To begin the 2022 driving season, PCA Chesapeake’s Tour & Rally Committee offered the “Eastern Shore Tour to the Suicide Bridge” on April 10th. Twisty back roads, lovely scenery and an interesting destinationprovided an enjoyable experience to 72 participants. This driving event was conceived, designed andplanned by guest tour master Tom Divilio.

From Cambridge, we drove our 39 Porsches on some of the most delightful and lightly traveled back roads on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. A series of twists and turns took us through the Blackwater National Wildlife

Refuge. After about 75 minutes of driving fun, we headed to the bridge in Hurlock where at least three suicides have occurred over the years. Our tour ended at the restaurant that sits next to the Suicide Bridge, which crosses Cabin Creek. The group lunch there was enjoyed by all.

Not all tour participants joined the lunch. The photos featured below show everyone who did, minus thephotographer. At the outset, the roster had 84 people in 44 cars. A no-show rate of about 15% reduced those numbers to 72 and 39, respectively.

PCA-CHS 2022 Tour & Rally Event No. 4 – June 5, Sunday

Just from its name, you know that this PCA Chesapeake tour is going to be very unusual. For one thing, it willbe both a driving escapade and a destination event. And it will feature not just one but two distinct destinations. The first is the deactivated BA-79 Nike Missile Base in Granite, MD. The second is the joint Linganore Winecellars/Red Shedman Brewery.

Limited to 30 Porsches and 60 people, this tour is certain to sell out quickly, as it did last year, so sign up ASAP. The registration window will open on May 13 and close on May 20. Three editions of the tour will beoffered on the same day, with staggered start times, for Groups 1, 2 and 3. Each group will be made up of nomore than 10 cars and 20 people, and will be offered a 45-minute guided tour of the Cold War era base that once held anti-aircraft nuclear missiles.

This Tour & Rally Committee event will conclude with a picnic lunch at Linganore. In between, there will bedelightful country roads for us to enjoy in our Porsches. This extravaganza is the brainchild of guest tour masterand PCA Chesapeake President Ron Farb.
