WV Students can now apply for Scholarships HUNTINGTON - West Virginia students are being sought to apply for scholarships through the Mike Lakin Memorial Scholarship Fund. The purpose of the scholarship is to promote aviation and service in young West Virginians. Lt. Col. Mike Lakin was a native West Virginian who started flying at 16 and earned his private pilot's license a year later. He went on to get his commercial pilot's license at 18 and graduated with a degree in aeronautical studies. Lakin went on to fly helicopters for the U.S. Marines in the Middle East and was an instructor at the Naval Air Station in Florida. He left active duty in 1999 and joined the West Virginia Air National Guard. He became a C-130 Hercules Pilot. He also entertained many at air shows across the region. Lakin died Dec. 22, 2011, from injuries sustained after his aerobatic plane crashed near STUDENTS ON PAGE 8

Tom Susman elected Chair of West Virginia State University Board of Governors INSTITUTE, WV - Charleston area business leader Tom Susman has been elected chair of the West Virginia State University ( WVSU) Board of Governors for Fiscal Year 2014, which began on July 1, 2013 and continues through June 30, 2014. Susman, the managing member of TSG Consulting, previously served as the secretary of the Board of Governors. He succeeds Charleston attorney Larry L. Rowe who served as chair of the Board for the previous two years.
