Human Skeletal Remains found in Ona By Justin Waybright justin@thecabellstandard.com

ONA - The scene last week was something out of a horror movie, as local authorities investigated skeletal remains found in the woods. A resident called the Cabell County Sheriff ’s Department Sunday afternoon, October 21st, when he stumbled upon a skull resting on a tree-covered hillside near the 3500 block of Wire Branch Road. Deputies, FBI agents and members of the local coroner’s office rushed to the scene. Cabell County Sheriff ’s Lt. S.W. Minor said deputies were not sure how long the remains had been there. He said the remains were about 90 percent decomposed when law

tioned by anyone,” the Lt. from Ona’s field office said. “We have talked to people in

the neighborhood. But nobody has come forward with info to what has transpired.” It’s a waiting game as deputies continue to expand their search area for clues to explain the cause of death and the identity of the deceased. Crews have increased their search area to more than 40 acres of leaf-covered land. “The terrain and environment is tough,” Minor said. “The leaves make it a challenge.” Following the initial discovery, law enforcement officials used leaf blowers to aid in uncovering clues at the scene. Deputies did find evidence, but were reluctant to comment this early in their investigation. The question of foul play reSEE SKELETON ON PAGE 9
