WIDER CREATES A NEW CATEGORY OF YACHT: THE WIDER COCKPIT

Wider Yachts conceives a unique concept, a brand with strong design ideas, to enjoy with equal amounts of adrenaline and recreation, a floating water park but, most importantly, a versatile yacht able to change and adapt to satisfy a wide range of demands, through solutions offering total comfort and pure relaxation.

The very first model of the Wider fleet is a 42 foot open day-cruiser, developed from Tilli Antonelli’s ideas and whose lines are characterised by Fulvio De Simoni. A smaller model, measuring around 35 feet and a larger one measuring around 50 feet, are to follow.

Revolutionised space, outstanding stability, respect for the environment and comfort onboard

01

WIDER IS: TWICE THE SURFACE AREA

SPACE AND STABILITY When opened out, the central cockpit of Wider 42’ features a flat, usable surface area of over 18 m2 - the equivalent of the cockpit of a megayacht and a floatation width of 6.6 m. Besides creating additional space aboard, this feature also guarantees excellent stability and comfort as the mobile extensions of the hull are lowered into the water.

CONVENIENT AND EASY TO USE The mobile extensions are opened and/or closed by means of an automatic, electronically controlled system, meaning both the single and contemporary open and closing operations of the mobile extensions takes just 12 seconds.

RELIABILITY The system for opening/closing the mobile extensions has been produced entirely in pre-preg carbon. Besides creating sturdy but lightweight mechanisms, this choice also prevents possible oxidation, ensuring effectiveness throughout the product’s lifecycle.

SAFETY The project has been devised in such a way that the bearing structure of the mechanism rests on the deck. This means that there is no connection between the interior and exterior of the yacht when the stabilizers shift. This solution guarantees Wider 42’ is completely safe in all her possible layouts: closed cockpit, open on one side only, open on both sides.

02

Wider’s first model incorporates the Wider cockpit concept, creating the promise of space and stability as never seen before. To solve the problem of a shortage of space onboard, the Wider 42’ yacht features a solution which is as simple as it is clever. She widens out by means of extensions either side of the hull.

Wider has thus managed to double the usable surface and significantly increase the yacht’s stability. This invention, patented by Tilli Antonelli, has made it possible to create a surface area of over 18 m2 cockpit and 6,6 m floatation width - which was unthinkable on a 42 footer.

WIDER IS: HIGH PERFORMANCE AT A LOW RATE OF CONSUMPTION ENERGY SAVING One of the distinctive marks of Wider 42’ is the layout of the double stepped hull. This feature raises the yacht slightly to maintain a highly dynamic sailing trim by creating an air cushion between the surface of the sea and the hull. Stepped hulls are normally used for racing yachts and are still rather unusual in the pleasure boating sector, requiring millimetric precision as regards shape both during design and construction. This mix of aerodynamics and the study of shape also leads to a considerable reduction in consumption.

LIGHTWEIGHT The vacuum-infusion moulding (Scrimp System) with 70% hybrid carbon textile make the leading feature of Wider 42’ the fact she is extremely lightweight, guaranteeing maximum efficiency and minimum waste. Moreover, many parts, such as the usable walking area of the bridge, the T-top, the central stairway and the seats are produced in carbon by means of the pre-preg autoclave technique. The excellent weight/power ratio of Wider 42’ means the yacht can reach a top speed of 53 knots and a cruise speed of 40 knots with just 110 l/h consumption for the two engines. This results in a range of almost 400 miles at 40 knots, unthinkable for a yacht of this kind until now.

04

Wider epitomises the modern requirement of energy saving, concentrating on the engines, aerodynamic shapes and materials used in the aerospace industry like “pre-preg” carbon, which guarantees huge savings in fuel consumption and a lower environmental impact. The two engines are not installed in the classically symmetrical way, but offset in a racing style, thus guaranteeing better positioning in the centreline with a consequent increase in stability and ease of inspection. A high-performance, lightweight model built according to the very latest vacuum-infusion moulding (Scrimp System) techniques with carbon and vinylester resins, and other components in vacuum “pre-preg” carbon only

produced by leading companies supplying Formula 1 teams and the aerospace industry. The result is an aerodynamic product, where weight is an essential feature, guaranteeing maximum efficiency and minimum waste. Weight saving also means a new way of experiencing the sea, thanks to the shape of the stepped hull. Creating an air cushion between the surface of the sea and the hull, means the yacht planes quickly to maintain a highly dynamic sailing trim. Additionally, unlike normal hulls, this model is more trimmed at the stern especially during planing, guaranteeing the yacht always sails horizontally on the water, improving her performance and guaranteeing constant visibility, too.

WIDER IS: CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY

CAN BUS ELECTRIC SYSTEM The on-board electronics, designed by Naviop and sold by Acson Marine, use a Can Bus electric system. The main feature of this technology is the design versatility and ease of installing the system, making it possible to produce electronic, audio and navigation systems which can be personalised and are compatible with the latest technologies. Can Bus uses high speed connections and a smaller number of parts, thus ensuring the efficiency of the on-board instruments, too.

MULTIFUNCTIONAL STEERING WHEEL The multifunctional steering wheel with in-built multiview display, similar to those used in Formula 1, and featuring all the information necessary for sailing, was developed through the Naviop and Tastitalia partnership. This previously unseen solution makes it possible to integrate many of the on-board controls in a single instrument as well as significantly reducing the number of parts in the helm station.

HELM STATION The helm station equipment comprises a GPSMap® 7012 Garmin chart plotter, equipped with a 12.1 inch touchscreen display, and new G-Motion™ technology which allows for extraordinary fluidity when passing from one screen to another, with imperceptible updates of the different zoom levels and 3D graphics. Another Garmin product is the VHF 300i digital radio, connected to the chart plotter in such a way as to create a highly reliable, last generation navigation system.

“CANDY” CHAIN LOCK SYSTEM At the tip of the bow, the anchor features a system which enables better use of the chain without the risk of it becoming tangled up during sailing. Moreover, a TCC camera is turned towards the anchor system with the relative in-built display in the centre of the multifunctional steering wheel. This makes it possible to operate independently directly from the helm station.

The design of the Wider 42’ hull was entraste to Mark Wilson, one of the top experts in the world of racing yachts, who also designed the hulls with which his son won the World Championships three times, once in class P2 and twice in class P1. In the standard version the Wider 42’ can reach a top speed of over 45 knots with two 370 mhp engines and Arneson surface drives, guaranteeing a range of over 350 nautical miles at a 40 knot cruising speed. A faster version is also available (and considering the orders received, it has proved to be the most popular choice) with two 480 mhp Cummins engines for an incredible top speed of 53 knots and a cruising speed of 46 knots. The energy saving design of this yacht also includes its onboard electronics.

A well-developed, highly technological Can Bus electrical system was produced in conjunction with Acson Marine-Naviop (www.acsonmarine.com) and the extremely lightweight installation, guarantees considerable savings in energy. The partnership with Naviop and Tastitalia leaded to the production of a helm station featuring solutions which have never been seen before, namely a multifunctional steering wheel, similar to those used in Formula 1. The wheel has a fixed, built-in mini instrument panel, with a multi-view display featuring all the information necessary for sailing, and it’s equipped with a basic helm station with a 12,1’, touch screen plotter and a VHF, both Garmin, as all the propulsion equipment is controlled by the built-in display on the steering wheel.

WIDER IS: VERSATILE ENVIRONMENTS, DESIGN, COMFORT AND NEW MATERIALS

BOW The bow is accessed using an ultra-lightweight, central, carbon fibre ladder with foldable handrail, which follows the line of the sliding crystal doors, creating a true design feature and providing access to a large central sunbathing cushion where those aboard can relax.

COCKPIT The furnishings of the cockpit are highly versatile thanks to a set of components which are either mobile or can be transformed. A carbon fibre bench in the center of the cockpit can double up to offer three different solutions: a dinette for lunch (in this case the table rises up from the flooring by means of an electric mechanism), a sun pad (the table rises at the same level of the benches to create a relaxing area with comfortable cushions) or even a double bench version facing forward to enjoy at maximum the cruising emotions.

STERN Alternatively to the open garage with watercraft, the stern can house a garage containing a 2,75 m long rubber dinghy and more storage space for a diving center. In this case an additional sundeck is available, equipped with two extra foldable seats right behind the pilot house.

08

The cockpit furnishings onboard are clearly different to any other boat currently available on the market, and the focus is on its convertibility: the windscreen protecting the seating for example can be raised and concealed in a special retainer inside the T-top. Thanks to a friction chain mechanism, the pilot and co-pilot seats can be folded up and become a comfortable back support for standing whilst driving. They can be easily removed, as if they were car head-rests, and placed in a dedicated storage locker astern.

This simple movement completely opens up the galley furniture fitted with a sink, a large central worktop, a teppan-yaki griddle for healthy cooking with no flame and a 51 lt removable icebox (so iced drinks and cold fruits are always on hand). Furthermore a 50 lt fridge and a single ceramic glass hob are available under request.

Wider 42’: Central Cockpit

The space to the fore of the pilot house is fitted with an electric table lifting from within the floor and a carbon bench, which can be split in two in order to create a luncheon/dining area, a relaxing area with sun pad or a double bench facing forward.

WIDER IS: VERSATILE ENVIRONMENTS, DESIGN, COMFORT AND NEW MATERIALS

LIVING AREA The central section of the area below deck is formed of a C-shape seating which can transform into a double bed if necessary. The upholstery can be personalized by the owner.

WIDER SUITE PACK The yacht has been fitted with leather hang bags, which replace the classical cabinets. Said bags are unique, in that they can be packed at the owner’s home with everything necessary for the cruise, taken to the yacht and hung on the broadside, only to be taken home once the cruise is over. This exclusive feature does away with the need for owners to carry cumbersome suitcases with them.

AUDIO-VIDEO SYSTEM In association with Di Prinzio Top Class, the standard layout of the Wider 42’ features a built-in hi-fi with which guests can listen to music throughout the yacht (helm station and dinette). However, owners can also choose to add the optional “Wider” audio-visual system to their yacht, where the standard supply of the audio is completed with additional amplifiers, speakers and subwoofers reaching a maximum power of 1460 W; and the video comprises a 22’ LCD TV, DVD and BLUE RAY reader and multimedia player.

HEAD

The head features a large separate shower with crystal cubicle, washbasin and carbon toilet and is located to starboard, designed in line with the rest of the essential, modern furnishings of the yacht.

10

The internal furnishings ensure complete comfort during a day at sea: entering the cabin, on the port side we find a kitchenette; equipped with a 160 lt double drawer fridge and freezer with ice maker, a Corian worktop with a stainless steel sink and single ceramic glass hob. At eye level a locker is situated, where an optional microwave oven can be installed. The dinette is furnished with a C-shape sofa, available in a variety of different fabrics, and can be converted into a large, comfortable bed for an overnight stay onboard. A LED flat screen TV is also available.

Another very original design feature onboard are the leather bags that functionally act as substitutes for the more common overhead lockers: can be prepared before going onboard with all the items needed during the cruise. Design meets comfort and spatial rationality.

Wider 42’: Interiors

Special attention has been paid to the choice of the materials. The vertical surfaces inside the cabin display the carbon laminate, whilst the structural bulkheads are clad in a new linen fabric with a polished finish.

11

WIDER IS: A PLAYGROUND AT SEA

WIDER INFLATABLES As Wider is a playground to enjoy at sea, heavy, cumbersome, fixed fibreglass seats have been replaced with inflatable ones. If needed, they can be used in the water as floating mattresses and seats, enabling those aboard to relax, and almost completely removing the limits between the yacht and the sea. Produced in polyurethane and equipped with a small compressor, when they are not being used the seats can be placed in the cavity of the bulwark of the mobile terraces.

WATER TOYS In order to guarantee maximum versatility of use, the owner of Wider 42’ can chose between two different configurations of the stern: in the first case, the Wider 42’ can house a 3,4 m jet ski in an open garage; alternatively, a hangar containing a rubber dinghy 2,75 m long and extra storage for a scuba diving equipment is also available. In this case the aft sun pad is offered on top of the garage. It is possible to order both the equipments as they are interchangeable.

BIMINI TOP A sunshade awning covers the cockpit completely, even when fully open.

12

There are many features that make the Wider 42’ a floating water park at sea: starting with the opening/widening cockpit which offers a dynamic surface area and stability unthinkable before on a 42 footer, continuing with the galley in the cockpit with teppan-yaki griddle and removable ice-box, the multifunctional steering wheel and the stepped hull for a safe ride which leads to strong emotions. Every single detail has been diligently studied to offer a delightful and exciting stay onboard.

“I’ve never liked sitting still. Nor simply standing and watching. Making do doesn’t come naturally, either. Pushing thoughts a little farther, now that is something which does. No blinkers, no exceptions. In short: open-mindedness”.

Wider 42’

This is how Tilli Antonelli tells of the creative élan that inspired Wider, the project which transformed intuition into a tangible set up. If conforming is tantamount to lack of inspiration, originality and courage are the way to affirm your identity. Never enough. True fulfilment is to keep moving your point of arrival.
