How Should We Serve?

BAPTISMS

August 18, 2019

Even when we have felt overwhelmed within our own home, we have felt called to serve on Sundays. From their earliest ages, we wanted our children to see that the Lord is responsible for covering our weaknesses and being our strength. He would give us His abilities for our disabilities. We have had to make sacrifices, but we continue to learn the blessing coming from sacrifice is the joy we feel when we pay the price. On many Sundays, we have found ourselves in a packed car on the way to PCPC, praying for energy, wisdom, and patience to teach with excellence. He has always provided for us, sometimes through an idea for a new game, skit, or lesson example and sometimes just through a stop at Starbucks.

Serving on Sundays has now become a part of our family routine. Our three older kids help with the planning, music selection, room setup, and Cherub Church execution. We even find our 4-year-old daughter, Eliza, setting up her dolls (or younger brother) to teach them a Cherub Church lesson a few times a week.

• Laughing at the hilarious exploits of our fellow leaders (William Litton as Billy the Bible Shark is genius)

• Chris & Anna Stowell (CC#19) on the loss of his father; Scott Stowell (CC#19) on the loss of his grandfather, Russell D. “Russ” Stowell, on August 16, 2019. • Phil & Lisa Barnett (CC#15) on the loss of his mother, Martha "Pat" Barnett, on August 24, 2019.

When our children were very young, we served monthly in the Nursery. We then followed our kids up to Preschool and Kindergarten classes. For the past few years, we’ve had the pleasure of leading Cherub Church (Preschool). Next year, we will move up again with our older two to be part of the weekly team in Bible Explorers (1st-4th grade).

• Connecting with an older generation of incredible PCPC servants who have paved the way for all of us

— Heath & Scott Beasley

We joined Park Cities Presbyterian Church in 2011 with a 1-year-old and one on the way. Now we have four children, ages 9, 7, 4, and 2. Knowing how great the needs are in the Nursery, Preschool, and Elementary programs at our church, each year, we have asked, “where should we serve?” And each year the Lord has shown us where He would have us. We have loved watching the Lord use our gifts for the building of the Body while also refining us personally. He has asked a little more of us, but He has also been faithful to equip and encourage us.

• Showing our kids that we make serving in the church a priority Psalm 126:3 says, “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.” He has done great things in and through our family through our service on Sunday mornings here in the Children’s Ministry at PCPC. There are plenty of opportunities to find a role to fit your talents: playing music, holding babies, dressing up in costumes, strolling children around the halls, and engaging with a group of elementary students.
