Career coaching - a brighter future the issue
Steven Bright had been working in Accountancy for a number of years but felt unfulfilled by his work. He commissioned PCL to complete a series of career coaching sessions to help him decide how best to move his career forward.
the solution
The coaching sessions took place over a 3 month period, and Steven completed a number of personality and ability questionnaires to help identify where his skills might be best suited. The sessions focused on helping Steven discover where his true passions lay and the best way to achieve these goals. Steven completed the Hogan suite of personality tools. A strong theme across the personality questionnaires emerged around the desire to help people and social interaction. His current role in Accountancy was relatively isolated and he did not get to engage with others as much as he would have liked, leaving him restless and agitated. Steven had been considering a great business idea that allowed him to combine his interest in Accounts and his interest in people, but he was daunted by the prospect of starting his own business. Through the sessions we were able to explore and help Steven address his anxieties, for example his personality profile suggested he strongly valued predictability and stability and this sat uncomfortably with the potential risks of starting his own business. His profile also indicated that he lacked selfconfidence and this too was stopping him progressing with his business plan. By working through these anxieties with Steven, and drawing on his analytical style we were able to work with him to create a structured and realistic plan for how he could move closer to his career goals.
the results
By the end of the sessions Steven was more confident and focused on making his business dream a reality. Steven is now running his own company and is doing very well.
