Leaving The Cross in other hands, Chad and Jada headed for St. Louis and Covenant Seminary in 2004. Jada worked as an event planner during Chad’s two-plus years of study. His favorite course during those years was a class on Jonathan Edwards. After receiving his M.Div in 2007, and with Jada expecting their first child, they moved to Dallas and began RUF ministry at SMU. John Randall was born in April of that year, and Charlie and Carter followed in 2009 and 2010 respectively. Another exciting birth is expected any day, a GIRL to be named Hallie.

ur newest pastor at PCPC, Chad Scruggs, was introduced to the congregation during worship services on Sunday, June 9. He is already well known to many of us, having served as the RUF minister at SMU since 2007.

Chad grew up in Hendersonville, TN, with a younger sister, half-sister, half-brother, and then an adopted halfbrother from Haiti! His parents divorced when he was five but lived within walking distance, which facilitated their shared custody of him and his sister. Being a good student and sports took most of his time in high school, particularly basketball and tennis. (He still loves both!) He went to University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a premed degree in mind and joined Phi Gamma Delta, but then graduated in the College Scholars program, a self-directed humanities major. Chad was raised by faithful Catholic parents and doesn’t remember ever not knowing Jesus Christ, but in high school, as he became active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and began reading the Bible, he began to truly understand his position as a follower of Christ. By college, he heard a call to campus ministry and became active in the Greek system, eventually becoming the first Interfraternity Council chaplain at Tennessee. During his sophomore year he started

Chad says that his responsibilities at PCPC will, in some ways, be similar to those that Patrick Lafferty

“I have always been encouraged by Chad’s thoughtful pursuit of applying the Gospel to all of His life. He is a humble man with wonderful gifts of preaching and leadership that lead people to a deeper longing for Christ Jesus. The Lord used Chad mightily on the campus of SMU, and I believe he will be a great blessing to the body of PCPC.” —Mark Davis

a ministry to Greeks called The Cross, which still exists. And he began to be mentored by the RUF campus minister, John Stone, and a PCA pastor, Jim Barnes. The ministry flourished, and Chad stayed in Knoxville for another two years after graduation in 2001 to lead it. But not alone. During his freshman year he met a “stuck-up” girl named Jada, who Chad says confirms the stuck-up part by not even remembering they met that year. But somehow by their junior year, she was ready not only to remember him, but date and eventually marry him in 2002!

had, but there will also be other areas of ministry he will serve and develop. Stayed tuned for an interview with Chad in the August issue of PCPC WITNESS and for the summer date when he will be installed in our Sunday worship services. Welcome to PCPC, Chad, Jada, John Randall, Charlie, Carter, and Hallie!
