Validation Health Check
the issue
Haemonetics, a global company engaged in the design, manufacture and worldwide marketing of automated blood processing systems, became aware of performance and retention issues with their assembly staff. They commissioned a Validation Health Check to try to pinpoint the problem areas.
the solution
Haemonetics, Evergreen Personnel Limited and PCL collaborated on the project. Performance and personality data was obtained from a sample of 61 existing Haemonetics assemblers employed at its Bothwell plant in Scotland. The link between personality, as measured by the Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI), staff performance and length of service was evaluated. Analysis revealed that certain aspects of personality correlated strongly with the performance data, identified specifically as ‘occupational commitment’ and ‘performance’. The analysis meant that potential employees could complete the HPI and Haemonetics would receive a tailored report indicating how well future candidates matched against their job specific scales.
the results
As a result of the project Haemonetics are better able to select from prospective employees those who are more dependable, have better attitudes and teamwork skills and have more job knowledge. The project received an accolade for its operational excellence and was awarded the Haemonetics Team Excellence Award of Merit.
