A eason of
Giving
3:00 p.m. Please consider participating and giving generously with unwrapped toys or cash to this wonderful program. The BBQ is open to all members. Also, in 2019 we will resurrect the Hearts and Garage Tour (progressive dinner), benefitting the Semper Fi charity. We need your garage to conduct this giving program. Please contact Peggy Huddleston if you’re willing to assist with this worthwhile event.
W
ow, Thanksgiving is in the rearview mirror and the New Year is on the not-toodistant horizon. It must be the season of giving. A friend of mine recently recalled that his family would get together on Thanksgiving to give thanks and appreciate the things they have…then a few hours later his folks would be in the stores fighting over the best Black Friday deals. I think he was kidding, but knowing his folks, maybe not. That said, I also recall his folks being very generous with their gifts of time and financial assets to those in need. Giving is an important part of life and psychologists report it doesn’t matter what beliefs or religion one has to benefit from the act of giving. In the words of Winston Churchill, “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” As in prior years, our region will join with the Marine Corps and contribute to the USMC Toys for Tots program, with our Toys for Tots BBQ held December 8, from noon until
Looking back upon 2018 region activities, our members have had numerous opportunities for competitive and social interactions. I hope you have taken the opportunity to experience our vast selection of activity options. Moreover, there is no need to stay local; as a PCA member you’re welcome to participate in other region activities as well as those events organized by PCA National. Denise and I have had a great time throughout 2018 participating in the activities of ten other regions, including Porsche Parade, both Treffens, and Rennsport Reunion VI. Over the years, we have established great friendships at these events. The positive energy and enthusiasm are contagious and have added to the quality of our lives. Yes, Porsches bring us all to PCA, but it is the people that keep us coming back. Speaking of the other 13 regions in Zone 8, unique amongst the 14 PCA zones our zone offers inter-region competition in autocross, time trial, and concours. We use a common set of rules (Zone 8 Rule Book) so you can feel confident in your ability to compete on equal terms. You can see the Zone 8 competition series schedule on the Zone 8 Calendar where they are labeled as “Zone 8 Points Events.”
Please keep these dates open – on January 6, 2019, OCR will hold our annual meeting and brunch at the Tustin Ranch Golf Club. Then, on January 19, 2019, the Regions of Zone 8 come together to celebrate the accomplishments of our zone membership at the Zone 8 Awards Banquet. In addition to great social interaction, a superb dinner, and zone awards, we will have a terrific guest speaker. This year the guest speaker will be Lori Schutz; Zone 4 Representative, PCA Club Race Official, Driver, and daughter of Peter Schutz the CEO of Porsche AG that saved the 911! Lori has been showing her 911 Speedster prototype that her father commissioned at PCA National events. The Zone 8 banquet will be at the Hyatt Regency Westlake in Westlake Village where the Zone has negotiated a great room rate for you. In closing, I thank all of our volunteers whose time and efforts have made our activities possible. Moreover, Denise and I wish each of our members and their families best wishes for a joyous holiday season and prosperous, life-enriching New Year.

Book Review Story by Bruce Herrington
SPEED READ: PORSCHE 911 by Wayne R. Dempsey, published September, 2018 by Motorbooks, Minneapolis, MN. Perhaps appropriate to its title, this book has smaller pages than do Dempsey’s “project” manuals. The comprehensive illustrations are of the same style as the cover of the September 2018 Pando, but by a different artist. Seven sections are identified, ranging from “The People’s Sports Car” through “Special Editions and Tuner Cars” to “Porsche 911 Community and Culture.” Each section consists of multiple two-page chapters, each presenting a page of text (including a summary column of Fun Fact, Historical Tidbit and Key Person), with a facing illustration. Each section ends with a Glossary. These glossaries deal with basic features such as “air cooled” and “roll cage,” but also provide enlightenment on such esoteric terms as PCCB, PSRB and PDAS. Somewhat unique to a book on 911s, SPEED READ: PORSCHE 911 devotes an entire section to “Doing it in the Dirt,” describing Porsche’s somewhat under-appreciated Rally Program, not all of which involved off-roading. Though the title refers to the generic model, 911, the individual chapters use specific terminology such as “G-series”, “996/997”, etc. Though other models are mentioned, esp 356s. Being about the various models of 911s, this book focuses on the Ferry Era at Porsche, downplaying influences by Dr. Ing. h. c. Ferdinand Porsche. Butzi is mentioned, but this book is about all the 911s and the various people who were significant in its design and development.
Much of this book is devoted to the racing versions, the 934s and 935s, and of course the predecessor Carrera RS and RSRs. There are also chapters devoted to significant race drivers, including Peter Gregg, Hurley Haywood, Vic Elford, even Jeff Zwart. All told there are 60 chapters, so lots of topics are covered. The two-page chapter format of this book makes it ideal for reading in snatches; the heavyweight, softcover of this book has inner flaps front and back, ideal for serving as an attached bookmark. Some chapter pages include as an “additional reading” footnote, the title and author of a book providing in-depth information on that chapter’s topic.
graphics, eminently appropriate to this skeletonized version of the detailed story of the Porsche 911. There is a four page index, useful in going back to review information presented in the somewhat stream-of-consciousness arrangement of the chapters. Medium-sized, soft-bound, over view of the Porsche 911 world, this book could be a great stocking stuffer. It should be available for $19.99 from your favorite bookseller (ask for it) or from Motorbooks.com. Click on the magnifying glass on the Quarto page that comes up, then enter SPEED READ 911.
SPEED READ: PORSCHE 911 is soft- bound, with 159, 6x9 inch pages, profusely illustrated with ‘posterized’

Central California Coast Paso Robles
& Hearst Castle
Having
recently rejoined the ranks of Porsche ownership after many years of owning vehicles of another nameless “but much wanted” German marque, my wife and I joined PCA-OCR earlier this year and thought joining this tour would be a good way to meet fellow members. We were initially told the tour was full, but someone dropped out, so we jammed ourselves and luggage into our Cayman GT4. Meeting the group initially in Huntington Beach next to the 405 Fwy, we marveled at the collection of 911s, Caymans and Boxsters. A few photos are included, but I posted many other videos and photos from the group at: [https://www.dropbox.com/sh/t1xm9c7vmx4ai84/ AAB9EgTDjVl8WcSJUxoOhNfDa?dl=0]. Leaving around 9:30 a.m., we proceeded in an “orderly” fashion north on the 405, then onto the 101 west. Luckily, every car had a passenger (highly recommended – see later comments too) with only one major holdup north of LAX. We got to our first refueling pit stop (and other “natural” activities) in Carpinteria. Proceeding north past Santa Barbara, we exited the freeway onto San Marcos Pass (CA-154), and stopped for lunch at the Cold Springs Tavern, once a stagecoach staging post and now a weekend Harley hangout, but today inundated with Porsches. After a great lunch, time for the first (of many) group photos.

No Harleys today, Stagecoach Road was lined with Porsches
XXXX We continued north-west on CA-154 past Los Olivos, turning off onto Zaca Station Road just before the 101. Maybe it was the lunch or maybe just the fun roads, but the tempo increased and some spirited driving ensued for approximately an hour. Luckily, we all had route maps and turn-by-turn instructions painstakingly prepared by our fearless leader Sam Berro. This is where having a passenger really came into its own. If you’re in the area you really must try Tepusquet Road!
First opportunity for a group photo at Cold Springs Tavern
Turning left onto CA-166 for a short distance, we rejoined the 101 near Santa Maria for a short blast up to Paso Robles. Wine Tasting at Tobin and James was almost anti-climactic but gave us a chance to cool our feet. Just a short distance away, we arrived at our hotel, and enjoyed a well-earned dinner. The group split up among three different restaurants, and judging from the comments the next morning, a good time was had by all. Saturday morning dawned, and despite the Pioneer Days Festival in Paso Robles, traffic was relatively light, so after a quick gas-up for some of us, we were off again, down another great set of twisties before arriving at Pasolivo for Olive Oil and Vinegar tasting. Another short blast took us to the Calcerious Vineyard for lunch on a patio overlooking the vineyard and surrounding area. Another great opportunity for a group pic! After lunch, another blast around the country roads to get to Burt Baumgartner’s “Man-Cave.” Burt is a friend of Sam’s who was once an executive with Sony / Columbia records and has many tales to tell. His “garage” and the space above was the envy of all men in attendance, and most of the ladies too. Memorabilia included Cars (including Porsches of course), Motorbikes (including two of Keanu Reeves’ Nortons,) Platinum Records and Rock Guitars signed by almost every rock icon you’ve ever heard of.
Our fearless leader, Sam with his one week old 911T
Regrouping after a brief blast along the winery roads
Back to the hotel, just a short distance away and then after “hosing down,” we went in convoy from Paso Robles to Linn’s restaurant in Cambria for an early dinner. The finale came with an evening tour of Hearst Castle, where docents dress up in period costumes as our guide showed us around, as if we were guests of Randolph Hearst himself. We were inside the clouds at the top of the hill, which added somewhat to the mystery of the occasion, although I half expected to be greeted by Frau Blucher!
16 PANDO | December 2018
Toward the end of the tour we sat and watched an old Movie Tone newsreel which included Randolph Hearst imploring the audience to buy US-made products. It seemed ironic that we were all Porsche owners! Nancy and I were fortunate to have been able to enjoy the tour, but for those who had to drop out, really missed a great tour. The roads, cars, food, and wine, but mostly the people, made this a very special and enjoyable weekend. Finally, a big thanks to Sam Berro for organizing this whole adventure. It takes great knowledge, enthusiasm and organizational skills to pull this off. This event happens every 2 years, but we are imploring Sam to do it again next year. Play it again, Sam! The 356 Chronicles The
Or How to (Almost) Get Fired for Restoring Dad’s Old Porsche Story and Photos by Fred Aikins
“My Growing up, we always had a Porsche 356 in the family (didn’t everyone?). First, there was the champagne yellow 356C that my father drove from Chicago to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1967 with me as his co-pilot (Sept. 2017 Pando.) In 1973, dad replaced the yellow 356C with a light ivory 356C that he purchased from the estate of a friend from church. Dad used the white 356 as his daily driver, commuting to his office in San Francisco. Some years later, dad was returning from a meeting when the engine developed a tick. He pulled into a gas station and shut the engine off, then restarted it, at which point the ‘tick’ became a ‘clunk.’ Dad quickly shut it off and had the car towed home. With two kids in college and his own fledgling ad agency to run, there simply wasn’t time or budget to fix it. Meanwhile, I’d graduated from college and taken a job in the auto business as a junior product planner at Subaru’s tech center in Garden Grove. Shortly after starting there, a colleague and I were talking about old sports cars and I happened to mention dad’s non-running 356. Norman immediately said, “That’s a great car! I’ve worked on old Porsches before. Get it down here and I’ll help you rebuild it after work and on weekends.” I ran Norman’s idea by dad and, surprisingly, he readily agreed. A week or so later, dad, my brother, Rob, and a friend had the 356 on a borrowed trailer behind our station wagon. We unloaded it in the back lot of the tech center, where a number of the other guys had their ‘project’ cars. I worked in the Product Planning shop which was run by an oldworld German named Erwin. Erwin hired me a couple months 24 PANDO | December 2018
earlier and was a stern taskmaster, especially when it came to his beloved Product Planning shop. Due to the advanced nature of our work, developing new Subaru’s 2-3 years before they went on sale; we sometimes kept advanced prototypes in the shop which was separated from the rest of the service shops by a rollup door. Erwin made sure that we kept the Product Planning shop impeccably clean at all times, just in case executives from the head office in New Jersey came by. After work one evening, Norman came to me and said, “Let’s get started on that Porsche of yours.” We pushed it into the main shop and put it on a lift. Norman showed me how easy it was to drop the engine out of the car (four bolts!) and we soon had the filth-encrusted engine on a pallet. At this point, Norman realized what time it was and that he had to meet his fiancée for dinner. We pushed the now-engineless 356 out into the back lot. I said, “What do we do with the engine?” Norman replied “put it in a corner of the Product Planning Shop and we’ll clean it up and disassemble it tomorrow.” In retrospect, not the best decision. Why? Because, you see, the next morning, before I got to work, Erwin was leading some of the company bigwigs on a tour of the facility and there, not at all hidden in a corner of the Product Planning shop, was my 356 engine in all its filthy, oily glory. After he’d concluded the tour with the executives, Erwin came back into the office, scowling. Toward the end of the day, he called me into the office and vigorously chewed me up one side and down the other for leaving a dirty, smelly engine in his pristine shop! (Corporate lesson #1: NEVER embarrass the boss in front of his bosses!) He made it crystal clear that I had screwed up, big time, and that I needed to get the engine out
of there ASAP. I left feeling as if my automotive career had crashed and burned even before it had fully gotten up to speed. I went over to Norman’s cubicle, slumped in a chair in the corner and related what had just happened. Norman, one of the most optimistic guys you’d ever meet, reassured me that Erwin would get over it, but that we had better get the engine moved, pronto. We quickly disassembled the engine shrouds and ancillaries, leaving just the case, cylinder barrels and heads, which we loaded into a Brat (Subaru’s mini-truck). We cleaned up the corner of the shop where the engine had been, leaving no trace of oil or dirt on the floor. Later, I gained some insight on why Erwin had been so angry about me working on the 356 – it turns out that he had apprenticed in Germany as a VW and Porsche mechanic in the 50s before coming to the U.S. to work for Volkswagen here. He was actually more upset that I hadn’t told him that we were working on the 356 or asked him to help. (Corporate lesson #2: Always communicate with your boss; you never know, he might be an ex-Porsche mechanic.) Norman helped me find a shop to do the rebuild of the motor, which turned out to have had a broken crank caused by using a big-bore kit with the original, non-forged crankshaft. I ordered a forged 912 crank that could better handle the stresses and had the case line-bored (thankfully, it hadn’t been damaged when the crankshaft broke). Once we got the engine back from the shop, Norman helped me reassemble it. I had repainted the shrouds and thoroughly cleaned everything else. We put the engine back in the car,
filled it with oil and…promptly found that at least one of the 20-year-old oil lines should have been replaced! After cleaning that mess up, we attempted to put some fuel in and start it. I say attempted, because shortly after putting the fuel in, I noticed a rust-colored puddle of gas spreading out under the nose of the car. Sitting for so long, the gas tank had rusted through. We towed it to a nearby shop where they replaced the tank with one I bought for $900 (big money in the mid-80s, especially for a guy on an entry-level salary). Finally, the car was drivable again. I gave it a proper break-in, then I returned it to my apartment carport, where I spent the next few weekends tending to the exterior (wax and polish) and the interior (sheepskin seat covers to hide the torn seats). By the time I was done, it was a good 10- to 20- foot car, meaning it looked almost perfect from that distance. Shortly after I finished working on the car, dad came to Southern California on a business trip and said he wanted to take me to dinner. When he arrived, I said that I had something to show him, and led him to my carport with the 356. I handed him the keys and said, “Here, you drive it to dinner.” He was amazed (and a little choked up), but once he fired it up and ran it up through the gears, muscle memory kicked in and he smiled. It was priceless, and worth all the trouble, even (almost) getting fired. I kept the resurrected 356 in SoCal for a few more years, even commuting in it on occasion, until after I got married, but we didn’t have enough garage space, so I returned the car to dad with the instruction that he keep it covered and drive it at least once a week, but that’s another story… December 2018 | PANDO 25

colorful parade of Porsches lined the streets of Circle Porsche in Long Beach during their Open House.
OCR members were greeted by long-time OCR member and host, Michelle Larsson with raffle tickets and treated to a delicious array of food stations, thirst-quenching refreshments and a variety of tasty desserts. Some of us ate in the Service Bay where the area was so nice and clean, you could see your reflection! The display of Porsches were neatly situated where people could walk around and talk about the contemporary design and aggressive styling. Circle’s enthusiastic staff was there to support our questions while socializing and sharing Porsche stories. Our generous hosts provided multiple raffle prizes with big winners being Malcolm Macondray who won a ‘Classic Car Service’ and Mark Wallace winning a gift card to the Porsche Experience Center. The weather-perfect day was great fun for everyone and Circle Porsche’s hospitality raised the bar!

L
eave from anywhere in Orange County to the Miniature Engineering Craftsmanship Museum in Carlsbad, and you’re taking a leisurely drive down the 405, exiting 78 East, and driving inland to Melrose and Viola, and you`re there in 45 minutes. However, when PCA regions linked together to ‘assault’ the Carlsbad tour, it was a fun, but rigorous journey of 111 miles through all types of terrain taking more than 4 hours of pleasurable, but focused driving. Tourmeisters Larry Moore (Orange Coast Region) and Alan Johnson (Grand Prix Region) gathered the 26 Porsches, approximate 40 adventurous drivers and passengers, to drive to the Museum Tour. The cars varied from generation to generation. There was a 1980, copper colored, air-cooled, 911 SC which had over 209,000 miles on the engine before a full vehicle overhaul. Eric and Chris Peterson explained that they had refurbished the brakes and suspension, including the engine, which they said didn`t really need the upgrade. Truly, the most one-off car was the `92 black, front engine Porsche 968. This 26 year old car had “only” 76,000 miles on it. Perhaps our most notable sounding car was the 2014 white Carrera of John Lym, with the all titanium exhaust system from Akapovic. The deep growling at low revs turns nicely into full song at higher revolutions. But Pram Oen bested everybody again with his brand new 2019 GT3 RS. The charcoal colored Porsche with lime green accents on the rear wing tips and brake calipers produces 525 horsepower. Looking at it from the front, you can notice the square, flared nostrils just below the Halogens, making it a very formidable looking beast. Pram outdid our tour a year ago when he brought his Porsche 918 Spyder. He still owns that car. This time he brought his “back up” car. Also, there were a myriad of other GT3s, Carreras, and a host of Boxsters, and a nice looking yellow Cayman GT4. The weather was clear but cool. Although, when we left the “Coffee Bean and Tea Shop” on 17th Street in Santa Ana and wove our way around Santiago Canyon Road, it warmed up nicely. 26 miles to our first stop and some of the soft tops started converting to convertibles. It was then we started climbing over the hills of Ortega Highway toward Lake Elsinore where you could feel the air getting uncomfortably warm. Driving along Ortega Highway is always a fun run and this time was no exception; except for a
brief downhill excursion that brought our caravan to a screeching halt. A cement truck had to be going around 5 mph on the two lane switchbacks. From high above, our pack of Porsches could have looked like a curving, coiling snake. Yet, after a short time, the cement truck driver pulled over for us. For almost 9 miles in its back country, although scenic, it’s dead straight until you get to Clinton Keith Road. The view from this spot in late October was fields and farmlands dotted with some newly planted Lemon and Avocado trees with several white stately Manors and Ranch houses. Now, vigilance was needed for the next section after Clint Keith Road and Carancho Road, to the troublesome Sandia Creek Road. Keeping our speeds legal, handling and steering was at a casual premium. It was never so evident than when we entered Sandia Creek section. Driver concentration was paramount. The next 5 1/2 miles was 2nd 3rd gear, up and down hill curves that were made more daunting by the road surface. Narrow, off camber, pot holed, rutted and loose gravel made the driving a little unnerving, yet stimulating. One club member stated the Domino’s Pizza campaign to fill in the pot holes could start right there. Easing our way out of the ranching community, we found ourselves seeping our way into residential housing and shopping malls. Exhausted after 92 miles of occasionally a wheel-gripping workout, our intrepid travelers lunched at 5 Guys Hamburgers in Vista. Another 10 or so miles later, and getting closer to the Ocean and the air getting cooler, we arrived at our intended destination, the Joe Martin Miniature Engineering Craftsmanship Museum. Fascinating place. On display they have over 400 miniature machines; trains, ships, famous building structures, clocks, doll houses, old autos and race cars, were all in working order and all at a 1/6 scale and even 1/16 scale. There is a machine in the back room where every component moves, but does nothing. Uncanny. Since this was our finish line, all of us individually found our own way back home. A leisurely drive up the 405 to the confines of Orange County and Long Beach and you`re there in 45 minutes.

Cone Zone Update Cone Zone Grand Reopening by Rob Greene
The OCR Porsche Alley CONE ZONE emerged from hiatus with a patriotic fanfare at the Club’s July 7th Breakfast Meeting by featuring RED WHITE & BLUE Porsches. Although this restart marks the fourth annual series of monthly cone zone adventures, those of you Porsche fanatics who have joined PCA’s Orange Coast Region in the past few months may be wondering, “Where is Porsche Alley and what is an OCR Cone Zone?” A little over three years ago, with a slightly twisted PCA slogan, “It’s the cars with the people,” we began a new feature at our monthly breakfast meetings: One row of parking stalls (hence, the “Alley”) at Original Mike’s was coned off with slightly-used orange traffic cones donated by PCA-OCR’s Autocross (thanks!). Parking in this zone of cones is reserved for a designated class of Porsche or driver that varies from month-to-month. Our first series highlighted different models of Porsche, our second series focused on color to determine which VIP (very important Porsche) would get Cone Zone
parking preference. The most recent series included color exercises, a model type, and different types of equipment on fabulous Porsches. In addition to the traditional RED WHITE and BLUE colors for last July, we featured fixed rear wings, various wheel sizes, all cabriolets, and even no-cones parking by color sorting (think Skittles, M&Ms, or gum drops in color groups!) Yes, we are a funloving bunch.
• FEBRUARY – Air-cooled engines. Park head-in and open those lids! • MARCH – Water-cooled engines. Park head-in and let’s see what you have!
I hope we all continue to have fun with the Cone Zone. Don’t forget to check the Pando for any schedule revisions and additions.
The plan for the new monthly Cone Zone themes follows, and special thanks to members who provided some great ideas! • DECEMBER – Holiday Red and Holiday Green Porsches (still your call on the color, but Lime Green? Really?) • JANUARY – No Porsche Alley Cone Zone--- Attend the PCA - OCR Annual Member Brunch!

RICE’S
Ramblings Story and Photos by Lee Rice
R HAPPY HOLIDAYS HAPPY HOLIDAYS R MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR R FROHE WEIHNACHTEN UND EIN R GLÜCKLICHES NEUES JAHR R JOYEUX NOËL ET BONNE R ET BONNE ET HEUREUSE ANNÉE R FELIZ NAVIDAD Y PRÓSPERO AÑO NUEVO Clean GT 2 wheels. It’s that time again. No, not taxes, that was Nov 1st. So, now its fun time for family, friends, and oh, the Porsche!
Clean wheels & brakes
Clean Ruf-Speedlines.
Happy Holidays also means special things for Porsche owners. Am I right on this? We don’t want to offend, so here goes a few interesting items for the PORSCHE and/or the Porsche owner. First, I had a response on the wheel nut cleaning brush I reported on some time ago. It was stated that some of these with the wire attaching the brush could scrape and maybe scratch the wheel nut bore hole. I suppose it could, if not carefully used. But, I for one was darn tired of using a tooth brush or trying to find some kind of poker with a rag on the end to get the grime out of those snug wheel nut bore holes. That took way too much time and frankly did not do a very good job.
Now these wheel nut brushes, found in many auto parts stores, catalogs, and on line, are readily available and, I conclude are wonderful.(Fig 1 next page) And just so you know, I spray a mix of 50/50 Simple Orange or Simple Green and water on my wheels, wheel hubs, brake calipers and discs, and a squirt in each nut bore hole. Use a wide, soft brush on the wheel’s outer spokes, rims and use the nut brush to do a circular twist – both ways, in each hole. I do all four wheels in about 8-10 minutes then rinse wheels, hubs and brakes. Then, IMPORTANT: Drive for at least 5 minutes and use brakes lightly to warm them and get all the water
and moisture off; otherwise, it will leave a light rust coating on the bare disc! I have to do this on my ‘Daily Driver’ 911 about every 2 weeks to get brake dust and road grime off the wheels and brakes. Cleaning your wheels or your Porsche or anything else, it’s nice to have a spray bottle that works. That means some kind of reliable spray that doesn’t dribble where it is not wanted. The “Flip 360° Spray Bottle” I think can be found at Walmart, or a typical hardware store. I had it with spray bottles that didn’t work! I tried these and it was almost love at first squirt! Hey, it works and I can also adjust to a fine mist for lightly dampening things.(Fig 2 next page) December 2018 | PANDO 37

www. Rennlin.com Oil Drip Catcher We used old soiled shop rags rolled up and stuffed under the oil filter as we removed that nasty oil filter and then screwed on the new filter. It works but still makes some mess. Having not used this, I can’t vouch for it but it appears like a good idea. Look inside December’s Panorama, Page 12. Soon they will be in every Porsche magazine. 38 PANDO | December 2018
Snowbound Porsche! Does it make your teeth chatter ?
Also on page 13 is the updated radio for early 911s with a nice little “tv” screen for navigation information .(Fig 3) It’s not cheap. However, I have an issue with it. The data screen is small. You will need to focus BOTH EYES on it to see what it is showing on its screen and this is not a good idea where it is located. If you need to take both eyes off the road, get off the road and then look at your data screen.
a reliable battery and starter just as our Porsches do. BUT his “just in case,” got this two weeks ago (25 October’18), and he told me he tried to start a nearly dead battery on a brand ‘X’ car with this Mini Battery Charger on the dead battery, and it works. He said he did 6 restarts before recharging his Mini Battery Charger. Sounds like a good idea. Costco has them. (Fig 4)
So in spite of Porsches’ glowing report on this, I suggest they save this one for the selfdriving cars that so many seem to lust for.
Sure we all have accurate time on our celldevices, right? So why the need for a new watch or is it the thing we do to further show off our colors? The thing of it IS, if it’s upside down, or sideways, what time is it? We all see the abundance of time pieces in car magazines, jewelry counters, etc., and it surprises me that so much of our culture seems to have gone over to digital something. So, what’s this rage for old fashion clocks strapped to our wrists? Perhaps we aren’t so in love with digital things? One thing for sure, If it’s a Porsche anything its top quality and reliable. PORSCHE DESIGN at South Coast Plaza, West building. (Fig 5)
Does a real Porsche owner/driver want anything but their own hands controlling their Porsche? Of course our Porsche battery is in perfect condition and never lets us down or lets us worry about getting stares our way because our starter motor grinds slowly down to a halt? But what if? One of my Friday Night Cruise n Car Show buddies with a Concours 1957 Nomad, has

Short story. One time we had a new first officer trying to impress everyone in the Flight Ops. Room, including our Chief Pilot, who was obviously showing off his nice new shiny watch. That thing on his wrist was huge with at least 5-6 buttons, multiple dial sweep hands, and so on. In a short while, I saw our Chief Pilot, I’ll call him ‘Hank,’ walks over to this newbie first officer and shows him his, the Chief Pilot’s watch, Mickey Mouse with hands pointing to the time, you could see the time across the room!
