Folks our nation is at a crossroads. For those who follow Christ must stand together for the gospel of the lord Jesus Christ. The recent Supreme Court rulings are attacking devoted christians everywhere. Christians libertys are being taken away one by one. Christians businesses are being told that they can and cannot do. The bakers in Colorado and Oregon, photographers in New York & mexico, a florist in Washington and most recently a county clerk in Kentucky. All these christians have felt governments control for seeking to practice their religious beliefs. This is just the beginning of government control targeting churches, christian owned businesses, Christian colleges and so on. This is the kind of spiritual and moral courage that believers will need in the months and years ahead. Folks a high school band was forced off the field at a Friday night football game because they wanted to perform how Great thou are a Christian hymn. They practiced all summer for this performance. Folks there is no doubt out great nation is at a crossroad. We are either going to take a stand for Jesus Christ’s teachings or to stand for Satan and all his evil. We can’t have faith in either party the Republicans or Democrats to solve our nations problems. Almighty God is the only one who can help our country. When our country was new schools had the 10 commandments posted in every classroom. They started the day with the lords prayer. Folks our country has changed. We have taken God out of everything. The culture around us is mocking laughing and sneering at God. I think it is very frustrating to hear the way the public hammers christians. I think we need more christians to stand up for what they believe. The Bible tells us to those who read it these times were coming. Folks the children of God have no need to fear death. On the cross Jesus bore our sins so that those who repent and put their trust in him will have eternal life in the presence of almighty God. Jesus told the people I am going away. You will search for me but will die in your sins. You cannot come where I am going. To be eternally separated from the son of God. To be in hell will be the most terrible of all judgements. Pray for our country folks and pray for your own soul.

Slowly the x-rays began to come in. The shoulder looked good, but not so good for the neck. I had two vertebrae that had been damaged and were putting pressure on my spinal cord. That pressure was causing my right arm to be paralyzed. The doctor came in and told us what was going on. They immediately put a c-collar on me and told me to be very still. My parents still had not been contacted. The pain was unbelievable. Every heart beat was like a sharp knife going into my neck and shoulder. The nurse finally said, “I’m going to give him something for pain”. While she was putting the shot in, my dad called the hospital. Soon, he had made arrangements for me to be carried to Sarasota Memorial Hospital. The hospital over there was very small and could not handle this situation. How the funeral home got involved, I don’t know. But in a little while a hearse pulled up. That’s right, a hearse. Arcadia didn’t have an ambulance service back then. The funeral home would pick up the sick and injured and take them to the hospital. Load and go they called it. I was under a lot of medication, and I might say, thank God for that because the pain was horrific. They had two people in the hearse, one to drive and one to sit beside me in the back. They brought the stretcher in and moved me on it. I had to lay perfectly still. They had a ccollar, but they had no way to keep my head from turning from the bumps. They placed a small towel and pillow on each side of my neck to keep me stable. After a few minutes we were off, the hearse, two people from the hearse and my best friend. My friend rode in the front and has told me on several occasions what happed during the transport. The pain medicine they had given me was making me sick. I needed to throw up. Well, how was that going to happen? I had a c-collar on and had pillows and towels keeping my head straight. You guessed it. I would throw straight up. Up it went like a hose spraying and then down it came all in my face. The poor man trying to help me was having such a hard time. Up the stuff went then down it came. He was told not to move me or I might be completely paralyzed so he was doing all he could to help me. I couldn’t help either. My right arm was paralyzed and with my neck held down and under the amount of medication they had given me I just wasn’t any help either. It seems funny now, but then it seemed like a nightmare that I just couldn’t wake up from…..

The French say bon voyage, or au revoir. In Spanish, it's adios, or sayonara. Auf wiedersehen is the German translation. The Italians use arrivederci or ciao. If you were speaking Ewe, you'd say mia dogo. Filipinos say magangdang gabi. In South Africa, you'd use the term totsiens mooi loop. Shalom is the Hebrew saying, and aloha is what you'd hear in Hawaii. There are tons of other languages out there, but they involve characters on my keyboard that I don't know how to use. What it all boils down to is saying goodbye. After more than six years of tolerating my nonsense, I'm setting you free. No longer will you have to search the Shopper's pages to find my babble, nor will you need to lie awake at night wondering what kind of silliness I'll write about next week. Or, if you know me personally, you won't have to worry about your antics being made public by me any longer. All in all, the community will be a safer place without me scratching around for something to write about. After much thought, I've decided to take a break from writing. We've had a bushel basket full of changes occur lately and I'm ready to close a few doors in preparation for the new ones to open. It'll be a tough habit to break, I can tell you now. As a columnist, you never look at things the way other people do. You're always trying to find an angle, a new idea, or a glint of hope that you can fill the page with enough fodder. When you figure that I've assaulted you with over 195,000 words in 325 articles, it's a bit much. (That's the equivalent of JK Rowling's The Deathly Hallows.) Sometimes a column will come to you like a dream, taking 30 minutes to peck out on the laptop and you're done. Others will require four hours of research and then you fight for every single word on the paper. Overall, the process is therapeutic. It's kind of like I'm the patient and all you guys are my therapist. I throw my thoughts and hair-brained ideas off you all and in turn, you respond with positive feedback (mostly) and amazing support. The more off-the-wall I get, the more you folks seem to love it. I'll miss that. It's also helpful to me that I'm able to get all this silliness out of my head, making room for more productive thoughts (mostly). When my noggin gets full of all that wacky junk bouncing around in there, it's tough to focus. I'll miss being able to dump all that on you. Well, not you personally, but you collectively. You guys have put up with my griping and complaining, tolerated my dog's antics, watched Curtis grow up, and sympathized with me when I try to understand why my hubby can only hear certain pitches of my voice. I've stood atop my Shopper-sized soapbox and waxed poetic about everything from southern words to fairy tales. I've hidden subliminal messages in the stories I've told, and walloped you with a heaping helping of Christian love. And you guys asked for more. I don't know why I've been allowed to write whatever strikes my fancy at the time, but I thank all the great folks at the Peace River Shopper for their kindness and support. Hopefully that free reign has been a blessing to someone at some point, giving them just what they needed at the time. I know this adventure has been a blessing to me. So, let's not say goodbye, but... until we meet again.

Job Well Wel Done Done! We would like to acknowledge and congratulate D WHDP RI VWXGHQWV IURP 0U :DGH +XFNDE\路V construction class. David Montolongo, Dionicio Ordonez, DeQualon Fudge, Donny Stiner, Luke Peachy, Guadalupe Ramirez and Jacob Allison were commissioned to construct six picnic tables at the request of the staff at New Horizons and the DeSoto Early Childhood Center. All seven of these gentlemen have been in the construction program for the full four years of their high school careers. They have all earned certifications from the National Center for Construction Education and Research, and are now being trained in the Electrical Apprenticeship program . It took the students approximately 10 hours in total to complete the project. Mr. Huckaby said he is glad to have such dependable and proficient students as products of his classroom. The School District is proud to have such hard working students committed to their education and future career paths. We thank you for completing these great additions to our facilities.
