PSC Grants Petition to WV DOH to Implement 511 Dialing Code The Public Service Commission of West Virginia recently issued an Order granting a petition by the West Virginia Department of Transportation, Division of Highways (WVDOH) to implement the 511 dialing code for the purpose of improving communication relating to traffic and transportation conditions. The 511 system is intended to assist motorists in West Virginia and enhance public safety by providing information about accidents or adverse travel conditions. The Commission formed a Task Force to investigate the proposal from WV-DOH. After a series of meetings, the Task Force recommended the Commission approve the assignment of the 511 dialing code to WV-DOH. In today’s Order, the Commission accepted the recommendation from the Task Force and noted that all wireline carriers currently providing retail telecommunications SEE DOH ON PAGE 4

We thought maybe some of our online viewers might not have gotten ‘out and about’ during the snowstorm that hit late Monday into Tuesday (October 29th-30th). So, we decided to show you what some of us here at the Putnam/Cabell Standard saw during our outdoor adventures. Most of the photos were taken between Milton, Hurricane, and Teays Valley. Thousands in West Virginia were without electricity - as what has been dubbed “SuperStorm Sandy” – was felt throughout West Virginia. See more pictures on page 8.
