Putnam County Grand Jury hands down Indictments Putnam County Prosecuting Attorney, Mark A. Sorsaia, reports that thirty-five indictments were returned on July 10th by the July 2013 Term Putnam County Grand Jury alleging forty-eight persons committed one hundred seventy-six felonies and twenty-seven misdemeanors. Permit Applications Available for Special Deer Hunt from National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, WV GREEN BANK, WV - The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) in Green Bank, WV has announced that applications are now available and are being accepted for the special resident-only controlled deer hunt at the NRAO site.This controlledhuntisorganizedandplanned in cooperation with the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR). Submitting an application enters the hunter in a drawing for a maximumoftwo(2)daysontheNRAOsite. Applications for the drawing must be receivedbyNRAOonorbeforeAugust 2, 2013. Successful applicants will be notified by mail and issued a special NRAO letter of authorization to deer hunt. Only hunters who have made

application and have received a letter for a particular day or days can hunt. “Walk-ons” will not be permitted to hunt. The controlled hunts, held for two days, October 18 and 19, 2013, under the auspices of theWVDNR, will take placeonfourdelineatedareasranging in size from 132 acres to 1,000 acres. Each area is designated: BOW ONLY; or MUZZLELOADER & SHOTGUN WITH SLUGS; or MUZZLELOADER ONLY.Ontheapplicationform,applicants must choose a bow or the type of firearm they wish to use. Themaximumbaglimitduringthe NRAOhuntistwoantlerlessdeer(one per day), except that an on-site lottery willbeheldeachdayofthehuntwhich will allow five hunters to hunt an ei-

ther-sex deer. These are BONUS deer and do not count toward the hunters annual licensed deer bag limit. However, participating hunters must possessanappropriatebaseWestVirginia huntinglicense(A,AH,AHJ,X,XJ,Lifetime) or be exempt from having to purchase a license. All deer harvested must be checked at the official game checkingstationlocatedontheNRAO site. Duetothenatureoftheworkatthe Observatory, gasoline-powered vehicles are strictly controlled on the site. Hunters may park only in designated parking areas, and all vehicles will be issueda“pass”fordisplayonthewindshield. Transportation from hunter check-in to some hunt areas is provided by the NRAO. For purposes of

safety and biological study of harvested deer, all hunters must pass through the check-in station each morning before the day’s hunt. At the endoftheday’shunt,allhuntersmust exit through the check-out station. Applications may be picked up at any WVDNR district office or may be requestedbysendingaself-addressed, stamped envelope to the National Radio Astronomy Observatory at P.O. Box 2, Green Bank,WV, 24944, Attention: Hunt Coordinator. Applications arealsoavailablethroughemailbyrequesting to dwirt@nrao.edu.
