Joey Arrigo Turns Up the Energy in “Get Down”, His Feel-Good Summer Jam

Joey Arrigo’s new anthemic club banger, “Get Down”, is a siren call for party goers to get down and dance this summer, as well as to get down and f-. Produced by Velvet Code, the song combines Joey’s love of 80s synth/rock with early 2000s pop and celebrates the artist’s newfound joy of self. “I’m focusing on my personal happiness this summer and taking control of my own life,” Joey Arrigo says. “A partner doesn’t belong in my life right now. I’m looking forward to a few months of dancing and screwing with an influx of dopamine, serotonin, endorphins and a whole lot of sweat,” he laughs. Joey Arrigo’s “Get Down”, and its brand-new remixes by DJs Dan Slater, Erick Ibiza, GSP, and more, are available on all streaming platforms.

“I want fans to experience a taste of the self-discovery journey I am on,” Joey Arrigo continues from his Toronto home. “I hope the song encourages them to dance more. F more. Do that thing they’ve always wanted to do. If there’s something or someone standing in your way, move them.”

The “Get Down” music video, directed by Francis Luta and filmed at Pie in the Sky Studio 4 in Toronto, reflects Arrigo’s unbridled liberation. It depicts the artist walking alone in a dry dystopia, following an apocalyptic storm.

to a high I didn’t think I could achieve on my own.

“At some point, after the relationship cooled or the drug wore off, I would crash down and find myself still writhing in agony in a pool of loneliness,” he adds.

He is lost and tired, bruised and battered, searching for something. He is led to a golden goddess figure who offers him a safe space where he can express his deepest desires and find healing.

Joey understands now that what he has been looking for in real life is connection - to feel seen, heard, valued, and understood - and that he has often gone about it the wrong way. “I tried finding it in relationships where I would let others control me. I tried finding it in a bag of cocaine where the drug would take me

He says it has taken time for him to realize that the power of connection was in himself all along. “I needed to love me,” he says. “I needed to shed the insecurity, the need for validation, and simply shine as my true self and let the world see what I have to offer as an artist.”

All of the choreography in the “Get Down” video was created by Joey Arrigo. He incorporates a variety of styles and genres of dance into it, including contemporary improv, technical jazz, and ballet. “The choreography is meant to be strong, empowering, sexy and a delicious mix of masculine and feminine, as I am.”

Joey Arrigo grew up in Ontario, Canada. He recalls his childhood being centered around costume, music, singing, and performing. He discovered dance at fouryears-old when his sister was

enrolled in classes. “I stood at the door of the class with fire in my eyes, desperate to be in the class myself,” Joey recalls. At five-years-old, he discovered a VHS recording of Cirque du Soleil’s 1989 show Nouvelle Experience and was captivated with the contortionist act. He remembers teaching himself the routine – or rather, a simulation of it – and reenacting the performance for his family in his living room.

Today, the dancer, acrobat, actor, teacher, choreographer and singer is best known for competing on CTV’s So You Think You Can Dance Canada. Arrigo has played the principal character in Cirque du Soleil’s Volta. He was featured in Cirque du Soleil’s Kooza and he made guest appearances on Ukraine’s Everybody Dance and Disney’s Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure. He has also played

an androgynous evil queen in A Grimm Night, based on the Grimm Brother’s Fairytales, and starred in the role of Renfield in The Eve of St. George, based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Joey Arrigo released his debut dance music single, “Let It Crash,” in June 2023.

In addition to his artistry, Joey Arrigo is a strong advocate for mental health issues. He was diagnosed with ADHD in December 2023. He is also a National Ambassador for CANFAR, the Canadian Foundation for Aids Research. He has been HIV+ for nearly eight years. The diagnosis led to some of his biggest struggles in life, but also provided moments of growth. Arrigo is always eager to share his thoughts on what it means to live with HIV, to be sexually liberated and powerful with HIV and to ultimately thrive with HIV.

Joey Arrigo’s “Get Down” is available on Spotify, Apple Music and most streaming platforms via So Fierce Music/The Orchard/Sony Music Entertainment, along with brand new remixes by DJs Dan Slater, Erick Ibiza, GSP, and more. Visit GetDownwithJoey. com.

Mr. Man Shines Its Spotlight on the Year’s Male Tony Nominees

The 77th Annual Tony Awards take place on June 16th, and the team at Mr. Man are gearing up for it by spotlighting the year’s sexiest male thespian nominees and their out of costume achievements!

The round-up begins with Liev Schreiber, nominated for “Best Leading Actor in a Play” for his role in Doubt. Mr. Schreiber first appeared on Broadway in 1993’s In the Summer House. Since then, he has starred in over a dozen Broadway productions, winning the Tony Award in 2015 for “Best Featured Actor in a Play” for Glengarry Glen Ross. Schreiber earns Mr. Man’s recognition for his skinny-dipping scene in the movie, Ray Donovan.

Daniel Radcliffe, nominated for “Best Featured Actor in a Musical” for his role in Merrily We Roll Along, also gets a nod from Mr. Man this year. The Harry Potter star famously kicked off his theater career with

Equus in 2008, and has been in numerous Broadway productions since including How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying Merrily We Roll Along is his first Tony nomination to date. Radcliffe earns Mr. Man’s appreciation for his role in 2013’s Kill Your Darlings, where he revealed his backside in a gay sex scene.

Jonathan Groff is a Broadway veteran and has been in contention for two Tonys previously – for his starring role in Spring Awakening and for his scene-stealing portrayal of King George III in Hamilton. He’s nominated this year for “Best Leading Actor in a Musical” for Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along. In addition to his stage work, Groff is the voice of Kristoff in Disney’s Frozen and he recently starred in the fourth installment of the Matrix franchise, The Matrix Resurrections. Mr. Man is recognizing Jonathan Groff for his HBO series Looking and for his full-frontal scene in the little-known 2010 film, Twelve Thirty

Corey Stoll’s four Broadway appearances span twenty years, with his first being in 2003’ Henry IV. His nomination for “Best Featured Actor In A Play” in Appropriate is his first Tony recognition, and his fans couldn’t be more excited. He’s a favorite on the small screen with roles in HBO’s House of Cards and Girls. It is Stoll’s sex scene opposite fellow thespian Andrew Rannells in Girls that

earns him his Mr. Man mention.

Hollywood actor Eddie Redmayne is no stranger to theatre. He made his Broadway debut in Red, earning a Tony Award for “Best Featured Actor in a Play”. He starred as The Emcee in the West End revival of Cabaret in 2022, winning a Laurence Olivier Award for “Best Actor in a Musical”. He is now nominated for a Tony for the Broadway production of Cabaret and is widely viewed as the frontrunner. Meanwhile, Mr. Man is recognizing Redmayne for his role playing a trans woman in the film, The Danish Girl, where he appeared in a full-frontal scene.

Rounding out Mr. Man’s spotlight on the year’s sexiest male Tony nominees is Jim Parsons, nominated for “Best Featured Actor in A Play” for Mother Play. The out actor has a proud history of playing challenging gay roles on Broadway, including in The Normal Heart and The Boys In The Band. This year’s nomination marks Parsons’ first Tony nomination. He has yet to film a nude scene on screen, however, Parsons was featured prominently in Matt Bomer’s full frontal nude scene in The Boys In The Band, and so for that, he receives an honorable mention from Mr. Man.

Juneteenth: Honoring and Heritage

Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, marks a pivotal moment in American history—the emancipation of the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, in 1865. This day, now a federal holiday, stands as a powerful reminder of resilience, liberation, and the ongoing struggle for racial equality. Celebrating Juneteenth is essential not only to honor this historic milestone but also to acknowledge the enduring contributions and cultural heritage of African Americans. In Atlanta, a city rich in civil rights history, Juneteenth celebrations are vibrant, meaningful, and inclusive, with the Juneteenth Atlanta Parade and Music Festival and Juneteenth at the High Museum standing out as key events.

The Significance of Juneteenth

Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, commemorates the day when Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the end of slavery, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation

was issued by President Abraham Lincoln. This delay underscores the importance of Juneteenth as a day of reflection on the long and arduous journey to freedom and justice for African Americans.

Celebrating Juneteenth is crucial for several reasons:

1. Historical Awareness

It educates the public about a significant yet often overlooked chapter in American history.

2. Cultural Recognition

It celebrates the rich cultural heritage and contributions of African Americans.

3. Community Building

It fosters a sense of community and solidarity.

4. Reflection and Progress

It encourages reflection on past injustices and the ongoing fight for racial equality and justice.
