`Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it.’ – Proverbs 22:6.
Have you seen this photo? (From ‘Good Thursday Morning Devotions’oftheFirstPresbyterian Church of South Charleston). A church had an outdoor crèche. Baby Jesus in a wood crib of hay. Baby propped up so you can see His face. Baby is wearing a white dress. Poinsettias surround the crib. One night it was cold. A homeless, stray dog stopped by. He got into the crib with Jesus. He curled up, snuggled up with Jesus. The good sized dog filled much of the box. The dog fell asleep. On the lap of Jesus. A stunning photograph was taken of the scene. At first glance it looks like Jesus is holding him. The eyes of Jesus are open. as if He is watching out for him. The dog is peaceful, relaxed, worry free. The dog is home. At least for one night. And, one more thing, the dog was a Shepherd Dog. Hmmm, maybe we can relate to this picture. So also when we put ourselves in the hands of Jesus. We sleep like a baby. Or a homeless dog who has found a warm bed of hay. And Jesus watches over us. All night long. 2000 years ago, the world was broken. Fearful, worried, angry, greedy, selfish persons. Then God sent Jesus. That night the angel proclaimed, Do not be afraid. Peace is possible for those who will receive Him. Not that the world has changed much since His arrival. But we have. We have changed. We have peace. Snuggle up with Jesus. www.1stpresbyscwv.com
