End 2024 & Start 2025 with a BANG!
By Tim Blankenship
What better way to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new than by immersing yourself in two festivals designed to celebrate LGBTQ+ pride and togetherness? Whether you prefer soaking up the sun and sounds in Miami or reveling in the bold, electrifying atmosphere of D.C., Dreamland and MAL Weekend provide the perfect opportunity to ring in the new year with joy, culture, and community in two of America’s most dynamic cities.
From December 27 through January 1, Dreamland transforms Miami into a paradise of music, art, and celebration. Often referred to as the “Queer Coachella,” this annual New
Year’s music festival is the largest LGBTQ+ celebration of its kind in North America. Featuring six spectacular parties over five days, Dreamland offers an electrifying lineup of world-renowned artists, including Purple Disco Machine, Dombresky, and Coco & Breezy, who will keep the beats pumping across disco, house, and electronic genres. Set against Miami’s breathtaking coastal views, Dreamland’s events will unfold in iconic venues like M2 and Kygo’s Palm Tree Club, offering the ultimate blend of tropical
luxury and festival energy. One of this year’s highlights is the introduction of Teleport City, a 5-D multi-sensory experience that invites attendees to step into a dreamlike reality, creating unforgettable memories to carry into 2025.
As fireworks light up the Miami skies, festivalgoers will celebrate with thousands of likeminded individuals, united in love, inclusion, and resilience. Jake Resnicow, the festival’s producer, emphasizes the significance of creating safe and empowering spaces for the queer community to thrive amidst external challenges. Dreamland is more than a festival; it’s a sanctuary where LGBTQ+ individuals can express themselves freely and celebrate their collective strength.
After dancing into 2025 at Dreamland, the celebration continues just days later in Washington, D.C., with the Mid-Atlantic Leather Weekend from January 9 through January 12. Known as one of the world’s premier leather and fetish festivals, MAL offers a dynamic mix of community, artistry, and boundary-pushing parties. Partnering with KINETIC Presents, this year’s event will deliver the largest MAL experience to date, featuring four incredible parties designed to captivate attendees.
The festivities kick off with BOOTCAMP, the
sounds, and breathtaking stage production. The weekend culminates on Sunday with LUST, a sultry closing event featuring Grammy-nominated DJ Abel and Sam Blacky, offering dark beats and sensual energy in one of D.C.’s hottest venues.
MAL Weekend is more than a party; it’s a celebration of the leather and fetish communities’ culture and artistry, as well as a philanthropic force, having raised over $150,000 for LGBTQIA+ nonprofits last year. Like Dreamland, it serves as a safe and welcoming space for attendees to explore, connect, and embrace being gay in the USA!
official opening party on Thursday, featuring DJs Onyx, Alex Lo, and Dan Slater in an electric atmosphere with immersive play zones. On Friday, UNCUT XL takes over the renovated Republiq venue with circuit and tech house beats from renowned DJs and performances by adult entertainers. Saturday’s main event, PERVERT, promises to be the weekend’s centerpiece with its warehouse setting, tribal and deep house

QUEER
Uma Thurman plans to clean
By Romeo San Vicente
house
“Pulp Fiction” icon Uma Thurman has signed on to a new 1930s-set period drama, “The Housekeeper,” alongside “Bridgerton” star Phoebe Dynevor. Directed by Richard Eyre (“Notes on a Scandal” and “Iris”) with a script from author Rose Tremain, adapting her own forthcoming novel, the story is a fictionalized telling of the incidents that inspired novelist Daphne du Maurier’s gothic novel, “Rebecca,” which was, in turn, turned into a classic film from Alfred Hitchcock. Thurman will star in the title role with Dynevor as du Maurier and joining them will be Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins as Lord DeWithers, owner of Manderville Hall. All other plot details are a mystery, which is fitting for something that led to the mysterious “Rebecca.” It goes in front of the camera in 2025. Re-watch that Hitchcock in the meantime.
Indya Moore visits ‘Mother, Father, Sister, Brother’
“ Pose” princess Indya Moore is hard at work on a new comedydrama from acclaimed indie filmmaker Jim Jarmusch. It’s called “Father, Mother, Sister, Brother” and will take form of a triptych. It will feature three different stories (the press release calls them “quiet” and “observational”) related to adult children, estranged parents and strained family scenarios all around, with each story taking place at the same time but in different countries — the U.S., France, and Ireland. Alongside Moore, the film costars Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver, Mayim Bialik, Tom Waits, Charlotte Rampling, Vicky Krieps (“Phantom Thread”) and “Grown-ish” star Luka Sabbat. In production now, we’re looking forward to a little official “quiet” after the screaming election of 2024. If we want more noise we’ll just rewatch “August Osage County.”
Jinkx Monsoon returns to Broadway
Jinkx Monsoon already made her Broadway debut in “Chicago” in 2023, and now they want her back there for a reimagined “Pirates of Penzance.” The “RuPaul’s Drag Race” legend will hit the boards in “Pirates! The Penzance Musical,” alongside “Frazier” star David Hyde Pierce and Ramin Karimloo (“Funny Girl”). Rupert Holmes has taken the classic Gilbert & Sullivan comic opera and is turning it on its head to become a New Orleans-set, jazzbased musical comedy. Monsoon will play Ruth, Karimloo the Pirate King, and Pierce will handle Major General Stanley. And yes, readers of a certain age will remember Mr. Holmes from his ’70s pop career and “The Piña Colada Song.” Now you know what’s he’s been up to lately. Check out his latest project in April of 2025.
Andrew Scott feels the ‘Pressure’
Andrew Scott refuses to take a vacation. He’s jumped on board another new project, “Pressure,” for director-screenwriter Anthony Maras (“Hotel Mumbai”) and Olivier Award winning co-screenwriter David Haig. The true story, based on Haig’s acclaimed play, is set during WWII, will star Scott as Britain’s chief meteorologist James Stagg, whose timing assessments and decision-
making was critical to Allied forces on the eve of the D-Day invasion of Normandy. Brendan Fraser plays Dwight Eisenhower and the film costars Kerry Condon (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), Chris Messina (“The Mindy Project”) and Damian Lewis (“Billions”). This has award season written all over it, of course, and it’s currently filming in the U.K. Make plans now to take your history-loving Dad on a movie date.

Have yourself a merry li le Christmas sounds kind of condescending now…
If there’s a guy who won’t leave you alone, just ask for money. He will either leave you alone instantly or give you money. Both is great.
Itʼs come to my attention that some of you don gay apparel all year long.
At this point, I’m just going to jingle some of the way. I’m tired.
All I really wanted for Christmas is for Santa to give me whatever Lindsay Lohan got done.
I can achieve anything I put my mind to, unless it’s boring or hard.
Recipes should include photos of the mess you have to clean up after cooking it!
This year felt like being awake during surgery.
