By Mikkel Hyldebrandt Photos: A24 Films LLC The following review may contain mild spoilers There is a particular horror hype when it comes to A24, which has given us chillers like Hereditary, Ex Machina, and Midsommar, to name a few. Bodies Bodies Bodies does do the trick of creeping under your skin, but it goes beyond the jump scares and mounting suspicions among friends – very true to A24 style. On the surface, it looks like a 20-something Gen Z horror flick. Still, the brilliant cast and director Hailan Reijn’s vision creates a new twist that explores the darker (and involuntarily funny) traits of our youngest Thegeneration.setupis classic horror: a group of young people are stuck at a remote mansion during a hurricane, they decide to play a harmless murder-in-the-dark party game which goes deadly wrong, and now they have to find out who the killer among them is. Fueled by plenty of alcohol and drugs and by the lights of their phone flashlights, the group roams through the mansion to find the killer, only to see the body count and internal conflicts rise. The twist here is that no one makes good decisions, making everyone quite annoying, which makes the fumbling quest through the house and climbing body count an oddly fun watch.
Things immediately become uncomfortable as Sophie (Amandla Stenberg), who recently did a stint in
So BodiesBodiestriggered:Bodies
It is in the mix of the whodunnit of it all that things turn comical, revealing the real strength of this movie. It brings a certain freshness to the genre that all conflict and drama is hinged on social media buzzwords of today. A discussion becomes gaslighting, a phrase is triggering, an argument is silencing, while everybody is just longing for their own safe space. Even during the most dramatic life-or-death moments, the characters barely ease the grasp of their phones. The whole group proves themselves rather incompetent to deal with issues without amplifying them through what social media has taught them and making them all-defining character traits. The grating narcissism –best portrayed by Alice (Rachel Sennott) –makes it desperate and hilarious to watch. So why should you watch a dark comedy horror movie about terrible Gen Zers? Well, for starters, it’s exceptionally wellmade. The pace is excellent, the cast is brilliant, and the screenplay is ‘hilar.’ Plus, in true A24 fashion, twists and turns flip the script quite a few times, including the last gruesome and hilarious moments of the film that reveal the real killer.
rehab, introduces her very new girlfriend Bee (Maria Bakalova) to her group of privileged friends: longtime bestie David (Pete Davidson), David’s girlfriend Emma (Chase Sui Wonders), the strong-minded Jordan (Myha’la Herrold), the bit much podcastress Alice (Rachel Sennott), and her latest (and somewhat older) catch from the dating apps, Greg (Lee Pace).
Newcomer Bee (and the audience) rapidly notice that things are way off in the friend’s group, and it doesn’t take long for old conflicts and skeletons in the closet to come to light, turning this reunion ugly. Once actual bodies are thrown into the mix, things spiral out of control in true whodunnit style.
By Mikkel Hyldebrandt The Dragon Con Night at the Georgia Aquarium has grown to become the biggest party event of the sci-fi and fantasy convention – and with good reason! Since it was conceived over a decade ago by John Walker, Director of Group Sales at the aquarium, the evening offers partygoers the opportunity to immerse themselves in a fully realized universe where you can live out your wildest costume fantasies. We spoke to John about how the party came about, its links to Atlanta’s Pride, and what’s in store for this year’s party.
The first Dragon Con night in 2009 started with 500 attendees and basically no production or added entertainment. Today, we are approaching 3500 attendees, an enormous VIP area, and DJs scattered throughout the Aquarium.
An Aquarium Fantasy
One of my favorite memories was when the event crossed over to a sold-out event. That is a huge milestone to achieve 3500 tickets sold. The event also has hosted many iconic stars of the sci-fi, horror, and fantasy entertainment
Looking back, what are some of this party’s highlights and biggest moments?
John, the Dragon Con Night at the Aquarium has grown to icon status over the years. Can you tell us how the party started? How did you come up with the idea? In 2009, I walked through the central atrium of the Aquarium before opening to the public. The design, the light show, the effects, and the atmosphere of the atrium reminded me of another future world. Then, instantly I thought of Dragon Con and how this world-class attraction could complement their incredible international convention. I began cultivating a wonderful and personal connection with the founding family of Dragon Con, and together we gave life to an incredible extension of their programming. This is our 13th year hosting this party. The grandeur and scale of this event is only matched by one other party at the aquarium: the Pride kickoff. Are the two signature events somehow linked? Yes, at the same time, the lights went off in my head for the potential Dragon Con Night, the light show inside the Aquarium projected the Pride flag rainbow colors as I was brainstorming Dragon Con. Dragon Con is an already extremely diverse convention attracting even more diverse attendees, so it wasn’t a stretch to imagine a large-scale Pride party happening at the aquarium. So, both parties were conceptualized from that same inspiration because the Dragon Con world and Pride world do crossover and co-exist.
Can you talk a little bit about how the party has grown over the years?
UGHHHHH. I tried that one year, but I am seriously working hard at the event, and some of the employees and customers thought I was just a guest trying to be pushy and pretend I was working the event. I also thought of dressing as a World of Coke employee to confuse my team. It’s a fine line that I am ok crossing. We will have to see what vibe I’m feeling on 9/3/22.
What are some of the best costumes you’ve experienced over the years? The attendees are just so talented in designing their costumes. The aquatic-themed characters like Aquaman and Little Mermaid and the subtle tongue-in-cheek like Yellow Gorton’s Fisherman were so sarcastically funny.
This year’s event will be the most extravagant production with new entertainment elements, four DJs, and an expanded futuristic intergalactic VIP space. That’s all I’m saying for now – the rest you’ll have to come and experience for yourself. You obviously do your utmost to create the complete fantasy. Do the guests go just as far when it comes to dressing up? The guests are the feature focus of the event. Let’s be honest; many of the guests upstage the event. They truly “bring it”! KUDOS!
And looking forward, what can people expect from this year’s party? Can you disclose any details about the theme?
You’re obviously a visionary when it comes to creating a party experience. Where do you find your inspiration?

world. I am a huge fan of horror movies, and when I got to meet Jason from Friday the 13th, I was seriously starstruck. Another fun memory was when someone on my team told me a guest wanted to speak with me. I went to meet the guest, and it was actor Brendan Fraser who wanted to thank me for creating such a magical event, and he was in “awe.” That really hit me.
My mind is crazy. Everything that I look at, I dissect it and reimagine it. Fantasy worlds, alternate future dimensions, bright lights, and space visuals always get my attention.
Dragon Con Night at the Aquarium
Ok, last question – and this is important: What will you be dressing up as at Dragon Con Night at the Aquarium?
An LGBTQ+ Class of Superheroes
The story revolves around our main hero Queen Izaar who our human ancestors created to safeguard humanity. Queen Izaar and her expartner, Lucifer (now a villain), were gifted with the knowledge and responsibility that if humans vanished, they could give birth to humanity once again on a new planet, Earth. But there is one problem with that; our ancestors also left her with an ancient enemy that will not stop until humanity completely vanishes. The heroes initially fight for LGBTQ+ rights, but as they join Queen Izaar, they discover a more significant conflict. Each hero plays an essential role in the fate of humanity. They must put aside their resentment against the way society has treated them for being LGBTQ+ and come together because the last fight is the one for the survival of the human race.
Your amazing superheroes have introduced readers to so many facets of the LGBTQ+community: gay, lesbian, trans, nonbinary, etc. Tell us about some of your favorite heroes. No doubts Queen Izaar (drag hero) and Neveah (transgender hero) are among my two favorites. Queen Izaar, not only because of the leading role she plays in the series, but also because she is our creator and a drag queen, which is so powerful. Her character was inspired by Sister Roma, one of the orders of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. This charity has helped thousands of people throughout their 40+ years. I believe drag queens are true heroes of our community that deserve to be celebrated. Over 50 years ago, they started a movement with the trans community, inspiring me to create my other favorite, Neveah. Our transgender hero, at an early age, was thrown out onto the street by her biological parents for being transgender. As homeless, she often found herself facing constant attacks that would cause her to try to commit suicide which many, including myself, can relate to. Still, she rises to become a superhero, to send a message that no matter what you have been through, where you

A couple of years ago, Peach introduced readers to the fantasy universe of Class6: a group of LGBTQ+ superheroes united by the ancient Queen Izaar who fight for the survival of the human race. Not surprisingly, lots have happened since last we checked in with creator and mastermind, Fernando Velez, and true to any successful comics series, it’s on an epic scale.
Class6 has fiercely LGBTQ+ superheroes with superpowers linked to their identity. Do you see being member of the LGBTQ+ community as a superpower? More than a superpower, I believe being a member of the LGBTQ+ community makes us all heroes. We experience many obstacles and challenges that others don’t experience in life. These events test the core of our strength. We fight for what we believe even against all odds, and we fight together. When I first started to write about LGBTQ+ heroes, the hard part was to choose the first six heroes because when I looked around, I found myself surrounded by real heroes in our community, activists that day-by-day continue to create change for generations to come. We are more powerful than we think of ourselves, and I hope with my characters and stories, I can bring out the best hero within all of us. Before we dive into all the developments of Class6 (and beyond!), can you give us a little background about the series for those who don’t yet know you?
I am from Puerto Rico, a mix between African, Spanish, and Indigenous Tainos. I wanted to create a series that would celebrate my ancestors. To tell a powerful story about a race like no other, led by woman warriors that are spiritual, free, and superior to the English Colonists who will bring their entire kingdom to war just to defeat them. The colonists are unaware this “tribe” was descendants of incredibly intellectual women who brought humans and reptilians to this Universe. I also want to remind people about the worst crime committed, which continued to affect the generations that followed, slavery.
When they discovered that their Universe was contracting to vanish, a group of human woman scientists (LOAS) developed a technology that would allow them to send ten different missions each to other young universes. The last mission landed here in our Universe, and with that last mission, was a preserved fetus called Kian, which within his DNA sequences were stored the most advanced database and technology ever seen before in our universe.
You can access the Kraven Comics series and all episodes digitally at no cost at kravencomics. com, where you can also purchase hard copies of all our books and cool merchandise.
On the subject of significant world issues: your other project, Loas, is a comics series about a powerful female-led African tribe fighting colonization. What was the inspiration?
Tell us how we can get our hands on all these gorgeous publications!
Can you tell us a little about the latest episode of Class6 called Nightmares? Well, Nightmares was quite the nightmare to produce! No kidding! With each episode, I try to focus on one of the characters and their backstory. In this particular episode, we learn more about Kian, our bisexual bear hero. Through his nightmare, I take the readers into the Universe of origin of our human ancestors who lived among their sister race, the reptilians.
Also,Comics.as an original work, we are preparing to discuss with the Sisters of Perpetual of Indulgence about producing a non-profit comic book series “The Sisters,” which will be part of the Kraven Universe. All profits will be for their charity of The Sisters to continue their extraordinary work in our community.
are in life, you have what it takes to become a hero. The Class6 comics series tackles some pretty epic issues about human survival at the hands of the LGBTQ+ heroes. Do you use contemporary world issues to build the story arc? Yes, I do. Since I was a little kid, I used my imagination to alter my reality, where I, as a gay little kid, mattered in a world that needed me. I am consistently inspired and motivated by current events not only to create awareness of what many of us experience in different parts of the world for being LGBTQ+ but also to infuse these issues into a plot of a world that includes political and social justice and addressing religion more scientifically. I invite the readers to explore another version of the origins of life in the Universe in a way that we LGBTQ+ individuals play an essential role, not only in the future and survival of our human race but also in the past and history of life as a whole.
We will soon launch an LGBTQ+ children’s book, Welcome, about two pugs and their two loving moms. This is a book created by a fan of Kraven Comics, Sergio Giovani. We take pride in publishing his book under the label of Kraven
I am also working on a comic book series similar to the style of the movie Madagascar. This series, “Pride,” is about the two gay penguins that steal an egg at a zoo. The story line will be a comedy with lots of laughs and lots of tears. We are also planning on developing a small short series, “Baby Class6,” which will be a south park style parody of our heroes. By year-end, we are confident we will have a TV animated deal with a major Hollywood studio and with me directing.
Your imagination seems to have no bounds. What other projects are you working on?

Q: This winter, I anticipate having to skip some holidays with my family due to work. Any chance you have advice on how to get past the depression or hump I’m going to feel this holiday season without A:them?I think we have to consider back to Covid times last year when we asked this question. We had very similar situations where we couldn’t see family be cause of the virus, and we had to separate: how did you deal with it then? You had to tell yourself that to be as safe as possible for everyone involved; you had to stay away. You thought of your family first. If you think of your family first this season, you’ll start to think of other special ways that you can make the holidays special for you all on your own terms now. No need to get upset about not seeing one another when you can make every effort to celebrate in a different way. Being upset does nothing but drain you of any energy you may have to work towards a solution.
