JUDGING CLASS

This class was held April 20, 2024 during our ‘Crash Day’

In 2021, recognizing that 4-H Manitoba needed to focus more on judging and oral reasons, the Neepawa & Area 4H Beef Club leaders decided to be proactive and prioritize oral reasons within our club judging competition. Strong oral reasons are necessary should members decide to try out for an Agribition judging team, and communication is an essential life skill. In 2021 and 2022, it was optional to present oral reasons. In 2023, we required senior and intermediate members to present oral reasons, with the option for junior and cloverbud – in which all chose to participate.

In 2024, we made it mandatory for oral reasons to be the most significant part of all scores and decided that seniors must present without their judging card. 4-H Manitoba announced a mentorship and training program to have a team selected for the Canadian Western Agribition 4-H Judging Contest. Seven members from other 4-H clubs attended our “Crash Day,” along with Karen Olafson, Club Support Coordinator from 4-H Manitoba, to participate in our judging competition. They were delighted with the new skills they learned. We hope the few extra years of experience will benefit our members when they can try out for the judging team. We sincerely thank Tim Baker for putting on his judging hat and working with our members on their judging skills over the past few years.
