Risk Type Compass® Newsletter

Edition 6 - March 2013

Risk Type Compass® News Wishing everyone a warm welcome to the first edition of our 2013 Risk Type Compass® newsletter! We had an amazing 2012, presenting our research on human factor risk around the world, and have also learnt a great deal from our interaction with specialists across the risk, compliance/auditing, finance and project management sectors. 2013 is already jam-packed with presentations and seminars as well as research opportunities with UCL, the London Academy of Trading and a high profile global financial sector company. Watch this space for new research articles and case studies and don’t forget to visit our Risk Type Compass® LinkedIn group to keep up to date. Exciting news also for our Managing Director, Geoff Trickey, who has been confirmed to present at the APB conference this year – he will be presenting a workshop entitled ‘The Nature of Resilience: Understanding the links between personality, resilience, risk and much more”, on the 25th April. The focus will be on Risk Type and its relationship to resilience and capacity to cope. Visit the ABP website for more information and to book your place!

Risk Type Compass® Applications PCL are proud to be working in partnership with the Institute of Risk Management (IRM) - the world’s leading enterprise-risk education institute. We are running a selection of training workshops that will focus on human factor risk – the fundamental component to any successful risk strategy. With recently published papers, including the IRM’s ‘Risk Culture’ piece, the importance of considering and managing ‘human factors’ is increasingly recognised as an essential part of the risk management agenda. As a consequence of this trend, some risk managers being urged to address human factor risk may lack the specific training or experience that would give them the confidence needed to be effective in this area. Working with the IRM, we have developed unique training programmes to help tackle this gap. Designed for risk specialists, project managers, health and safety, governance and regulatory specialists and compliance and auditing advisers, they offer guidance in addressing these ‘human factors’ in a practical work environment.

Extreme Risk Type Cameos We learn a huge amount from clients and the individuals we meet on our qualification workshops. Sharing their stories has helped us better understand and appreciate the intricacies of what defines their individual Risk Type. The cameo below is of one of the people we have met on our journey. Maybe you can relate to what they are saying? Mr. Deliberate: talks about his obsession with planning; trying to escape being forever ‘on edge’ about the possibility something might go wrong. “For me, booking family holidays is the beginning of a tortuous process of preparation, planning and then more preparation – a futile commitment to the elimination of all uncertainty. It’s all about timetables, route and transport options, postcodes, locations and back-up plans. My relaxed, easy-going wife couldn’t be more different in her approach and my OTT preparations drive her insane, as I progressively eliminate the opportunities for spontaneity, flexibility and the unexpected that she relishes. My need for research and clarifying all options leaves me exhausted and, by the end of it all, we’re both struggling to maintain enthusiasm and motivation for the trip.” If you have any questions or enquiries regarding the Risk Type Compass® please get in touch.
