From the Editor In essence, the Cinco de Mayo holiday celebrates the shared heritage between Mexico and the U.S. That the holiday has become more of a themed drinking fest than an actual commemoration of the Mexican Army’s unlikely victory over the French in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, is a shame on a culturally appropriating level. And it is also the reason why this issue isn’t dedicated to the holiday, but only nods at it. So, enjoy the extensive tequila guide for the best margs ever, and be proactive on how you can remedy that nasty tequila hangover the day after. And as Jamie Kirk states, you can certainly learn a thing or two from being victorious under the most unlikely circumstances.

Sordid Lives
at the Out Front Theatre Company Out Front Theatre’s final production of their 2017-18 season, Sordid Lives, hits the stage May 3-20. The theater’s rendition of the classic comedy will reflect the current times and bring a new spin to the show with an all African-American cast portraying the Sordid Lives family members for the first time in the show’s history! The idea to switch up the cast came through conversations between playwright Del Shores and director Jacob Demlow, and together they came up with the updates of the classic show made especially for Out Front’s production. As an added bonus, playwright Del Shores will be in town to see Out Front’s spin on his campy classic comedy on Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20, and will host special talk-back sessions afterward.

Many gay men suffer from loneliness because they fear and have trouble connecting with other gays. If you’re having trouble finding other gays to connect with, here are some tips for where you can find new gay friends.
1. DATING APPS Dating apps are what you make of them. You can use them for a lot more than finding dates or one-night stands. Many people find jobs or friends using apps such as Grindr, Jack’d, Tinder, etc. Message guys based off of what their profile says and not what their picture looks like. Starting a convo based on your common interests is a great way to initiate a potential friendship.
2. CLUBS Gay clubs are also more than just gathering spots to get wasted and find guys to go home with. Muster up the courage to approach someone to simply start
a conversation. If you’re alone and they’re also alone, that’s a great way to connect since no one wants to be at the club alone. Most people at the club by themselves are desperately hoping someone will approach them to talk, so they feel less awkward. If you don’t want to be lonely, make the first move and make a new friend.
3. SOCIAL MEDIA With all the hashtags, likes, and following going on social media it’s easier than ever to connect with others. Search for guys in your city, or go down the rabbit hole of liking pics based on hashtags, which leads you to a dozen guys different pages. Slide into someone’s DMs and get the conversation flowing. Many gay men do suffer from narcissism thinking anyone
messaging them must be hitting on them, but if you find someone that’s friendly and not cocky, you could end up finding a great new friendship from Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and so on.
4. WORK No one ever wants to be the only homo in the office, or whatever environment you work in. Chances are you aren’t the only gay in the workplace. Sniff out the others by any means necessary. Sometimes you can find them as soon as you turn on Grindr. Connect. Work is so much more fun when you have a friend, and it’s easier to connect with friends you have something in common with. Like being the only gays in the workplace.

Standing Up for Gay Georgians Within just a few months, Gay Georgia (GAGA) has made their mark as a political action committee and is already deeply involved in causes close their mission of protecting LGBTQ rights and preserving cultural landmark and business locations that are important to the identity of gay Georgians. Peach had the chance to talk to the group about origins, causes, and upcoming events.

What is Gay Georgia, and how did the idea come about?
In speaking with some LGBT business owners, we have learned that many have been subject to frivolous lawsuits and intimidation, preventing them from being successful and serving our community. By being a PAC, and utilizing the vote of our community, we can put pressure on elected officials to hear our voice.
One evening, a group of us were having dinner and discussing the issues facing our city and state. We realized that, even though we have some great organizations like Georgia Equality, HRC, and GLAAD, we were missing a group whose sole focus is to protect and preserve the identity and culture of Gay Georgia.
What are some of the things Gay Georgia (GAGA) is doing? We are a PAC, and recently registered with the state. Gay Georgia is aligning our efforts to protect existing LGBT businesses. We are working to expand our presence across the state. One of our goals is to open an LGBT bistro at the airport, and also provide environments for our community by hosting free events for our members throughout the year.
What is next on the schedule? On May 20, Gay Georgia is co-sponsoring DRENCH 2018 with I Am Midtown at the pool at the W Downtown. Admission is free for all GAGA members. We’ll have DJs, giveaways and special guests. Plus, great cocktails and food. And the W is providing your towel free of charge. You can’t beat it.
Tell us about this Gay Bistro idea. Our idea is - from the first time someone steps foot in our city - that Atlanta should show how welcoming and inclusive we really are. One

What are some the issues you’ve encountered that you want to address?
What are some of the challenges GAGA is already facing as you get started? Being brand new - barely three months old - it’s always challenging to express our mission in an environment filled with so many other worthy causes. That’s why we’re focused on showing our community why the need or GAGA is so critical, and what makes us, and our work, different from others. Just look around you, particularly with elections in the near future. We are clearly losing ground, and for the first time in many years, moving backward instead of forward. Now is the time to join us, and stand up for yourself, your friends, and all the things you love about our community.
How can someone connect and get involved? We are proud to say that we are building one of the strongest boards in our community, and we will be introducing the board to our community in June. #PinkPeach Highlights from Atlanta Film Festival 2018 Abu At the intersection of Atlanta’s booming film industry and the diverse, grassroots creative efforts of its citizens is the Atlanta Film Festival. In its fourth decade, the festival (which is one of only two dozen Academy Awards-qualifying festivals) was stacked this year with nearly 200 films and a cumulative 25,000-member audience throughout the ten day affair. Aside from some big-name films headlining the festival like Jason Reitman’s Tully and Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade (my personal favorite from the festival), AFF17 placed a particular spotlight on its inclusive line up, where 70% of the films in the festival were directed by a woman, person of color, a member of the LGBTQ+ community, or all three. In other words, the minorities were the vast majority in the Atlanta Film Festival, and that feels really good.
Directed by and starring Arshad Khan, Abu is a story as old as time, but told in a quasi-documentary fashion. As the Atlanta Film Festival describes it, “Using home videos and classic Bollywood films, Khan crafts an intimate portrait of his Pakistani-Muslim family grappling with the realities of having a gay son in a modern world. Torn between sexuality and religion, tradition and migration, a gay son and his father test the boundaries of love, home, and the meaning of family.” It also screened with the fifteen minute short film Ablution, another touching story about a disabled Muslim father reconciling the coming out of his son.
How can I see it? Abu is currently slowing being released in theaters nationwide, but currently only in very select cities.
To highlight their LGBTQ+ stories and characters, they featured them in the #PinkPeach category. Each of these moving, queer films featured accompanying short films, which were also very queer themselves.
Venus “Having recently embraced her own identity, Sid, a transgender woman, finds herself tangled in a complex web of expectations and aspirations when she discovers she has a 14-year-old son. With new relationships adding to the struggle of culture, religion, and romance in Sid’s journey to acceptance, everyone’s in for a wild ride. Venus also screened with the short film Umbrella, directed by Rhys Ernst. Against the backdrop of rising anti-trans legislation, Umbrella chronicles the stories of four transgender individuals across America united in their passion to create change.”
How can I see it? Venus is making the rounds at festivals internationally, but no word yet on public distribution.

Mermaids
Lean on Pete
“All throughout the United States, there exists a vibrant and mythical subculture dedicated to the existence of real life mermaids. In the exploration of the history and present of this peculiar passion, Mermaids takes us on a journey into the lives of five incredible women who spend their free time, and sometime work hours, donning full-size tails at pools, beaches, and bars. In watching them transform into the sea-creatures of their dreams, we gain beautiful insight into the complicated lives of women who differ in every way but are drawn to the same ideal of unearthly beauty and freedom.The film also screened with the short Pink Dolphin, a story about the one and only Pink Dolphin living in the ocean looking for his companions and trying to survive from the assaults and taunts of other sea creatures.”
Although Lean on Pete isn’t particularly queer, you’re likely familiar with director Andrew Haigh’s previous, very gay work such as the classic romance film Weekend and the HBO show Looking, which ran for two seasons and a feature-length finale. Pete is a road trip movie, but with a horse. It tells the story of a young man and an aging racehorse named Lean On Pete in search for a new home. Starring Charlie Plummer and Steve Buscemi, this

Man Made Lastly, it was the Trans* community that stole the whole festival. In fact, Man Made made its premiere at AFF 2018. It made such a big splash, it was awarded Best Documentary. Locally made in Georgia and directed by T Cooper, Man Made is about the world’s only all-transgender bodybuilding competition. What precedes this triumphant moment for four trans male bodybuilders are a set of personal and diverse journeys taken on the path to self-identity and empowerment. Told through the intimate and honest lens of a trans filmmaker, this documentary intertwines the nuances of manhood, the drive for social justice, and the competitive desire to forge our own paths and be our personal best.
The Atlanta Film Festival is a wonderful experience where your involvement whether as a viewer, volunteer, or filmmaker could make an impact on a person’s life and artistic perspective in some way. If you missed it this year, or didn’t see enough (like me), make it a priority. Celebrating culture, art, and diversity though our strongest storytelling medium will never not be important. You never know, you may get inspired to go out and make something for yourself.
How can I see it? Man Made is making its festival rounds for the next several months, but keep an eye out for a more wide release later this year!

Tequila, Get Into It By: Casey Deyton
Oh, tequila, what memories we have. Some good, a few bad, but mostly gone, blank, a blackout night at some college party. If your first memories of tequila are similar to those of mine, sitting in a car with your best friend chugging Cuervo trying to get up the nerve to talk to your crush. I have news for you; there is so much more to this fabulous world of tequila.
Tequila Basics Tequila by law comes from only five regions of Mexico. It’s made by first cooking, shredding, and then pressing the hearts of the agave plant (not a cactus, btw). The juice is fermented, distilled, and then aged. The aging process is what gives distinction to silver, reposado, and añejo tequila. To find a quality tequila, look at the label for 100% Agave or 100% Blue Agave. Not all tequila will be 100% Agave; some have other additives like molasses. These tequilas are known as mixto tequila and will simply state “Tequila” on the bottle. Think of our old favorite friend, Cuervo Gold.
Corzo
Silver or Blanco - aged for no more than two months. It’s the purest form of tequila, great for a shot or cocktail Reposado - aged for 2 to 12 months in oak. Has a golden hue and is perfect for a shot or a cocktai Maestro Dobel Diamante
Añejo - aged 1-3 years in small oak barrels. It is darker than reposados and is ideal for sipping. Extra Añejo - aged over three years. It’s the most expensive and is definitely one to sip.

Why You Should Be Into Tequila It’s Amazing There are so many different varieties and unique taste profiles to discover. One of my favorites is a pink reposado with strong notes of chocolate (Asombroso La Rosa). An Upper Not a Debbie Downer It’s said that tequila, unlike other spirits, is an upper, not a depressant. This, however, is not scientifically proven. Tequila is still alcohol (ethanol) which is technically a depressant. However, it will most certainly lift your mood.
Hangovers Be Gone Drinking a quality tequila, without a mess of mixers, will definitely alleviate the next day nightmare. It’s Good For You Tequila typically has fewer calories, simple sugars break down easier in your bloodstream, stimulates appetite, and has cholesterol-lowering attributes. Makes an Excellent Gift A great quality tequila makes the perfect gift. Most likely they won’t have one, and the bottles are beautiful and true works of art.
Alternative Margaritas (Alterna-Ritas) Frozen Pineapple Margarita A Handful Ice Cubes A Handful of Fresh/Frozen Pineapple Juice of 1-2 Limes 2 ½ oz of Ginger Syrup 3 oz Tequila Add all ingredients to blender, blending until smooth. Enjoy in a salted glass.

French Margarita
1 ½ oz Tequila ¾ oz Grand Marnier ½ oz each: Lime Juice, Orange Juice, Sweet and Sour ¾ oz of Chambord Add tequila, Grand Marnier, lime juice, orange juice, sweet & sour mixer and ice. Shake well then pour over ice in a margarita glass. Top with Chambord. Garnish with blackberries and raspberries.
1 ½ oz Tequila 1 ½ oz Fresh Lime Juice ½ oz Fresh OJ ½ oz Water 2 Teaspoons Agave Nectar Add ingredients to shaker, with ice, shake well and pour over ice. Option: Add fresh fruit puree

Although tequila is a liquor favorite, it also has the worst reputation when it comes to hangovers – as you may have experienced on your own body; tequila hangovers are ROUGH! Even though you may feel closer to death than life the day after, there are remedies, that will help cure (or at least ease) your pain. Don’t worry; you won’t die even though you may feel like it – you’ll just regret it …
Water Treatment
Eat Something (Light) Once you feel like consuming solids, eat something light that won’t bombard your system with calories and grease in the first round. Wait and see if your body agrees with the food, and once you feel fit for it, you can go all out with the greasy, messy, salty food.
At best, you start drinking water while you are consuming tequila, but who are we kidding. The day after, drink a cup of water per tequila drink or shot you had – yes, it’s a lot of water, and you don’t need to drink it all at once, but it will help flush out toxins. And at least try to drink water before going to sleep.
Breathe Deep Increased oxygen to your brain and body will help you become more clear-headed, so concentrate on breathing deep.
Make It Fizz Take an alka-seltzer which will efficiently settle your upset stomach and deal with the extra stomach acid – plus it will add to your water consumption.

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

In January 2018, Elton John announced that he would be retiring from touring. His three-year farewell concert tour is sure to be one of the biggest musical events incontemporary pop music history. The release of the double disc hits compilation Diamonds (Rocket/Island/UMe) preceded the announcement by a couple of months. At 34 tracks, Diamonds does a good job of representing the first 10 years of Elton’s career on the first disc. However, things go awry on the second disc, especially since this represents a much longer period, 1980 to the present day, a time when the hits were somewhat less plentiful. Because it covers almost more 36 years, during which he released more than 15 studio albums, as well as significant movie soundtracks and original cast recordings, there are obvious exclusions. Nevertheless, as updated collections go, Diamonds sparkles. Arriving six years after his debut EP, Jason Gould’s first full-length album Dangerous Man (Qwest), is a safe, but solid disc. Gould, the gay son of Barbra Streisand and Elliott Gould, holds his own throughout the record, performing originals and cover tunes. A couple of the songs from the EP, “Morning Prayer” and “This Masquerade”, have made their way onto the full-length. His covers of “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, “For All We Know” and “The Way You 20 | 05.02.18
Look Tonight” are all pleasing to the ear. “The Stranger”, co-written with Marilyn and Alan Bergman, the couple responsible for some of Streisand’s biggest hits, could be the sole nod to Gould’s mother. Also notable are collaborations with legendary lesbian songwriter Marsha Malamet, including “One Day” and “All’s Forgiven”. Let’s face it, Sam Smith is the gay male Adele. If anything, his new album The Thrill of It All (Capitol) only seals the deal. It’s an unavoidable comparison, especially when Smith opens the disc with a heart-tugging ballad such as “Too Good At Goodbyes”. The gospel-style choir is also a nice touch. The biggest difference between the new disc and Smith’s award-winning debut In The Lonely Hour is the way that ballads dominate. There’s nothing here like “Money On My Mind”, “Like I Can”, “Restart” or even “La La La”. That’s not necessarily a bad thing as “Say It First”, “Him”, “Burning”, “Palace” and the religious experience of “Pray” (cue gospel choir), demonstrate that Smith knows his strengths. Awe-inspiring gay singer/songwriter Jim Andralis released his solo debut in 2016. Lucky for us, we didn’t have to wait long for the follow-up album. Available on CD and 180-gram gorgeous pink vinyl (with a download code included), Shut Up Shut Up (jimandralismusic.com) by Jim Andralis & The Syntonics exceeds all expectations. With stunning girl-group harmonies provided by The Syntonics (Julie Delano, Leslie Graves, Susan Hwang and Jessie Kilguss, Andralis has a way of saying the things that many of us
think in song. This is best exemplified by “My Therapist Says”, “Don’t Blame New York”, “I’m A Monster”, “Don’t Trust Me”, the server anthem “Cover My Section” and the title cut. Half-Light (Nonesuch),Rostam Batmanglij’s second album since his departure from Vampire Weekend (following I Had a Dream That You Were Mine, his 2016 collaboration with Hamilton Leithauser of The Walkmen) is a radiant musical experience, varied and thrilling. Recording as Rostam, the gay musician has created an awe-inspiring quilt of musical styles and genres that fit together as if they were always meant to be in the same song or on the same album. “Bike Dream” is a sexy, queer number that should be on everyone’s playlist. “Don’t Let It Get To You” marries African rhythms with glitchy tech to create an irresistible excuse for dancing. “Gwan” and the title cut are simply exquisite. Patrick Boothe, a gay, Austin-based singer/ songwriter returns with You Have To Believe We Are Tragic (patrickboothe.com). The title may sound like a parody of the Olivia Newton-John song “Magic”, but the material is serious. Boothe wanted the album “to reflect what it may be like for one to fall in love while working through depression and anxiety”. This definitely comes across on the songs “Matter”, “Untouchable”, “Living Man”, “Good People” and “Do Better”. In
recent years, musical genres you might not think of as being particularly welcoming to out, gay men, say country, metal or jazz, for example, have begun to change in beneficial ways. Even the blues, perhaps the last
vestige of the straight male musician, has an openly gay artist in its ranks with harmonica player Jason Ricci. Over the course of 11 songs clocking in at 77 minutes, Approved By Snakes(Eller Soul) by Jason Ricci & The Bad Kind confirms that Ricci (and his band) are a blues force to be reckoned with. Unlike the blues, dance music has long been the province of gay men, as both performers and fans. On Celebrate (Burning Tyger), Win Marcinak blends covers (Three Dog Night’s “Celebrate”, Sylvester’s “Disco Heat/Mighty Real”, Kajagoogoo’s “Too Shy”, and Aretha’s “Rock Steady”) with originals. Ulla Hedwig, one of Bette Midler’s original Harlettes, sings with Marcinak on “We Are What We Are”. Finally, musical theater has played and continues to play an important role in the lives of gay men. Three recent cast recordings feature significant contributions from gay men. The late Howard Ashman was not only behind the Broadway musical Little Shop of Horrors, but he also helped to revive Disney’s animated musical with blockbusters such as The Little Mermaid and Aladdin. The first collaboration by Ashman and Alan Menken, Kurt Vonnegut’s God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater (Ghostlight), has finally made its way to CD on the premiere cast recording featuring James Earl Jones, Skylar Astin and Santino Fontana. Creative and personal partners Dan Martin and Michael Biello collaborated with Jennifer Robbins on Marry Harry: Original Off-Broadway Cast Recording (MarryHarry.com) about the intersection of love and food. Zombie Bathhouse features a book by Brian Kirst and music and lyrics by Scott Free. Fans of Free’s may recognize some of the music from having heard them on his own solo albums.

To “Infinity” and Beyond Photo: Marvel Studios/Disney With super-villains such as Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, Bashar al-Assad and Kim Jung Un wreaking havoc on the planet, it’s getting more difficult to take Marvel’s evil creations seriously. This has never been truer than in the case of “Avengers: Infinity War” (Marvel) and its Trump/Putin/Assad/Kim-like malefactor, Thanos (Josh Brolin), the very personification of death (see the Greek). When we last saw our avenging angels they had been torn asunder by a civil war as well as government restrictions. However, Thanos is on a bloody and ruthless rampage to collect the Infinity Stones (Soul, Time, Space, Mind, Reality, Power) to adorn his couture glove and give him the tools he needs to rule the universe and eliminate all who stand in his way. Thanos, as you may recall, is related to Nebula (Karen Gillan) and the adoptive father of Gamora (Zoe Saldana), of “Guardians of the Galaxy” renown. Neither Nebula nor Gamora is particularly fond of the gigantic father figure and both want to see him dead. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is also determined to see Thanos demolished after the behemoth killed his brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and beat the hammer-wielder to a pulp and left him for dead. This is one example how brothers and co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo, along with screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, stitch together the death shroud that is “Avengers: Infinity War”; by bringing together disparate characters from the MCU. In the spirit of “hail, hail, the gang’s all here”, those also fighting Thanos include Captain America (Chris Evans), Ironman (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Vision (Paul Bettany), Spiderman (Tom Holland), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), War Machine (Don Cheadle), White Wolf/Winter Soldier (Sebastian
By Gregg Shapiro Stan) and assorted others. Of course, Thanos doesn’t work alone, either. He’s joined by Proxima Midnight (Carrie Coon), Ebony Maw (Tom Vaughan-Lawlor) and Corvus Glave (Michael James Shaw). If your mind wandered after reading that list – it will do the same many times during the movie. “Avengers: Infinity War” wants to be funny like Deadpool (possibly the only MCU character not present and accounted for) or the “Guardians of the Galaxy” series, but this only acts as distraction. It’s like Britney’s dance moves and back-up dancers trying to distract you from the fact that she can’t, you know, actually sing. As you no doubt expect, there are OTT specialeffects, and this might be the one place where the movie actually excels. Nevertheless, the fight sequences do go on way too long, and don’t be surprised if yourself yelling at the screen to “turn down that racket!” Trigger warning spoiler alert: the utterly unsatisfying ending, which features almost every single Avenger disintegrating into thin air, is sure to have fanboys and fangirls clutching their pearls and shrieking (it certainly did at the screening this reviewer attended). Additionally, “A: IW” is guilty of post-credits scene abuse, particularly when many audience members still haven’t revived from the earlier shock. Finally, here’s some non-fanboy food for thought: for all the time these actors spend behind masks and under heavy make-up, why aren’t these Marvel (read: Disney) movies honoring the source material and being made as cartoons? Also, does anyone else miss the other Avengers, Emma Peel and John Steed? You can go to the box office and demand a refund, but you’ll never get the two and a half hours back.

Or Queens of the Stone Age, Rock Music, and Why I Love Dick So Much By Scott King
Sometimes I wonder if I will ever be able to find someone to suck all of my dicks. There’s dicks in outer space. There’s dicks in limbo. Dicks in heaven. Dicks in Hell. Dicks in my ear. Dicks in my mouth. There’s dicks in my brain, and dicks on my mind. Dicks are everywhere. Dicks dicks dicks dicks dicks. So many dicks. Dicks. All these queens tho. Josh Homme, the lead singer and dynamic rhythm guitarist of Queens of the Stone Age, isn’t very attractive. Looking. I do not want to have sex with him. However, if he came into my room and was just sitting there quietly, I would shrug and say, “Come get on this dick.” There would be a pause. Then he would nod consent. He would give me a blow job, and then he would let me fuck him, but he probably wouldn’t enjoy it very much. He’s used to life’s prostitutorial disappointments. He understands that there is a lot of compromise and bombast in public life. He also knows that you get used to the taste, but that the rage is ever fresh. I bet you he would suck all of my dicks. He’s really good at everything he does. His band succeeds at taking the terrified masculine energy of Nirvana and mixing it with the slinky feminine energy of Queen. And Sleater-Kinney. Those power chords and lea guitars interweave as if they were written and played by cisgendered bisexual females. It’s exhilarating. Rumor has it he named his band Queens of the Stone Age to subvert the inherent machismo and heteronormativity of hard rock. Notice the less-than-subtle allusion to priapic phallocentrism in the phrase “hard rock.” Dang. I’m getting excited. I love rock. And cock. But normally the dudes in rock bands are so fucking ugly. And their songs rarely make me want to sleep with them. Most of the ones I want to bone are the ones who are either queer or androgynous or just fucked up and pretty.

Michael Stipe. Morrissey. Billy Pumpkin. Jake Shears. Kurt Cobain. Tupac Shakur. And okay, I’ll admit it; that guy from Third Eye Blind. Did you know “Semi-Charmed Life” is about crystal meth? I saw Queens of the Stone Age at Music Midtown in 2013. It was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. I can’t remember what song it was, but they put up this graphic that was basically themed along the lines of Hot Babes in Outer Space. It was sketched out in graphic novel quality pencil drawings of voluptuous, hippy females, very 70’s, with interstellar lightning bolts connecting their belly buttons. It was arched backs, pathos, and ambiguity. The whole scene made me want to WANT to fuck women. Beautiful women. In outer space. At the festival, my friends abandoned me to go watch the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I hear they’re really good live. So I made friends with two cute young ladies and a decent looking redheaded guy standing next to me. After a little bit of chat about how much we were into the band, dude said, “Yeah, if I actually were gay, Josh Homme would be my God and my lover.” “You’re not gay???” I mused. His friends unsuccessfully stifled a few hardy chuckles. He seemed a little gay. “So, THAT’S why we haven’t met.” After the show, the girls hugged me sweetly. The guy gave me a fist bump. “Rock on, dude.” I’m pretty sure he was gay. Queens of the Stone Age will be headlining the middle Saturday of the I get so weak in the knees I can hardly speak Shaky Knees Festival on May 5th. That’s Cinco de Mayo. I’m going to be there.

Be Culturally Free By Jamie Kirk
In the spirit of Cinco De Mayo, it’s all about being free. It’s about doing things that go against the grain. It’s about doing things that make people go “yikes, that is weird” or “I can’t believe he/she did that!” Doing things that are outside of your comfort zone, is most definitely the way to go this year. Years are passing by so fast, that to keep saying you are gonna do it next year or the year after that is just prolonging the inevitable - you ain’t gonna do it. Make sure you plan and execute some behaviors that would make you blush (when you muster up the nerve to look back). Everyone is aware that Cinco De Mayo is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army’s unlikely victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla, in 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza. The folks were so surprised and shocked that they took to the streets and celebrated like it was 1999. Well, that analogy may be bad, since that was like 137 years later; but still, they got buck wild. So, in order of doing things that shock people and doing things that require folks to scratch their heads, I think we should go all out and throw caution to the wind. Use this weekend to do crap you judge others for doing. Do things that you may even have to hide out for a few weeks afterward. Do things that are risky (not too risky) and require you to evaluate your “belief system,” if only for a few hours. I don’t want to give recommendations, that is not my place. I don’t even want to give suggestions. I don’t even want to talk about boundaries and limitations. Life is way too short to continually live restricted because we are concerned about what others may think, what others may see or what others may say. Do it for YOU. Learn to be culturally free. Lean into your cultural, whatever that may be. Do something that is culturally freeing. Do something that is culturally unacceptable and questionable. I would not recommend anything that is demeaning or embarrass36 | 05.02.18
ing to you or your cultural, but definitely something that your friends and family would say “wow,” simply “wow.” When we think about how overwhelmed and shocked we can be when something happens that we didn’t expect, we tend to shy away from what we said we would do IF that thing happened. If I get into the college of my choice, I’ll study really hard. If I get that job I want, I will save more than I spend. If I get that partner I want, I won’t cheat. I think just this one time of year, we go batshit crazy and do the opposite of normal stuff. Again, no examples will be given. Think about the Mexican Army and how they had no idea that they would or could win the war. Take that thought process with you this weekend (JUST this weekend) and make yourself proud of winning the war. Whatever that war is or was. Could be a fight you won to be healthy. A fight you won to be promoted at work. A fight you won to remain faithful, despite the temptation of others. A fight to get along with your parents. Doesn’t matter, think about a battle you won, think about your heritage, think about your individuality, think about the sacrifices you made to get where you are and just get crazy for once. As you decide what you are going to do inappropriately for the upcoming weekend and how you are going to honor, yet get crazy acknowledging your cultural heritage; remember we only get one shot at this life. Don’t do anything life-threatening (obviously) but take a minute and plan out how you can stop attempting to be perfect and throw out the rules and color outside the lines. Be like the citizens out in the streets celebrating their historic win, when all along they thought for sure they would have to hang their heads low. Stop planning for defeat. My partner is not interested in having sex at all, and except for the occasional cuddle, we don’t have much contact except for fixing up the yard or working on the house. He even encourages me to go have sex with others, and we are at a point now where I have started to act on that - first as a means to get a reaction out of him, but now because I really think don’t he cares anymore, and I need that in my life too.Are we just waiting for something else to come along?

Some grow into a stronger and deeper love, while others become just that; companionship. Fine for some, unbearable for others. It is time you both start to assess what you want - or don’t want - out of the relationship. Agree to do some thinking on your own and then meet for a fair and honest discussion of what you really want. In case this is difficult, seeing a therapist can be very helpful to guide you both in the right direction. Dear Settle Down Now Don’t think so much alternative, but rather compromise. I’m sure your boyfriend isn’t thrilled to have you tag along as the jealous guy who wants to go home. On the other hand, you’re not pleased that he doesn’t just want to spend a night at home with you. So compromise! But in that compromise, you need to work on why you have strong feelings of jealousy towards him, and then you need to work on how you can build enough trust so you won’t be jealous of him going out on his own. Building trust works wonders on how people interact with each other, and funnily enough: trust nurtures even deeper trust! Try it! It works!
I’m a drag performer, and I love it, but it is such a man shunner in the sense that when in drag, no one wants to hit on you, and when guys find out it’s me out of drag, they’re suddenly not interested anymore. I don’t want to conceal who I am, but sometimes it’s just easier to omit the fact that I do drag to get laid! How can I break this unfortunate cycle?
