For some he is the most brilliant man that ever lived, while for others he is nothing more than a nutty scientist with a messy hairdo. His name is Albert Einstein and this is his story.

Albert Einstein

The Scientist of Relativity Đ?lbert Einstein was born in 1879 to a Jewish family living in

Germany. His father’s name was Hermann and his mother’s name Pauline. As a scientist he is best remembered for his theories of special relativity and general relativity1. His ideas about space, time and universe forever changed the history of science, and made him one of the most famous scientists of all time. Furthermore, his theoretical work contributed to the advancement of quantum mechanics, a theoretical branch of physics that studies particles smaller than atoms, which were long considered to be the smallest indivisible part of all matter. Due to his great fame and his peculiar appearance, he is often depicted in popular culture as a highly intelligent but very odd scientist who nobody can understand. In everyday use relativity represents a form of dependency on something else. This means that when something is relative, its qualities are not always the same.

A Concerned Mother Einstein’s mother claimed that her child had an oddly-

shaped head, which grew much faster than the rest of his body. Numerous biographers1 have used this to explain his genius. However, photographs of young Einstein clearly show that his head was the usual size for a child of his age. Still, a genius of Einstein’s calibre deserves at least one unusual childhood detail. It is a well-known fact that he didn’t speak before the age of three, and that until the age of nine he spoke rarely and very little. The late development of speech was at that time interpreted as a mental issue. Based on that assumption, a maid who worked in the Einstein household claimed that little Albert was a backward child.

A biographer is a person who writes about the life of another person, most often someone famous.

A Father’s Gift According to Einstein, a compass he got as a gift when he 1

was a child had a great influence on him and played a key role in his choice of studying science. It was a gift from his father. The encounter with the unusual device was magical for him. He immediately realized that there was something in space forcing the needle to move and measure the different directions in the world. Many years later he found out that it was the electromagnetic field2 that caused it. Thoughts on Imagination Imagination is more important than knowledge. Albert Einstein

When he was asked which one of his discoveries he considered to be the greatest he would always mention the compass. A compass is an instrument which measures the different directions you can move in the world. 2 The electromagnetic field is a special kind of space created around electrically charged objects, or magnets. 1
