Two broke and hungry best friends, Dave and John, go to a pastry shop. Dave suddenly whisks three cookies into his pocket with lightning speed. The baker doesn't notice. He says to John, "See how clever I am? You'll never beat that!" John replies, "Oh yeah? Watch this." He says to the baker, "Give me a cookie, I can show you a magic trick!" The baker hands him a cookie which he promptly eats. Then he says to the baker: "Give me another cookie for my magic trick." The baker is getting suspicious but he gives it to him. He eats this one too. Then he says again: "Give me one more cookie... " The baker is getting angry now but gives him one anyway. He eats this one too. Now the baker is really mad, and he yells, "And where is your magic trick?!" John points at Dave and says: "In that guy's pocket!"

Diana Davis Youmans, age 67 of Wauchula, passed away August 5, 2018 in Tampa. She was born February 27, 1951 in Haines City, Florida where she grew up and attended high school. She met her husband, Jim Youmans and moved to Wauchula in 1969. Diana first served the community as a teacher but spent most of her professional life working in the Phosphate Industry, often working alongside her former students. Diana spent 25 years with the industry before retiring from Mosaic last year. Diana was a respected and beloved leader whose commitment to her community created a meaningful and lasting impact. Her welcoming smile and tireless work ethic was often at the center of events for the numerous organizations she championed throughout her life. She was a cheerleading and majorette coach, a science teacher, served on the board of the Cloverleaf Foundation of Hardee County, Hardee Education Foundation Board, Friends of the Parks and was a founding member of the library board of Hardee County. Diana made sure there were cookies with Santa at the Library. She never missed a Wildcat Tailgate Party, made sure her fair booth was the best and remained a staunch supporter of 4H in Hardee and across the region. Diana also loved the many dogs who called her mom, the symphony, good wine, travel and adventures with her dear friends and son, Kerry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim “Jimmy” Youmans and Father, Charles Davis. Diana is survived by her loving son Michael "Kerry" Youmans of New York City; Mother, Norma Ruppel of Wauchula; sister, Cherie Polley of Indiana and numerous nieces and nephews. Diana was a graduate of Warner Southern College. Visitation will be held from 2:00pm4:00pm with Services following at 4:00pm on Friday August 10, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Wauchula. Burial will be private in Wauchula Cemetery. On-line condolences may be made at PongerKaysGrady.com. The family has asked that memorial remembrances in Diana’s name be directed to the Hardee Education Foundation or the Cloverleaf Foundation of Hardee County. Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Chapter 11 by Bumpy Thermos Jerry is in the cellar with the monster offspring on fire and still in the egg. The flare is burning the thing alive, but now the cellar door is starting to come apart. The monster mother is determined to get to her offspring that is screaming at the top of its lungs. This time she is actually chewing the door into little pieces. She finally gets her head in the door and looks Jerry right in the eyes. Jerry is sure that this monster is the same one that tried to get him by the still. Now Jerry is cornered again and is sure that this time his life is over. Just then he hears someone yell, “HEY”. The monster pauses for just a second and looks up. George is standing in the living room with a shotgun in his hands. BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM. The monster is down, BOOM goes the shotgun again, but this time it is pushed right up against the monster’s head. George is determined to end this monster’s killing NOW. George yells to Jerry to come on out and that the monster is dead. Jerry slowly comes out of the cellar and sees this great big monster laying on the floor. He then he walks over to George and gives him a hug. We thought you were dead for sure. The last time we saw you, you were hanging from the monster’s jaws like a rag doll. George laughs and says that wasn’t the best part. That while this monster was carrying him off to a place to have lunch, he fell in a big hole that someone had dug for a bear. As the monster went down, he let George go to get a better grip he guessed. Anyway George grabbed a tree root on the way down and got away. George says that the monster is still back there in the pit and that the guys that came with Jerry were all back there now. Jerry can’t believe his eyes. George is still alive and he has the other monster in a hole. The mother monster is dead and the offspring has been killed. This is great. They take a moment and look around. Jerry’s poor cabin is ruined, window, doors, floors and all the furniture were gone. Everything will have to be replaced. But, George is alive. That’s one good thing. They put their hands on each other’s shoulders and walk out the door heading toward the monster in the hole. As they are walking along, George looks down at Jerry’s shoes and laughs. Jerry wants to know what is so funny. George points to his shoes, still shiny as ever. Jerry then starts laughing and tells him that these were the only shoes he could find when he was in the cellar the first time the monsters came in and that he just hadn’t found the time to change. They both have a big laugh and continue to the pit that the monster is in. When they got there, sure enough there was the rest of the guys standing around tormenting the monster in the pit. Even using his huge tail, the monster was not able to escape the pit. Thank goodness for that because the guys had seen this monster kill their friends and they knew what it was capable of. When George got back to town, he called the game warden and reported what had happened. If you want to see how big that monster is, you can go to the San Diego Zoo in California. He is on the sub ground floor behind a cage with the name Eddie in big red letters. The zoo people are not sure exactly what this thing is, but they are sure that it has the biggest eyes and the longest tail of any creature they have at the zoo. They don’t know much about this monster, but they are sure of one thing. If you get close to him with real shiny shoes, he will try to eat you up…
The End!!
