Officer Recommendations in May O
fficer recommendations for elder and deacon candidates for the class of 2016 may be submitted May 1–31. As you prayerfully consider your recommendations, please reflect on 1 Timothy 3:1–13, Titus 1:5–9, and 1 Peter 5:1–4 as the biblical basis for qualifications. Men who are chosen must meet the qualifications as summarized from the Book of Church Order:
Qualifications of an Elder (BCO 8-2, 3): He that fills this office should possess a competency of human learning and be blameless in life, sound in the faith and apt to teach. He should exhibit a sobriety and holiness of life becoming the Gospel. He should rule his own house well and should have a good report of them that are outside the church. (The elder is) to watch diligently over the flock, that no corruption of doctrine or of morals enter therein. Qualifications of a Deacon (9-2, 3): It is the duty of deacons to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress. To the office of deacon, which is spiritual in nature, shall be chosen men of spiritual character, honest repute, exemplary lives, brotherly spirit, warm sympathies, and sound judgment. A screening committee composed of elders, deacons, and laity will interview the men recommended and consider their qualifications before submitting a list of potential officer candidates to the Session for approval to stand for election in 2012 after a year of training on the Westminster Confession of Faith, the Bible, the Book of Church Order, and officer specific books. The Session has called a congregational meeting for Sunday, June 5 at 10:40 am (between services) in the Sanctuary for the purpose of electing deacons and elders for the class of 2015.

Beyond the Rapids by Evelyn Puerto
Beyond the Rapids by Evelyn Puerto is the true story of a Ukrainian pastor and his family's steadfastness during a time of great religious persecution in a communist culture. Pastor Brynza suffered himself and watched his children's struggle with acceptance and ostracism and finally choose to be faithful to their God. Their son-in-law is Igor Yaremchuk who, with his wife Lena, is supported by our church. Beyond the Rapids is an encouraging story of faith in the face of hardship.
