From the Editor It’s just like Madonna says: Music makes the people come together – and here on the cusp of summer, Atlanta is overflowing with music whether it is a festival, party weekend, concert, DJ gig, new releases, or the best possible playlist for the pool party. So this issue of Peach is dedicated to all of the above that together make up the soundtrack to your summer. We feature DJ Ariel Zetina, whose dark and danceable music style will have you twirling the night away when she headlines this month’s Deep South party on June 16, and we talked to a powerful duo in the queer underground music scene, Adam Joseph, and Zach Adam, about their new collaboration, Gravity. Gregg Shapiro guides you to some of the voices from the past that are popping up in the present with new releases, and to enjoy all of that music we also recommend a few audio accessories that will blast your summer’s soundtrack in style. And of course, we put together a list of the jams that we think will kick off your summer in the best possible way. That and so much more packed in this issue, so I hope you enjoy, Peaches!

THE STAGES OF A BREAKUP By Branden Lee Branden Lee is a writer and actor now living in Atlanta. Follow Branden on Twitter and Instagram @Brandeness and watch him on his YouTube channel SexxxPerTease.
10 | 06.13.18
It seems like everyone has been breaking up lately, and although it can feel like the end of the world, it isn’t. Breakups hurt. Loss feels real. We mourn. We also come out of it on the other side. We all go through these stages, but never lose hope that you’ll find the strength to love again.
1. DEVASTATION
3. CONTENTMENT
5. CRUSH
The damage occurs. The breakup happens. Your love is gone. You’re left wondering why. How could this have happened? How could we go from so in love and planning a future, to enemies or feeling like strangers?
The healing process begins. You start to feel normal again without your ex. You get back into old hobbies and interests you were once neglecting. Reconnecting with friends, you may not have had much time for while coupled up. Content is where you start to find yourself again and feel normal without your old love.
When you finally have a new crush, is when you start to truly know you’ll love again. When a new crush gets you excited, fills you with hope, and possibilities of new love, you are almost fully over your ex. Imagining the possibilities with someone else and knowing your ex isn’t the only one for you is a powerful feeling
2. GRIEF It takes time for the feeling of loss to really set in. Your partner is gone. No one to share a bed with. No one to go on dates with. Every part of your house is full of memories of them. Loneliness is seeping in. The desire to text your ex, and try to get back together is strong and a struggle to resist. Grief is the most dangerous stage of a breakup because it’s the easiest place to get sucked back into a relationship that deep down, you may know, you’re better without.
4. SLUT PHASE It happens. You will crave human contact, affection, desire, sex. Slut phases occur. It’s time to put yourself back out there and go on as many dates and have as many hookups as possible. It’s natural to want to feel desired and wanted.

Hatters Get Ready To Get Wacky! By Mik Hyldebrandt
One may see parades of people walking to the Piedmont Park Visitors Center on Saturday evening June 16 sporting a variety of hats: wacky, super cool, fun, and fabulous. Tell us a little about the background for the Wacky Hat Party? Similar to the way that For the Kids’ Toy Party began years ago in an in-town home, the Hat Party started as a private home event approximately 11 years ago. Beginning this year, it will be a premier fundraising event expecting hundreds of guests – and promises to be an over the top spectacular party!
What are some of the spectacular elements of the party from previous years? People began to flock to the party even before it was a fundraiser not only because of the electrifying music, fancy dancing, and delicious hors-d’oeuvres, but live mermaids in the pool, Spiderman climbing from the roof, Vegas girls wearing champagne-filled flutes in their skirts, and front-yard trees that reached out and scared the guests. Hats have included Ferris wheels, personally-designed lamp shades, live plants, and mannequin heads.
This year the party is hosted by For the Kid in All of Us – tell us about that? I decided that I wanted the hat party to benefit a very worthy cause, so I asked For the Kid to adopt and host it at Piedmont Park, as I am now serving as one of the lead volunteers.
What can people expect from the party this year? The party will as always be a spectacular affair. One can expect amusing entertainment, delicious hors-d’oeuvres, the fabulous sounds of Deejay Jay McCracken (Kraax) – and, of course, hats better than ever!
12 | 06.13.18
It’s a Wacky Hat Party – what’s required to attend? Naturally, you must wear a hat - preferably as creative, wacky, cool, or fabulous as possible. Or just your favorite hat. There is a minimum $10 donation to For the Kid to be paid at the door (cash, check or CC) or online at www.forthekid.org, which provides you with a party entrance pass, two drink tickets, and hors-d’oeuvres. If you donate $25 or more at the door, you get a VIP entrance pass, which gives you an open bar, hors-d’oeuvres, and a gift bag. The Wacky Hat Party Saturday, June 16, 6:30 p.m. – 11 p.m. The Piedmont Park Visitors Center (overlooking Clara Meer dock near 12th St. gate at Piedmont Park, Atlanta)

I break into dance whenever the mood and music move me. I won’t let my HIV rob me of anything in life. I know that staying in care and on treatment helps me to be the best mother, wife, and HIV prevention educator I can be. I tell other HIV-positive women: All the fear that you have can be overcome. With “The Misandrists” (Cartilage Films), gay filmmaker Bruce La Bruce moves away from the accessibility of 2013 “Gerontophilia” and returns to the graphic sexuality and violence of earlier films such as “L.A. Zombie” and “Otto; or, Up with Dead People”. “The Misandrists” is unmistakably a Bruce La Bruce movie; landing somewhere between Jeff Baena’s “The Little Hours” and “The Beguiled” (if it had been directed by John Waters instead of Sofia Coppola). Set in 1999 at a girls’ school “somewhere in Ger(wo)many”, “The Misandrists” opens with classmates and comrades Isolde (trans actress Kita Updike) and Hilde (Olivia Kundisch), sharing affections and romping through a field on the campus grounds. Injured Volker (Til Schindler), a male thief on the run from the police, emerges from the woods and asks them for help. Breaking every imaginable rule, Isolde and Hilde sneak Volker onto the property and lock him away in the basement. In another part of the building, two other female students are watching gay porn. It’s a combination of aversion therapy and training for the lesbian porn film they have been assigned to make in the separatist stronghold in which they live and receive training in the cause of Female Liberation under the guidance of Big Mother (Susanne Sachsse). The Female Liberation Army, which grew out of lesbian love, plans to take men out of the equation altogether in the name of Womancipation. Big Mother’s young charges, “at the height of robustness and vitality for the task ahead”, all came to the “halfway house for troubled girls” for 14 | 06.13.18

various reasons. Many were sexually abused, others dabbled in drugs and lives of crime. A couple of them have mysterious pasts, but before long we learn all that we need to know about them. Even though Big Mother doesn’t approve of it, jealousy abounds on campus. This kind of tension results in a series of revelations, including secrets about gender identity, a spy in the house of love, and of course, the presence of a wounded man in the basement. Once Volker’s involuntary (and explicit) gender reassignment surgery is complete and the FLA’s lesbian orgy porn flick “Pornutopia” is complete, the revolution begins with a screening in a movie theater with an unwitting audience of hostages. La Bruce doesn’t necessarily break any new ground here. The setting and even the story are worn out and tired. The presence of a trans character (and actor) does give the movie an immediate and timely feel, but it takes more than that to keep an audience in its seats.
Remember, Miss Andrist is not the name of a man-hating drag queen.

Amplifying Gravity By Paul Hutnick
Multi-talented out musicians Zach Adam and Adam Joseph are uniting on their first single and fans will not be able to escape their “Gravity.” Written by the powerhouse duo and produced by Zach, “Gravity” is a soaring pop track about yearning to overcome addiction and depression. It features Adam Joseph’s soulful tenor vocals over lush synths, sweeping choruses, and intense percussion. It is the first release from Zach Adam’s new LGBTQ music label, Magic Town Media, as well as the first single from his upcoming album, and the remix package features incredible dance versions by DJ Pacifico, GSP, Max Grandon, Melodika, Angelino Loren, Pumpkin Spice, Thiago and Adam Joseph.
16 | 06.13.18
How did you guys come together on “Gravity”?
What should fans know about Adam Joseph?
Zach Adam: Adam and I have been collaborating for years as songwriters.
Zach Adam: Adam is way too humble. He’s the true musical prodigy. Have you heard his viral smash, “Linda Evangelista,” featuring Aja from RuPaul’s Drag Race? It’s amazing. Also, Adam’s voice is golden, and it really shines on Gravity. All of the backup vocals were recorded by him, and you can hear how expert he is at recording big choirs and sophisticated harmonies. In the studio, he and I would listen to the big choir oooooh part on loop because we liked it so much.
Adam Joseph: We started writing together when I was still living in NYC. We’ve had songs recorded by other artists. “Gravity” was the first to come along that was right for me to sing.
What is the song about? Adam Joseph: At first, it was written as a love/break up song. Zach Adam: I was fresh out of a relationship and Adam, and I were going over the idea of love being like a force of nature.
But, somehow, the song took on a whole new meaning… Adam Joseph: After listening back to the first recordings, a new feeling began to emerge. It became about overcoming addiction and the yearning to break free from someone or something.
How have the issues of addiction and depression impacted your lives? Zach Adam: As an artist, I feel things deeply. I think I can speak for both of us when I say we’ve had experience dealing with suicide in our lives, both personally and with people we love.
Adam Joseph: Can I add one thing for anyone out there who doesn’t already know? Zach’s an Instagram thirst trap. Check out his page @zachadammusic. While we were shooting the music video for Gravity, he gave me some pointers on how to up my Instagram game.
How long did it take you to shoot the powerful music video for Gravity? Zach Adam: We shot it in two days. Adam flew to NYC from Los Angeles, and we got right to work!
Who developed the intricate plot for the music video? Adam Joseph: I presented the concept of “unsuccessful suicide attempts” as a metaphor for trying to repress emotions or kill feelings instead of reaching out for a lost love that you are better off living without. The concept of moving on was also a part of transitioning into another place or plane which also shared a parallel with the idea of life and death.
What was the hardest scene to shoot?
Adam Joseph: I went through a serious battle with addiction and depression. It took me many years to work through the worst of it, and I still am fighting with it today. As with most of life’s biggest problems, I don’t think it’s something that I will ever completely get over, but music has always been a major force in keeping me moving forward.
Adam Joseph: The scene where I put my face on the Brooklyn sidewalk. Imagining the dirty shoes and dogs that have walked on that cement and done their business was very unsettling. I sucked it up and did what I had to do.
Is that what you hope “Gravity” does for listeners?
It’s appreciated. The world needs songs like “Gravity” right now.
Adam Joseph: I hope “Gravity” raises awareness and gives comfort to those who need to hear it most. Zach Adam: I hope the song takes away some of the stigmas of depression and suicide. No one should be afraid to admit they need help. When it’s out of the dark, change might happen.
What should fans know about Zach Adam? Adam Joseph: He does it all. He’s a songwriter, producer, instrumentalist, singer, photographer, music video producer… He kind of reminds me of myself except way better than me at everything.
Zach Adam: Agreed. We need more thought-provoking music; songs that empower people when they are feeling down. Adam Joseph: Songs that open conversations around hard topics like addiction, depression, and suicide. Songs like “Gravity” help people understand that they are not alone in their struggle and they offer hope that we can overcome our obstacles. “Zach Adam Feat. Adam Joseph: Gravity” is available on iTunes. Visit www.zachadam.com.

Voices From The Past By Gregg Shapiro
It’s no exaggeration to say that when Gomez released its debut album in 1998, it didn’t sound like anything else. Newly reissued in an expanded four-disc 20th anniversary edition box set, Bring It On (Virgin), still doesn’t have any comparable recordings to match its unusual sonics. A big factor is the shared vocal duties by Ben Ottewell and Ian Ball. Ottewell’s vocals in particular, alternately warm and ragged, provide the songs with a bluesy soul that is hard to match. This is best exemplified in “Make No Sound”. Songs such as “78 Stone Wobble”, “Whippin’ Picadilly”, “Get Miles”, “Tijuana Lady”, the twangy “Free To Run” and the jazzy “Bubble Gum Years” also provide Gomez with its distinguishing edge. In addition to a 2018 remaster of the original album, the box set includes a disc of remastered single B-sides, a record company demo tape, 4-track recordings, live recordings and more. Avoiding membership in the so-called “27 Club” by three years, Andy Gibb was yet another tragic loss in the pantheon of gone-too-soon pop music deaths. The Very Best of Andy Gibb (Capitol/ UMe) is not the first compilation of the hits of the most attractive of the brothers Gibb, but it is the first time one has been tied to an anniversary (the 30th) of his passing. In addition to his looks (have those been mentioned yet?), Gibb could sing as well as his older siblings and he also co-wrote his notable number one singles “Shadow Dancing” and “(Love Is) Thicker Than Water”. Not surprisingly, his other big hits included here were written (or co-written) by brother Barry and include “I Just Want To Be Your Everything”, “An Everlasting Love”, “(Our Love) Don’t Throw It All Away”, and the Olivia Newton-John duet “I Can’t Help It”. Back when it was a quartet known for its sassy harmonies, En Vogue owned the early `90s. En Vogue’s first two albums Born to Sing and Funky Divas contained a string of dazzling hit singles including “Lies”, “Hold On”, “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It)”, “Free your Mind” and a cover of Curtis

Mayfield’s Sparkle tune “Giving Him Something He Can Feel”. They even teamed up with female rap outfit Salt-N-Pepa for “Whatta Man”. This was also at a time when music videos still held sway and En Vogue took full advantage of the medium. The departure of Dawn Robinson changed the group’s fortunes as they added and removed members. En Vogue returns with the delicious Electric Café (eOne), its first album in 14 (!) years, with an incarnation featuring Cindy Herron, Terry Ellis and Rhona Bennett. Sounding very au courant, En Vogue returns to form with outstanding numbers including “Blue Skies”, “Déjà Vu”, “Reach 4 Me”, “Life”, “Love The Way”, “Have a Seat” (featuring Snoop Dogg) and the title cut. Like En Vogue, Matthew Sweet has a storied past in music. Sweet released a couple of albums for a couple of different labels in the eighties that weren’t met with much fanfare. Everything changed with the 1991 release of his breakthrough album Girlfriend. From the vintage Tuesday Weld pic on the cover to the album’s irresistible string of hit singles including the title tune, “Divine Intervention” and “I’ve Been Waiting”. Sweet maintained the momentum throughout the 1990s. Beginning in 2006, he teamed up with Susanna Hoffs (of the Bangles fame) for a series of Under the Covers album on which they performed renditions of songs from the `60s, `70s and `80s. In 2017, Sweet returned with the solo recording Tomorrow Forever, and has followed it up with Tomorrow’s Daughter (Honeycomb Hideout), both of which sound as strong as the best of Sweet’s earlier work. Standout tracks on Tomorrow’s Daughter include “Ever After”, “I Belong To You”, “Lady Frankenstein”, and “Now Was The Future.” Formerly known as the Grammy Award-winning Les Mystere Des Voix Bulgares, the renamed female choir The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices teams up with Dead Can Dance’s Lisa Gerrard for its first new studio album in two (!) decades, BooCheeMish (Prophecy). It’s a successful pairing, with the incredible voices of the choir members complementing Gerrard’s distinctive wail. Merging the Middle Ages with a contemporary approach, the songs on BooCheeMish, including “Rano Ranila”, “Mani Yanni”, “Yove”, “Unison”, “Tropnitsa” and “Shandai Ya”, have an unexpected immediacy and go a long way in eliminating any language barriers.

This Girl Will Make You Dance
By Mikkel Hyldebrandt
Sources: riotfest.org, Chicago Tribune
Chicago-based Ariel Zetina headlines Deep South this month in her Atlanta debut at the queer underground dance party. As a young, self-taught DJ and music producer, Ariel Zetina is being heralded as the future of club and dance music. And as a trans woman, she has found her identity in the process of expressing herself to the fullest through her music. Ariel Zetina is all about telling a story when she is on the decks or producing her own music. And creating that narrative is precisely what is having people flock to her gigs and parties – because while on the dance floor, you will be taken on a journey. Creating a story through music resonates deeply with the DJ whose own journey to living her life as a trans woman was heavily influenced by music and the queer community in Chicago. When Ariel moved to Chicago in 2008, she was exposed to queer culture and other trans women and finally felt that she could grow into her true identity. With her newfound identity, and with the support of the community, she began producing her own house-and-techno-based music, which resulted in several EP’s

including Witch Hazel’s Godzilla EP (2015) and Cyst (2017). DJing was a natural extension of producing music, and Ariel quickly discovered her talent for building a narrative and creating a transformative space on the dance floor – all from behind the DJ booth. Today Ariel Zetina is resident DJ at Smartbar, a Chicago house music institution, where she hosts the monthly Cubic Zirconia party, and she organizes the Rosebud party at the historic Berlin Nightclub, and Ariel’s Party at the Hideout to name a few of her many engagements. As part of her expanding network of parties, she will be in Atlanta for the next edition Deep South, which will be a perfect match for her desire to take you on a journey on the dance floor and creating a safe space where you can be yourself surrounded by people who understand. So get ready to have this girl make you dance, and see you on the dance floor! Connect with Ariel Zetina on Soundcloud.com/ arielzetina, Twitter, and IG @arielzetina.
Ariel Zetina headlines Deep South on June 16 at the Music Room. Opening sets by Robert Ansley (Deep South/Cardio) and Vicki Powell (Deep South).

Vacation For One, Please By Jamie Kirk
Sun’s out, guns out. Days are longer. People are generally in a better mood. We have five holiday day(s) in the next six months. No winter coats, scarfs or gloves. After hot yoga, you don’t risk pneumonia when running to the car after being in a sweat box. There is no better time than NOW to book a vacation with the most important person in your life - YOU. As we head into vacation season, I am recommending that you don’t even think about it, just book a trip for yourself and go. Don’t ask anyone about their opinion, don’t announce it on social media, and don’t talk yourself out of it. Like Nike tells us, Just Do It. Take a step back from all the hustle and bustle of the political landscape. Take a break from screaming kids or a pet that is demanding attention. Go online, use points, use a companion pass, create a Go Fund Me Page or whatever you need to do; book the trip, book the lodging accommodations and don’t fret over the cost. This is a trip that you can’t afford not to take. Re-charging one’s batteries is very important. Making sure that you have emotional energy, physical energy and mental energy to friends and family, can only happen when your cup runneth over. What’s in the cup is for you, what’s running over is for them. Got it. Taking time for yourself is the key to being available for others. The alone time gives you the time you need to focus on YOUR needs, YOUR wants, YOUR desires and ultimately in silence asking yourself: “Am I living the life I want ?” You can only really answer this question when you take dedicated time out of your day to really ponder upon what that means. Does it mean am I living my best life? Am I following my destiny? Have I considered being single? Is my mate growing with me? Am I settling for a life of mediocrity? Am I trying hard enough? When was the last time I laughed so hard I cried? Am I being kind? Is my life making an impact on others in a positive way? These questions should surface as you carve out this alone time for yourself, in addition to carving out time to respond to them.
30 | 06.13.18
Taking a trip by yourself gives you time to create and adhere to your own agenda. Taking a vacation alone forces you to check off one of your bucket list items and do something you have feared doing, maybe because of judgment from others. You can cut corners if you like, you can go ultra-pricey on stuff if you want, you can even just arrive and stay at the first bread & breakfast that catches your eye. The only criteria I am going to place on this Vacation-of-One Plan is that you silence that inner voice detailing every reason you can’t do this. I am not even going to give the negative thoughts article space by mentioning a few. We shall only invite positive vibes in our planning and ultimate vacation destination. It has been too long since we put our needs first. And you may be thinking “well, actually isn’t a vacation alone a want?”, and I will 100% disagree with you; being alone and being able to strategically think about lives next steps, securing and thinking through a solid and workable Plan B, is indeed a NEED. So go ahead, throw caution to the wind, go someplace you have seen on Instagram and thought ‘wow, that’s beautiful.’ Read the book, meet new people, have a threesome, turn your phone off for 24 hours, write in your journal, start a blog, take in new sights, create new memories, and feel alive in the present moment of your trip. I know a few of you are balking at the idea of an alone vacation because you are married, partnered or dating exclusively. Here’s a helpful hint that will prove to be a win/win for all parties involved. Book YOUR solo vacation such that you still vacation together, but “your” part of the vacation is slated to be a few days before or a few days after - viola, problem solved.

Paolo’s Gelato Paolo’s is a piece of Italy in the middle of VaHi – all flavors are made by Paolo himself after an authentic Italian recipe. And he also makes a dog-friendly gelato so both you and your four-legged friend can cool down in the heat. paolosgelato.com
Zesto’s Another Atlanta staple is the Zesto’s, and we recommend the drive-thru on Piedmont for classic soft-serve ice cream made the old-fashioned way with real cream and traditional flavors like vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate. zestoatlanta.com

Is it me, or does no one disappear in the Bermuda Triangle anymore? Honey, I could care less if you don’t like me – you should worry more about liking yourself!
Me: Let’s do something spontaneous! Him: Like what? Me: Let’s go on a spontaneous trip!
Don’t let someone take advantage of you just because you chose to forgive them.
Him: You don’t even get a spontaneous pretzel… Me: …
Asking for a friend: Beach body is too late, right? Judge me all you want but I love ketchup – and heartburn is a real thing!
I think that bakeries should refuse to make wedding cakes for adulterers. It is with great sadness I must tell you that I don’t like Blueberry Glaze Doughnut from Krispy Kreme!!
The gay agenda today was exhausting, and I didn’t even go to the gym OR brunch!

ARIES (MAR. 21 - APR. 19)
LIBRA (SEP. 23 - OCT. 22)
You need to do whatever it takes to slow down this week—even if that means slamming the brakes on some project that means a lot to you. Things should pick up very soon, but progress this week is false.
Your emotional state is a little difficult to handle right now. See if you can get things together long enough to bow out of any big meetings or appointments. It’s a good self-care time, that’s for sure!
TAURUS (APR. 20 - MAY 20)
SCORPIO (OCT. 23 - NOV. 21)
Open up and take in another perspective—it should be quite valuable to you! It’s a good time for you to step up your efforts to show a friend or loved one that you are totally on their side.
Your social energy has definitely been working for you—it’s a great time to bury the hatchet, make new contacts or even take the first step toward a new romantic entanglement. Why not?
GEMINI (MAY 21 - JUN. 20)
SAGITTARIUS (NOV. 22 - DEC. 21)
Things are a little strained right now, but not so much that you can’t figure it all out. You do need to try a few experiments before you’re likely to know how to proceed, so use your brain!
This is not a good time to bust out the credit cards or to forget about the long-term. If you can boost your savings this month, you are sure to appreciate your foresight in the far-off future.
CANCER (JUN. 21 - JUL. 22)
CAPRICORN (DEC. 22 - JAN. 19)
Other people are more than a little confused lately, and that could mean that they keep misunderstanding you—even when you try to explain yourself! You may want to let it go until next week.
You may feel as if your good energy has been driving you to this week’s big moment. It could be an award or just a hint of praise from exactly the right person, but now you know where to start building.
LEO (JUL. 23 - AUG. 22)
AQUARIUS (JAN. 20 - FEB. 18)
Don’t run off half-cocked right now—you need to absorb the situation fully before you can really make any headway. Check and double-check. Once you know what’s going on, your actions should stick.
This is not a good week for struggles—at least not for you! Try to get your friends and colleagues to back you up, but you may just need to hunker down and wait for a more auspicious day to fight back.
VIRGO (AUG. 23 - SEP. 22)
PISCES (FEB. 19 - MAR. 20)
Your energy is just right for now—especially if you have big plans you want to push forward! Little things should conspire to help you out, so you can expect to meet all goals.
A stroke of good luck is more than it seems to be— though that doesn’t mean you have to get to the bottom of it! You can just enjoy the good energy and give thanks to those who watch out for you.

WHAT happened was . . .
What Happened Was... By Mikkel Hyldebrandt Trouble in the love department? With sex? Or just people in general? Send us your queries, questions, and problems, and you’ll get answers served straight up and with a little ice. So, the last ten guys I have met through various apps have not worked out, and they have all ended the same way: the guys have completely ghosted me. Now I have learned that one of the guys is hooking up with a friend of mine, and that we are going to the same party this upcoming weekend. I really want to confront him about his appalling behavior, but is it ok for me to call him out on his ghosting?
Dear Taking It Straight, The quick answer is: yes, you should stop fooling around with him! See, the thing is that if this arrangement were on equal terms, it would be fine. You could both get your needs covered and be perfectly content with the whole bro-jobbing thing. Except you are not. You want more, and this guy is not willing to do so. You may speculate that he is closeted or bi or whatever, but that doesn’t change the fact that he is not willing to change the dynamics between you. So take care of yourself and your feelings before things turn ugly for you.
Sincerely Friendly Spirit Dear Friendly Spirit, Even though the way all these guys have ended the relation sucks, remember that no one owes you an answer – especially in a situation like this where their silence has made it clear that they are not interested. It is not an elegant or even halfway considerate way of ending things, but if a guy is into you, you will know. And vice versa. Add to that; you are going to be at a party with this guy, alcohol may be involved, so your judgment could be impaired, and a potential confrontation could quickly turn ugly. Ask yourself: do you want to be that guy? Yes, it totally sucks being dumped over and over again, but you also need to ask yourself if you are doing something that may turn guys off. Instead of lashing out, take the time to do some soul-searching to find out what you really want and need. Maybe it is taking things slower and not date at a rapid pace? Perhaps you also need to be available for a deeper connection. Whatever you do, confronting the guy is not a good idea.
I have hooked up with my straight friend a few times now. Or rather, we get drunk, he gets horny, and I blow him. He is very hot and my type in many ways, and even though I enjoy the arrangement, I am wondering if we can do more. When I asked him if he would be up for more he said no because he is straight. So my question is: Should I stop hooking up with him?
Sincerely Taking It Straight 60 | 06.13.18
I have been hurt before. Sometimes even deeply. So I have decided to stay single and free to avoid getting hurt. But somehow that is catnip to guys because they are flocking and they all get upset when I continuously keep it casual and don’t engage too much. Even my friends are telling me to be open for love and not shut things down the moment they turn more serious. Am I selfish for being forever single?
Sincerely New Single Out Now Dear New Single Out Now, There is nothing wrong with making a conscious decision to stay single for a while. It can be instrumental in coming to terms with events in the past, obtaining personal goals, or becoming more grounded. Because, you know, you can’t love someone if you don’t love yourself and all that. If you’re doing this to learn to love yourself, then great! However, if this is to shut yourself down to love, you should reconsider. Yes, love and relationships are never failsafe or foolproof, but if you don’t chance it, it will never happen. You may have dated men that hurt you – but not all of them do that! Love is not always easy – it might even hurt sometimes – but in the end, love is so worth it. And you know it. So do single for now and not forever.
