What Does Jesus’s Resurrection Mean To You?

Folks, as we prepare our hearts in celebration of Easter, we all should take time to thank Jesus for what he has done for us. We should think about Calvary and all that our Savior accomplished for us through his death and resurrection. Folks he left the glory and splendor of Heaven to come to Earth as a human being and then on to the cross because of his love for us. His love for us is why he endured the pain and shame of hanging on a cross. With the blood he shed he purchased our salvation and healing. Folks if he hadn’t done this we would still be in all of our sins. He took all punishment for our sins. There is no greater love than this. Folks would you give your life for people you don’t even know? Folks he wants us to trust him and have faith that he done this for us. He is alive now since his resurrection. We will see him again when he comes back in the clouds for his believers. His return is not known but many signs he has already given us. There are many people who are still lost and will enter eternity to Hell. So how do we know that Jesus was resurrected? We have eyewitness accounts of the Apostles who were with him. They were with him before his crucifixion and for the 40 days between his resurrection and his ascension. They lived 40 years after and never once denying he was raised from the dead. Mark’s account from the Bible tells us the first to see the empty tomb were the women with the spices. As they entered the empty tomb a young man clothed in a long white robe said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth who was crucified. He is risen, he is not here.” We all know the man speaking was one of God’s holy Angels. We also know one of God’s Angels removed the huge stone. Whether it was this one who spoke to the women is debatable. The Bible says that if Jesus did not overpower death’s grip he would not be able to provide us with victory over death. According to the Bible the eternal destiny of every human is at stake. Because of what Jesus did, each of us has 2 choices. We can live forever under God’s blessing in Heaven or we can be separated from him eternally in the torment of Hell. It all depends on our response to Jesus’s resurrection. Folks our destiny is in God’s hands. That’s why what you believe about the resurrection is a matter of eternal life or eternal death. Folks you have to make a decision sooner or later. Do you believe that Jesus died as a sacrifice for your sins? The one who wants to know your decision has the authority to sentence you. Thank you folks.

Gary and I decided to call my landlord and see if he had a bigger apartment. We did like the area. It was right across from a big lake. It was great. When we called him, he came over and showed us a big 1 bedroom apartment. It was right across from where my apartment was, about 50 ft. away. It was a full 1 bedroom apartment with a separate kitchen, separate bathroom and a separate bedroom. Remember I had a two room apartment. One room had the bathroom and the other had a bed behind the curtain that had to be pulled down so to us, it looked HUGE. After a few minutes we decided that I was to have the bedroom and Gary would take the living room. The couch made a bed and Gary was happy with that. Besides, staying together was saving us a lot of money. Soon, we were all moved in and ready to go to work. That Tuesday we walked into our new store in Lake Placid. The store manager was Doug Durden. I don’t know how I can remember his name. Him and his wife both worked there. Everything was going great. We were both 18 years old and had the world by the horns. Plenty of money and friends. We both had fast cars, he had a Chevy and I had a Plymouth Roadrunner. Oh yeah, a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner with a 383 magnum motor and a horn that made a sound like the roadrunner cartoon. It was a beautiful car, silver with a small black stripe and a raised front hood. Man oh Man was it pretty. I had traded my buddy Buster for it. He bought it and wanted to get out from under the payments. He was already married and needed to cut back so I traded him a 1967 Plymouth GTX, with a 383 super commando in it. I had already burnt up two transmissions in that car racing it around Arcadia, and my uncle Paul had already rebuilt the motor and it still ran like a scalded dog. I know that sounds silly, but that’s the wording we used to use. Buster lived way out on highway 70 east, off of Thomas road. We met at the old Winn Dixie on south 17 to make the trade. On his way home he burned the third transmission out. I felt so terrible about it, but what could I do. He said that he was going a little fast when it went out and I am sure he was. He was used to driving pretty fast anyway. The car he had earlier was an even faster car, a 1956 or so Plymouth with a hemi. That car was the fastest car I had ever seen in my life. Boy was it fast. He was clocked one time at 156 mph. going to Wauchula to see his girlfriend, now his wife. Anyway, things were going great until one day my supervisor says that they want me to go to Port Charlotte in the produce department. Well, it is closer to Arcadia so, I said I would and the next week there I was. A new store, a new manager and now a new department. I have never been sure of why, but I didn’t have to worry about that very long. After only a few months, one day my supervisor walks in and says he wants me to go to Arcadia and work in the produce department there. So, after all that, I had just turned 19 years old and I am now working in the Winn Dixie in Arcadia. But, back then it was called Kwik Chek and was down on highway 17 in that old shopping center on the west side of the road. That shopping center back then was a busy place. It had a drug store, shoe store, laundry mat and a restaurant. It was a great place to work. My new store manager’s name was Ervin Moore. I’m sure you have heard of Ervin Moore. There was always a little boy running around the store back then, Ervin’s son Kenny. He was a little brat back then, always under foot and getting himself and us in trouble. Kenny grew up to be a very successful and well known man in our town. Stop by and tell him he was a brat when he was younger. He owns K&J Produce out on highway 70 east. His meat market is called “Little Ervin’s” after his dad. Ervin Moore was a great boss, and he could probably out work any two of us. That man was a hard worker. I have no idea how many hours he worked a week, but it had to be at least 60 or 70 and we were closed on Sunday.

Michael Arthur Nastav, age 68, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 at his home in Arcadia, FL. Michael was born August 22, 1948 in Rochester, New York. Michael participated in the Arc Angels Flag Team and the Special Olympics of DeSoto County. He enjoyed participating in the parades in Arcadia and listening to Rock & Roll and playing his air guitar. Michael is survived by special friends and caretaker; Judi and Tom Ricci, Arcadia, FL, his church family, at New Day Baptist Church, his family at Arc DeSoto Inc., and his special friends at Arcadia Oaks. Michael has two foster sisters; Nancy Mathewson, of Hardy Manor, Wauchula, and Linda Graff of Rochester, New York. Michael is preceded in death by his foster parents; Antoinette and Wilfred Smith of Delray Beach, FL. A “Celebration of Life” for Michael will begin at 2:00pm, Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, 50 No. Hillsborough Avenue, Arcadia, FL. Ashley Ray Snow, age 22, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017. Ashley was born August 25, 1994 in Bradenton, Florida to Daniel Wesley Snow and Josephine Angela Pruitt. She graduated from De Soto County High School in Arcadia, Florida in 2012. She was very active in chorus and drama from middle school through high school. Ashley attended Carteret Community College in Morehead City, North Carolina where she obtained her AS degree for EMT. She pursued her career as a paramedic for Friendly Medical Transport in Morehead City. She moved to Flippin in December 2016 and was employed at Parkview Pizza in Flippin as a cook; she loved her job. Ashley loved with her whole heart; she held nothing back. Ashley is survived by her father and stepmother Daniel and Lexan Snow of Morehead City, North Carolina; her sister AnnMarie Norton of Eugene, Oregon; her stepbrother Mac Blanchard of Houston, Texas; her grandparents Lowell and Cindy Snow of Yellville, Arkansas; Dennis and Sharon Cramer of Bradenton, Florida; her great-grandmother Miriam Snow of Greentown, Indiana; her aunts: Crysten Cramer and Destiny (Robert) Velasquez, all of Bradenton, Florida; and her loving extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Josephine Angela Pruitt; her great-grandparents Raymond and Joyce Senatre; and Robert Snow. A memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.
