Welcome The first event will celebrate the achievements of two of our MSc in Occupational and Business Psychology students, Claire Bruna and Tessa Maarschalkerweed, who co-authored a paper (along with Donna Willis), which was published in OP Matters (the quarterly professional newsletter distributed to all members of the Division of Occupational Psychology). Donna Willis is a Chartered Psychologist and Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Personnel and Development. She is Senior Consultant in Leadership Development for The King’s Fund, an independent charitable organisation that works to improve health care in the UK. Tessa Maarschalkerweerd completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology, with a concentration in Cognitive Science, at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. She is aspiring to be a consultant in Leadership Development and Organisational Change. Claire Bruna completed her undergraduate degree in Exercise Science. She aims to work within the Business Psychology field focusing on team development and selection and recruitment.

Engaging with the Profession Introducing Kingston Business School’s Occupational and Business Psychology MSc ‘Engaging with the Profession’ Series. This quarterly networking and discussion series will seek to address key issues in our profession and provide a vital opportunity for discussion, development and networking to students and practitioners alike. Is Occupational Psychology Beige? The first event in our 2014-15 series Engaging with the Profession.


David Carew is s Chief Psychologist at the Department for Work and Pensions. where he works in a policy role and has responsibility for the department’s psychological services. He is a Registered Occupational Psychologist and has worked in the fields of employment rehabilitation in the public, private and non-governmental sectors. His professional interests include occupational and workplace health, vocational rehabilitation and organizational well-being and development. David is a former chair of the DOP and the current chair of the BPS qualification in occupational psychology.

Gillian Hyde is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist who has worked in the field of assessment since 1989. She has been involved in the UK development of a number of tests – for example the Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal and the Hogan suite of personality questionnaires.

After a successful career in health and fitness, as a personal instructor working primarily with performing artists, Dr Almuth McDowall retrained in psychology and combines an academic post at the University of Surrey, with freelance work as an independent practitioner across the public and private sector.

At PCL since 1994, Gillian’s responsibilities encompass research and development, designing bespoke assessment solutions for clients and delivering high level assessments and feedbacks with a key focus on de-railers.

Her particular interests include working with emergency services, and the development of worklife balance self-management competence.

Celine Floyd is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist and a Registered Practitioner with the Health and Care Professionals Council

Anna Kane is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist; the owner and founder of Ampleo Ltd.

Tamsin Martin currently leads on talent management at PwC, with responsibility for the design and delivery of the firm’s strategy for identifying, managing and developing talent, ultimately to partnership.

Currently a Managing Consultant at Penna, she specialises in the identification and development of talent and executive leadership – helping her clients to leverage the potential of their people in service of organisational transformation, and has a passion and expertise around strengths-based organisational development.

Her main area of work was selection and assessment. She set up Ampleo in 2008 in response to her own concerns about climate change and the role large corporates have to play, and has been an active member of the DOP’s Going Green Working Group since its inception. She is interested in the role Mindfulness has to play in the workplace and considers herself to be a mindful consultant.

Tamsin is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist by background and joined the firm 8 years ago to lead on assessment for recruitment. Prior to that, she worked in research and consulting for the psychometric consultancy, SHL.
