a ceramic or porcelain sculpture, painting, photograph, sculpture, or sketch. Each piece is a tangible reminder of the intangibility of life. (sabaliluxury.com)

OUTDOORS Marsia Holzer’s hand-carved wooden sculptures were inspired by the swallows nesting outside her Water Mill studio, but her connection to the art of woodworking lies even deeper: Her grandmother’s last name was Wood and her late husband was Lenny Holzer (“holzer” is wood in German). Coupled with a childhood in the English countryside, and, later, studying the art of wood carving at Saint Martin’s School of Art in London, Holzer’s appreciation for wood is engrained within her. Her totems aim to capture a natural moment in time; a fall collection will build on her summer series. Holzer’s Polo Club home in Wellington doubles as a showroom, filled with sculptures, furnishings, and decor she’s designed and fabricated. (marsiaholzer.com)

BEST IN CLASS

COURTESY OF THE CITY OF WEST PALM BEACH
On Saturday, October 2, the West Palm Beach GreenMarket returns—with fresh bragging rights. In April, it was named the No. 1 farmers market in the country by voters in USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice awards. After a panel of relevant experts curated a list of the nation’s top 20 farmers markets, they invited the public to vote on who should be crowned No. 1. West Palm Beach beat out even market-happy hot spots like Seattle, Santa Fe, and Santa Monica. This season, look forward to the return of longtime favorites and the introduction of newcomers such as Floridian Coffee Roasters, Bartnick’s Bagels, and Surry Co. Smoke House. (wpb.org)

Q&A PANDEMIC PUPPIES

Not everyone’s happy about the world returning to “normal”—especially if pandemic life is all they’ve ever known. If you’re one of the many people who acquired a new furry friend to brighten the tedious days of lockdown, it’s important to be aware of how your transition back to the office and old routines may affect your precious pup. Ashley Clark of Central Bark West Palm Beach clues us in on the pandemic puppy trend—and how to ease your four-legged family members into their new normal. (centralbarkusa.com/west-palm-beach)
PBI: What is the pandemic puppy trend?
Clark: Many people adopted or bought puppies during quarantine and throughout the pandemic. A lot of those puppies have never experienced not having a human at home 24 hours a day, seven days a week—but many owners are now returning to the office.
How did the pandemic affect puppies?
There were less socialization opportunities while we couldn’t experience the world in normal ways. Plus, any change in routine can be very stressful for a dog. For the thousands of pets adopted during the pandemic, this is the first time they’re being left in their new homes alone for extended periods. That’s a drastic change. Pets thrive on routine.
What are some ways owners can help pets adjust to their new normal?
Our daily Enrichment Day Care offers dogs the routine and attention they thrive on. Our structured day offers a blend of mental and physical stimulation that is unique to Central Bark. Additionally, we offer a completely free supervised puppy playtime and social hour each Saturday for pups 8 to 18 weeks of age. Puppy Hour is a ton of fun and provides an opportunity to get in the socialization needed during this critical time frame.

l SPOOKY SLIPPERS
Handmade decoupage master John Derian sources all his prints from antique books, but his latest creation—a menagerie of spooky Halloween-themed slippers as part of his ongoing collaboration with bespoke footwear brand Stubbs & Wootton—is especially spine-tingling. “I am a big fan of Halloween, and I was inspired by this new book I found on nineteenth-century ghosts,” Derian shares. Released in September, the line features five new styles retailing for $550 each. Motifs in the creepy collection include reapers, witches, skeleton hands, specters, and spooks, all inspired by the same vintage tome. (johnderian.com; stubbsandwootton.com)
