EVERYONE FEAR & WORRY PART 2

Do fear and worry prevent you from enjoying the rest that God has promised? Our Part 2 Virtual Summit is a great follow up from when Dr. Ed Welch was here in October. Learn more about how to live the life God has called us to live and to which He has so graciously provided for us with a panel discussion hosted by the PCPC Counseling and Care Ministry. The panel will be available online afterward for viewing and sharing with others! (pcpc.org.events) pat.hobin@pcpc.org We are continuing to assess the safety of our worshippers on a week to week basis. We are still REQUIRING all attendees to wear masks or cloth face coverings over the nose and mouth while in the church building. If you are uncomfortable with this, we understand and ask that you attend worship online. To help ensure we hold our worship services safely, we ask that you reserve a seat for you and your family online at pcpc.org/reserve-seat. If you or anyone in your party have had any of the following in the past 7 days, we ask that you please worship online with us at pcpc.org/live. • Fever Over 100 • Cough or Sore Throat • Shortness of Breath • Contact with anyone confirmed to have COVID-19 (in the past 14 days) There is no rush to return. Our desire is to lead the Body in worship of our Lord and Savior whether in person or online. So, we will continue to live stream our services at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. for any and all who would prefer to worship online at pcpc.org/live.

SUNDAY WORSHIP

After his martyrdom at the hands of the Gestapo in 1945, Dietrich Bonhoeffer continued his witness in the hearts of Christians around the world. In his book Life Together, we learn of Pastor Bonhoeffer's experience within Christian community. This story of a unique fellowship reads like one of Paul's letters. It gives practical advice on how life together in Christ can be sustained in families and groups.

Staff Highlight Wondering what our church family is doing this fall? Between COVID-19 and the EXTEND construction, it became apparent that we needed to offer something unique to help us connect with Christ and each other. So together, we are going to focus on the person of Jesus! We are looking forward to our fall sermon series, “Astonished” which kicks off Sunday, September 13. This series will look at the life of Jesus as recorded in the Gospel of Mark. Our services will continue to be offered online and in-person at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. We’re excited to announce that our adult Bible studies this fall will join forces to complement the sermon series with a study entitled, “Signs & Wonders: Finding Hope in the Miracles of Jesus.” It too will look at the life of Jesus but as recorded in Matthew, Luke, & John’s Gospel accounts. There will be one Women’s study led by our Women’s Ministry teaching team and one Men’s study led by our Men’s Ministry teaching team. These studies will follow the same passage each week and will be live streamed and available on-demand. There will be a study guide for small groups to use (meeting virtually and off campus, as appropriate). This study will be free; however, we do ask that you register by late August before the mid-September kick off. What about PCPC Kids and Youth? Yes, you guessed it. They will be participating too! We will have more information in the weeks to come. Please follow our social channels and keep an eye on pcpc.org/events for more!

Will, what's your position and how long have you been on staff? I've been Ministry Leader to Middle School for a little over 3 years. How do you connect with others at PCPC? The biggest thing I try to do is, at the beginning of each week, I make sure I prioritize getting intentional time with trusted friends and mentors who know me well, are fun to be with, point me to Jesus and His love, are filled with the wisdom of Scripture, and allow me the privilege of doing the same for them. I like the “Paul/ Barnabas/Timothy” principle of connection among believers that you see in the book of Acts, where we are wise to have mentors (“Paul”), friends who know us deeply and with whom we can practice the “one-another’s” of the New Testament (“Barnabas”), and people who we are discipling (“Timothy”). I try to prioritize consistent time with people in each of those three categories. Story of Rescue? God saved me when I was 7 years old in the context of my family and church. I’m so thankful that He grabbed a hold of me from a young age. Both my initial faith and my continued discipleship are the result of God using His people in my life to point me to Jesus, so I’m incredibly grateful for my parents and church leaders who shared with me the Gospel and their lives (1 Thessalonians 2:8). In this current season, as a recovering addict to performance, approval, and control, I’m continuing to learn, as Eugene Peterson said, that discipleship is a process of paying more and more attention to God’s righteousness and goodness and less attention to my own. I’m learning more about what it looks like to live in the freedom of letting Jesus’ “it is finished” out-volume the world’s (and my own) “make it happen.”

My favorite chapters in the Bible are Psalm 37 and Romans 8.

Where have you been able to extend Christ to others? I try to always have people I’m regularly meeting with and discipling whatever season I’m in. I don’t want that to depend on having a certain job in ministry, so I would want to live that way even if I didn’t work for a church. I want some of them to be believers and some to be non-believers. I try to go deeper with about 12 people a year. I stole that idea from someone else (Jesus). How do you abide in Christ? The most important rhythm of my abiding relationship with Christ is my time with Him every morning. It didn’t start this way when I began this habit in college, but it has become both my favorite and the most important part of my day. It can change a little from season to season, but I generally start by praying to God as my loving Father who is present with me, read a few minutes from a devotional book, and then work my way through books of the Bible by reading a little each day and journaling some key takeaways. I feel like when that time is protected and cherished, it creates a foundation for abiding throughout the day as well. Favorites?
