In fact, in 2019, Texas has the fourth most racially diverse population in our entire country, behind only Hawaii, California, and Nevada. Truly, the Lord has brought the world to our door. Come hear partner ministries open God's Word to explore our calling to "tell the nations" when the nations are our neighbors. What is General Assembly?

I’ve been asked that question a lot, lately, and have come to answer it from the perspective of personal experience. As a child, I grew up going to General Assembly with my parents. My dad, Rodney Stortz, was a PCA pastor for over twenty years, and helped me see General Assembly as a family reunion where I met relatives I never knew before. By participating in the various children’s and youth activities, I not only got to do some fun things (I distinctly remember riding a camel one year), but I got to meet other kids whose parents were also involved in ministry. There was something special about coming together and making friends with families whose lives were so similar to my own. Many years later, I began bringing my own kids to General Assembly. My husband, Matt Fray, has been a PCA pastor for ten years, and KDV KHOSHG PH VHH *HQHUDO $VVHPEO\ DV D FKXUFK FRXUW 7KDW GH¿QLWHO\ VRXQGV EODQG DW ¿UVW EXW DIWHU VLWWLQJ LQ VRPH RI WKH EXVLQHVV meetings (including the 2016 debate regarding whether to form a committee to study the roles of women in ministry), I learned to DSSUHFLDWH KRZ WKH ZRUN RI WKH *HQHUDO $VVHPEO\ FDQ EH ERWK LQWHUHVWLQJ DQG VLJQL¿FDQW $QG , ORYH KRZ HDFK GD\ RI EXVLQHVV LQFOXGHV extended time for everyone gathered to pray, sing, and receive God’s Word together in worship.

I hope you will make plans to come to this year’s General Assembly. If you have children, bring them! And even if you are not a voting Commissioner, be sure to sit in on some of the business! And if you would like to use the gifts God has given you to serve, our Host Committee would greatly appreciate your help. And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. Acts 2:42-47 —Erin Fray

Now, I am serving on the Host Committee that is planning this year’s General Assembly in Dallas. I’ve gotten to peek behind the curtain just a bit, and it’s helped me see General Assembly as a strategic way to serve our church. For the host Presbytery, an incredible amount of time, energy, and prayer goes into making the idea of General Assembly a reality. It’s a joy to serve in the body of Christ, and I’ve gotten to know many folks from our Presbytery who I probably wouldn’t have known otherwise. And I’m excited to meet and serve women from many other Presbyteries at this year’s Women’s Luncheon with my childhood friend, Sandra McCracken (yes, that is a shameless plug – register for the Women’s Luncheon today!).
