Folks more problems are ahead for America. Over the past 75 years mankind has made remarkable advances in medical research. We have conquered most infectious diseases like smallpox, diphtheria, cholera, polio and others. I’m sorry that cancer is not one of them. We have learned most of the dangerous and toxic microorganisms germs that cause disease. Antibiotics were a God blessed drug for us many bacterial viruses, fungi, and parasites have found ways to fight back. We have new bacteria immune against antibiotics folks calles super bugs. They are resistant to all antibiotics. The medical name for this bug is MRSA. Folks we are heading for major problems. A common infection and minor injuries can once again kill TB, salmonella, E-coli, tetanus, whooping cough and even cholera are returning stronger. Antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest threats to global health today. It can affect anyone any age in any country. Antibiotics are becoming more and more less effective. Folks our world urgently needs to repent and ask God for forgiveness. Antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest threats to global health today. Many forms of resistance spread with remarkable speed. A crisis is pon us and we are running out of time and the ability to defend ourselves. If current trends continue this will mean the end of modern medicine as we know it. Folks pray that medical research will make a breakthrough. A time will come when no amount of medical intervention will be able to stop the speed of disease and deaths afflicting mankind. Jesus described various signs that would happen. They would include wars, famines and pestilences. What is a pestilence? A pestilence is a disease or plague. Matthew 24:7. Matthew also adds that these things are only the beginning of sorrows. These factors will worsen over time as we come nearer to Christ’s return. Many of you reading these word will be alive to witness these earth shattering events. War, famine and pestilence will run wild when the 4 horsemen commence their ride across our earth. The 4 horseman is another message folks from the book of Revelations of the Bible. The suffering they inflict will come to an end when Christ intervenes to save the world and establish God’s Kingdom. When this happens he will usher in an age of peace and hapiness. Wars, famines, pestilences, super bugs included will cease to be problems. Folks I pray you will make a new years resolution to pray to God everyday. Thank You!

CONGRATULATIONS to the 4-H and FFA students who participated in the DeSoto County Fairâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Youth Livestock Show. Mosaic congratulates the dedicated 4-H and FFA students who worked tirelessly to make the Youth Livestock Show a success. We also salute the community members and fellow businesses that continue to support youth agriculture each year. This year, Mosaic donated nearly 800 pounds of meat from the livestock sale to All Faiths Food Bank to help those in need in DeSoto County. Mosaic also donated meat to DeSoto County Youth Baseball, Blazing Blue Band and the DeSoto Chamber of Commerce. Livestock purchases at the fair directly supported DeSoto Senior FFA and DeSoto 4-H. We help the world grow the food it needs.

Community Obituaries
Elizabeth Joan Holley Fennell, 81 of Arcadia Florida went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday January 31, 2016. She was born on February 21, 1934 in Arcadia to William Mack and Flora Ellen Holley. She was of the Baptist faith. On October 21, 1954 she married John Fennell Jr. She raised her family in Arcadia while her husband was employed by the United States Army. She worked for the DeSoto County School District in the cafeteria at West Elementary and DeSoto High School for 25 years. Her family was her biggest concern and she didn’t start working until her youngest child was in school. She was a life member of the VFW Post #3880 and a Gold Star wife. Elizabeth is survived by her children Linda Wynn of Fort Myers, Florida John (Dawn) Fennell of Orlando, Florida and Judy Dazey of Arcadia, Florida. Seven grandchildren, Matthew Kerce, Jaime Wynn, Tambra and Blake Fennell, David,Kristal and Staci Wynn. Five greatgrandchildren, Chloe Kerce, Taylor, Jailyn and Chandler Wynn and her newest one born two weeks ago Nevaeh Louise Kerce. She is also survived by her caregiver and best friend Minnie Jean Jones. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters Mary C. Holley, Flora Bell Wilmott, Laura Lewis, Nita Norris, Virginia Coker and son-in-law Gary D. Wynn Sr. Graveside service will be February 4, 2016 at 11:30 am at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Arcadia, Florida. Janis Marie (nee Cline) Gainous, 73, of Arcadia, FL, passed away suddenly on February 1, 2016 in Port Charlotte, FL. Janis was born at the old Desoto Hospital on April 4, 1942 to the late; James Elmer and Edna Marie Paulison Cline. As a young child, the Cline family moved to Miami and later returned to Desoto County, where Janis would graduate from Desoto High School. As a student, Janis was involved in sports, including volleyball and basketball. Janis met and married Byrle Eugene Gainous. Together, they owned and operated Gene's Auto Body Shop in Arcadia for more than forty years. She also took great pride in the raising of their daughters and her role as homemaker. After Byrle's death in 2003, she used her sleepless nights to work the midnight shift at Walmart in Arcadia. Janis enjoyed watching football and considered the Raiders and Steelers to be her favorite NFL teams, and the Seminoles, her favorite college team. Janis was an animal lover, especially of German Shepherds. Janis' family considers her to be spunky, quick witted, "Ball of Fire." A woman with a zest for life, who although was experiencing some health issues, always considered herself "A winner, either way." Janis loved her family, her extended family of Walmart and her church family. She loved spending time with her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Janis left an impression on those whose lives she touched and will be deeply missed.

Janis Gainous is survived by her daughters; Debra (James) Taylor, of Arcadia, Patricia (Buddy) Bishop, of Lakeland, brother, James Benjamin (Janice) Cline of Pensacola, sisters; Gladys (Sidney) Albritton, of Arcadia, Dianne (Robert) Petry, of Arcadia, grandchildren; Jennifer Collins (Matthew) Evans, John (Danielle) Taylor, Bradley Allen Bishop, Ronnie Lee Bishop, Suzanne Nicole (David) Lyle, Phillip Chad (Stephanie) Bishop, James Dudley Bishop, great-grandchildren; Austin Evans, Parker Evans, Kylee Taylor, William Lyle, Alyssa Lyle, Shyanne Bishop, Shannon Bishop, Danniele Bishop, Havoc Bishop, Jace Bishop, Avery Bishop and Grayson Bishop. Janis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Byrle, their 12 year old daughter, Tammy Sue Gainous and nephew Jimmy A. Albritton. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 5, 2016 at First Christian Church of Arcadia, on ElVerano and Maple, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with her brother, Jimmy Cline officiating. She will then be laid to rest in Oakridge Cemetery.
Kathy Jo Lord, age 61, died unexpectedly on December 31, 2015 at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, due to complications following a car accident that occurred in Arcadia, Florida. She left this earth surrounded by dear friends and family. Born on September 20th, 1954, in Cadillac, Michigan to Oscar and Dolores (Batt) Anderson. Kathy started her long history of outdoor hard work early in the cherry orchards in Traverse City, Michigan. After graduating from Cadillac Senior High School in 1972, Kathy packed up her horse and moved to Ona, Florida. She instantly fell in love with Florida and made it her home. It was Florida that filled her soul, and here she remained. She worked as a State employee for Florida for many years before taking up the sale of antiques, Native American jewelry, and especially Florida Folk Art. Kathy loved old Florida so much that she took a deep interest in the Florida Highwaymen paintings. She met many of highwaymen painters and purchased most of their work directly from them. She believed passionately in the subject matter, and loved the place she called home, the beautiful Florida countryside. Kathy had a profound devotion to animals, especially mistreated ones, and was known to nurse or even adopt any ailing creature that crossed her path. No one who met her could forget her deep love and devotion to her animals, she treated them like family. Her love of animals could only be compared to her love of family, as a matter of fact. Kathy loved her sisters and children fiercely. Kandice, Karol, and Suzanne all spoke to her nearly every day, and Kandice moved to Arcadia to be near her. Many say Kandice and she were as close as twins. Her two beloved children, Cully and Fonya Lord and her beautiful grandson Carter also survive Kathy. Her love for them was understood completely by all who crossed her path; pictures and a list of their achievements were always shared with anyone who would listen. Her children, and all of her family, will never forget Kathy’s unbelievable sense of humor. She was always one to bring laughter to others, no matter what the circumstance. Her mother, Dolores, whom still lives in Michigan, also survives her. After the passing of their biological father Oscar, Dolores married Bud Baker, a wonderful father figure for the girls. Bud passed years ago, but was always a loved and cherished influence for Kathy and her sisters. Kathy was a part of us and will always be in our hearts, and honored in our minds with fond thoughts, memories, and joyful love. A Celebration of family and friends will be held Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 4:00pm at the chapel of Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Homes, 50 N. Hillsborough Ave. Arcadia. We ask that you make donations to your local animal shelter or Hardee County Animal Control in lieu of flowers. Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Homes have been entrusted with the arrangements.

Horace Hiram Pursell, age 89, of Arcadia, Fl, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016 at his home with his loving family at his bedside. Horace was owner and co-founder of ABLE Wrecker Service. Horace was born in Clarksville, TN, April 21, 1926. He moved with his family to Arcadia in 1974 to begin serving the DeSoto county community with 24 hour wrecker service. Horace operated the wrecker equipment until retiring at age 88. Horace was a veteran of WWII, serving with U. S. Army. He was a devout Christian and a “soldier for his Lord.” Horace was also a published poet. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Arcadia, FL where he was active in all of the church’s functions. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and listening to southern gospel music. Horace is preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Patricia Irene Lee Pursell, two brothers, Raymond Aubrey Pursell, Glen Pursell, two sisters, Margaret Purvis and Helen Beasley. Visitation will be conducted on Monday evening, Feb. 8, 2016, from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at the chapel of Ponger-KaysGrady Funeral home, 50 No. Hillsborough Ave., Arcadia, FL. Funeral services will be at 10:30AM, Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016 at the Church of the Nazarene, Arcadia. Burial will be in Joshua Creek Cemetery with the DeSoto Honor guard to render military honors. Gary and I decided to call my landlord and see if he had a bigger apartment. We did like the area. It was right across from a big lake. It was great. When we called him, he came over and showed us a big 1 bedroom apartment. It was right across from where my apartment was, about 50 ft. away. It was a full 1 bedroom apartment with a separate kitchen, separate bathroom and a separate bedroom. Remember I had a two room apartment. One room had the bathroom and the other had a bed behind the curtain that had to be pulled down so to us, it looked HUGE. After a few minutes we decided that I was to have the bedroom and Gary would take the living room. The couch made a bed and Gary was happy with that. Besides, staying together was saving us a lot of money. Soon, we were all moved in and ready to go to work. That Tuesday we walked in to our new store in Lake Placid. The store manager was Doug Durden. I don’t know how I can remember his name. Him and his wife both worked there. Everything was going great. We were both 18 years old and had the world by the horns. Plenty of money and friends. We both had fast cars, he had a Chevy and I had a Plymouth Roadrunner. Oh yeah, a 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner with a 383 magnum motor and a horn that made a sound like the roadrunner cartoon. It was a beautiful car, silver with a small black stripe and a raised front hood. Man oh Man was it pretty. I had traded my buddy Buster for it. He bought it and wanted to get out from under the payments. He was already married and needed to cut back so I traded him a 1967 Plymouth GTX, with a 383 super commando in it. I had already burnt up two transmissions in that car racing it around Arcadia, and my uncle Paul had already rebuilt the motor and it still ran like a scalded dog. (I know that sounds silly, but that’s the wording we use to use.) Buster lived way out on highway 70 east, off of Thomas road. We met at the old Winn Dixie on south 17 to make the trade. On his way home he burned the third transmission out. I felt so terrible about it, but what could I do. He said that he was going a little fast when it went out and I am sure he was. He was use to driving pretty fast anyway. The car he had earlier was an even faster car, a 1956 or so Plymouth with a hemi. That car was the fastest car I had ever seen in my life. Boy was it fast…. He was clocked one time at 156 mph. going to Wauchula to see his girlfriend, now his wife. Anyway, things were going great until one day my supervisor says that they want me to go to Port Charlotte in the produce department. Well, it is closer to Arcadia so, I said I would and the next week there I was. A new store, a new manager and now a new department. I have never been sure of why, but I didn’t have to worry about that very long. After only a few months, one day my supervisor walks in and says he wants me to go to Arcadia and work in the produce department there. So, after all that, I had just turned 19 years old and I am now working in the Winn Dixie in Arcadia. But, back then it was called Kwik Chek and was down on highway 17 in that old shopping center on the west side of the road. That shopping center back then was a busy place. It had a drug store, shoe store, laundry mat and a restaurant. It was a great place to work. My new store manager’s name was Ervin Moore. I’m sure you have heard of Ervin Moore. There was always a little boy running around the store back then, Ervin’s son Kenny. He was a little brat back then, always under foot and getting himself and us in trouble. Kenny grew up to be a very successful and well known man in our town. Stop by and tell him he was a brat when he was younger. He owns K&J Produce out on highway 70 east.
