BAPTISMS
Did you know that Texas consistently ranks in the bottom 10 on the state trends in child well-being scale? This scale is determined by measuring health, education, and family and community factors.

OUR FAMILY
births • Bradley Ann Malloy, daughter of George & Lindsey Malloy (CC#22) on January 9, 2020.
Part of the City Missions vision is to bring a new level of awareness to issues faced in the City of Dallas. However, we realize PCPC cannot address every area of need, so we decided to begin where our members are already actively working. For years, PCPC has consistently sought to address the issue of life. We have partnered with Thrive Women’s Clinic for over two decades and many of our members are involved in organizations like Council for Life and BraveLove, serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for children, and have given children a “forever home.”
sympathies • Catherine Akridge (CC#22) on the loss of her mother, LaVada Mary Akridge, on January 7, 2020.
Building upon this long-term commitment to fighting for life, City Missions created a strategic workgroup to discuss the ways in which PCPC is uniquely called to address this issue. The conversation was broadened to not only include the unborn, but also foster care, adoption, and caring for young moms. During 2020, their focus will remain specifically on foster care.

Some sobering statistics about foster care in Texas:
• J.C. & Amy Derrick (CC#06) on the loss of her father; Rowan & Eli Derrick (CC#06) on the loss of their grandfather, Frederick “Mike” Bell, on January 12, 2020. • Tom & Carla Gale (CC#12) on the loss of her father; Grayson & Burton Gale (CC#12) on the loss of their grandfather, Buddy Burton, on January 12, 2020. • Sonny & Susy Denn (CC#20) on the loss of her mother, Jeanie Rogers, on January 18, 2020.
• In 2017, more than 690,000 children spent time in U.S. foster care. • In 2017, more than 17,000 youth aged out of foster care without permanent families, leaving them susceptible to homelessness, unemployment, and incarceration. • The average reading level of 17-18 year-olds in foster care is 7th grade. • Data for the month of May 2019 reported 3,773 children in the foster care system in North Texas, 1,475 of whom were in Dallas County. • Data forecasts that 2,232 children in Dallas will need a foster home.
Care Clusters – pcpc.org/care/care-clusters/
(statistics sourced from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Texas Department of Family & Protective Services.)
How do children end up in foster care? Contributing factors include, but are not limited to, poverty, chronic unemployment or homelessness, lack of education, various forms of abuse, and multi-generational dysfunction, including parents who were in foster care as a child.
GENERAL FUND
budget
Given this information, what can PCPC do? Some families will be called to receive children into their home. Others can provide respite care or babysitting, donate supplies for families who receive emergency placements, be a mentor, support a specific foster family’s needs, or serve as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA). The American church often acts as if missional and sacrificial living can only be carried out on the overseas mission field. But what if we took seriously the call to be missionaries in our own homes? To be faithful stewards of the Gospel and love these young image-bearers? Please pray about how the Lord might be calling you, and PCPC as a whole, to care for these children in our city. You can learn more at the Foster Care Orientation and training on February 29. — Jenna Tenpenny jenna.tenpenny@pcpc.org 214-224-2501
