Standard, Chamber team up on 2012Voter’s Guide The Putnam Standard and The Putnam County Chamber of Commerce have partnered to produce a 2012 voters guide for the upcoming May 8 Primary Election. Candidates in all contested countywide races in the May primaries were sent questions asking about their qualifications for office and what they will do to bring additional jobs and economic development to Putnam County. In addition, all State Senate and House of Delegates were contacted. Most candidates responded by the deadline and their responses can be found inside this edition of The Putnam Standard beginning on Page 6. Early voting in Putnam County begins on Wednesday, April 25, and continues through Saturday, May 5, on the second floor of the courthouse in Winfield. Complete early voting times and dates can be found online at www.putnamelections.com. The Primary Election will take place on Tuesday, May 8, with voting from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

WINFIELD – There will be a countywide prescription drug take back event on Saturday, April 28, Circuit Court Judge Phillip Stowers and area law enforcement officers announced. The prescription drug take back event will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Unused and unwanted prescription medications can be dropped off that day at the Buffalo Police Department, the Eleanor Police Department, the Hurricane Police Department, the Poca Police Department, the Putnam County Sheriff's Department and the Winfield State Police Detachment. It's likely that the last time there were this many horses in a Buffalo parade, automobiles hadn't been invented yet to pull the floats. The sound of horseshoes clicking on concrete filled the air as there were over 100 horses and mules present at the Buffalo All-Horse Parade April 14th - not counting those in teams pulling the 20 wagons. community, said Melody Matthews, event organizer. “We wanted to commemorate our special anniversary and it was suggested we go back in time to what a parade would have been like at that time,” she said. People lined the streets to get a glimpse of the unique parade. Among them was Karen Condron of Hurricane, who brought her three-year-old grandsonAndy to watch the horses, mules and wagon teams file past. “This is certainly the first one (all horse parade) I've been to. Andy really loves it. He likes the black horses the

best,” she said. Matthews said there are no plans, at least at the moment, to hold another. “People have really enjoyed it and they may want to see it again, but we can't say if we'll ever have one again. This was to celebrate a milestone for our community,” she said. Town Recorder Lori DeWeese, whose eight-year-old daughter Bailey rode a pony in the parade, said the event was a welcome draw for equestrian enthusiasts. “All horses can come, regardless if they are afraid of sirens or not.
