Arts and Crafts Fair draws Crowds to School By Justin Waybright justin@theputnamstandard.com
TEAYS VALLEY - Hundreds of people poured into the West Teays Elementary School during the 12th Annual Arts and Crafts Fair, Dec. 1. Unique items covered the tables of more than 80 vendors from across the Tri-state. The handmade décor and night lights on Doug and Ruth Kemp’s table attracted the eyes of many shoppers. The husband and wife team run R&D Collectibles, a business out of Scott Depot. “Our motto is don’t burn it, turn it,” said Kemp. “I make them and Ruth gives them personality.” The couple takes wood from fallen trees and works it on a wood lathe into one-of-a-kind gifts. Doug shapes the wood and Ruth paints it. “We make a pretty good team,”

The Kemps can be contacted at (304) 757-2716. Across from R&D’s booth, a man sat, wearing a hat that had “Game Man” stitched on it. Many boys and girls stopped at his table to attempt to solve the peculiar puzzles on Jerry Lee’s
table. “Most of the puzzles I offer have five-to-seven-step solutions,” the retired carpenter said. “It’s great seeing all the people you meet at shows, trying to solve them.” Jerry Lee “The Game Man” can be contacted at (304) 722-0574.
The funds received from this annual fair go toward upgrades and improvements at the school. Parent Volunteer Jessika Fisher seemed pleased with Saturday’s success. Fisher said the community looks forward to this event. “This is a really great day for people to get out and shop, and help raise money for the school,” she said. PTO President Kim Neville agreed. “This event helps put money back into the school to help with improvements it wouldn’t receive otherwise,” Neville said. “Today’s fair looks really successful, and the parking lot is packed.” The PTO wishes to thank all the sponsors for the help they provided in this event. The school and PTO are raffling off 11 baskets, full of holiday goodies. Tickets can be purchased until Wednesday, Dec. 19, during school hours.
