OUR FAMILY

a panel on grief

rief is something that clutches everyone and puts its bony finger on us at one time or another. While it looks different from person to person, it is still grief and it is still dreadful. As believers, we serve the God of hope who is no stranger to grief and what it means to suffer. Praise Him from whom all blessings flow for the gift of His ultimate sustainment. On September 25, PCPC Women gathered for The Bridge: A Panel on Grief. It was an evening designated to understand how the Lord sustains His beloved through the stories of grief from Nancy Brown, Debbie Malloy, Carroll Turpin, and Priscilla Horn Underwood, as well as learning to walk alongside those in our midst who grieve. While we listened to their stories, we were reminded that we are never alone in our difficulties and celebrations of life, knowing that God’s family is right there with each of us. Practically, we heard that listening to those who are grieving and NOT trying to fix the situation or say the perfect thing is more important than we may realize. We also heard that showing up in the midst of our own fear and insecurity is a comfort, as well as thinking of those around us before we speak.

10/19/18 12:05 PM

We are a people who have been given the ultimate gift in Jesus Christ, who is good and merciful. He doesn’t promise us a life of ease and comfort, but He does promise us a life with Him when we believe Jesus is the “Bread of Life”. What a gift it is to love those around us when they have nothing left to give! Let us be like Aaron and Hur as they held

up the arms of Moses during the battle of Israel and Amalek. In the book of Exodus, The Lord asks Moses to hold his staff into the air so that Israel would prevail over Amalek. When he got too tired to hold them up any longer, his two friends joined him to help hold his arms in the air so that they could obey what the Lord had asked of them. As God’s children, we are called to give Him all glory, honor, and praise. During the seasons when you can’t seem to muster the strength to do those things, He understands why and extends patience and peace to you. I encourage you to confess when you are weary and ask the Lord for help. He can provide help in so many ways and so often that help is seen in those around us. May we be a body who encourages each other to press into the Lord and listens to His direction as well as those around us. We are so thankful for the women who shared that evening and encourage you to reach out if you’d like to process your grief. You can always email kari.stainback@ pcpc.org as a first step. We are so excited about the next Bridge on Tuesday, November 13 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at 3549 Colgate Avenue where will hear from Ashley Ferguson. She will share how the Lord delivered her from the despair of Satan’s stronghold to the delight of our Father’s freedom. Please join us and bring a friend! There's no RSVP and dinner will be provided for $5.

"Our main problem is not lack of time or resources or the annoying people in our lives. Your main problem and my main problem is that we do not see enough the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." — Kevin DeYoung
