10 Tips toPrepare for a 10K Edited
Models: Thomas Barker, Jamel Grooms, Jason Traylor, Nikole Glaug, DJ Pulce, Chris Scandrett , Lance Hornecker , Kyle Strahl, Jesse Brunstad You’ve put in all the work, all the miles, and all the training –and the day of your 10K is fast approaching! Peach asked the running experts of Front Runners Atlanta about they prepared for lululemon 10K Tour this Saturday, October 22. All sportswear provided by lululemon. Available at lululemon. com or at one of Atlanta’s lululemon stores.

1. Increase Run Distance

Try to increase your running distance so it exceeds that of the official race. This will make race day feel “easier than expected” and boost confidence. Plus, you may even improve your personal best.

2. Curate a Playlist

Running to music is a great way to keep pace or amping you up as you run. The right playlist can even be timed to put you in the right head space for when you need to give a little extra.

3. Vary Your Workouts

You may be training for a 10K, but strength training and other types of cardio, like biking or swimming, can be very beneficial in building your overall strength.

4. Simulate the Race

Going into a 10K with a strategy is a smart move – especially if you want to improve your personal best. Running a 10K in advance and mapping out where you generally feel your best and where you struggle will give you an idea of how to run the 10k race.

5. Get Good Sleep

Getting enough sleep is key to optimal performance but also for recovery after your run. Feeling rested will also make you feel more present and ready to give it your all.

6. Acknowledge the Challenge

There is a huge difference between running a leisurely 10k and racing a 10K. Running at your highest effort can hurt a lot, so respect the distance, and prepare yourself for the physical discomfort that may happen.

7. Do a Thorough Warmup

When you are about to participate in a race, be sure to warm up. Because you are competing in a race you may push yourself even harder, so make sure your body is warm and ready for this challenge.

8. Stretch After the Run

Stretching after your run – especially if you pushed yourself – is key to reduce muscle aches and soreness. Even a few minutes of stretching will make a difference in your muscle recovery.

9. Use Running as Your Space

Running is more than physical goal and competing with others. Focusing on running as a personal haven where you can access inner peace and a safe space, will grant you clarity and help you find your center in the world.

10. Take It All In

Running an organized 10K is a lot of fun before, during, and after the actual race. You may be running to compete, but don’t forget to take it all in: the other runners, the spectators, the cheer stations are all there to motivate you, so don’t forget to revel in it all.

All sportswear provided by lululemon. Available at lululemon. com or at one of Atlanta’s lululemon stores.

Welcome to the lululemon 10K Tour ATL

The lululemon 10K Tour ATL is happening this Saturday, October 22 at 8 am, and the vibes are guaranteed to be high.

Participants will gather at the start line outside Mercedes Benz Stadium, and once the race starts, the course will be filled with all-out cheer stations from some Atlanta favorites, including Front Runners ATL. As runners exit the course, they will receive a unique 10K medal and some post-race fuel.

Last-minute registration to this awesome 10K experience at registration-atlanta. lululemon10ktour.com.

Get Outta Town This Fall!

Fall is pretty much the best time to travel, whether you want to pack a sweater or aswimsuit. The busiest travel season is over, which means fewer crowds and often better deals on flights and accommodation. So, here are some of the top LGBTQ+ destinationsto book this fall.

New Orleans, Louisiana

If you’ve ever experienced the oppressivehotness and humidity of a summer day inNOLA, imagine how much more pleasant acool(er) fall day would be. With SouthernDecadence in September and plenty ofFrench Quarter Halloween festivities, New Orleans is a perfect gay destination for fall.

Key West, Florida

Even in the fall, it’s as if summer never really leaves, and you can still catch a fewrays poolside or on the beach. As a gaydestination, Key West is famed for plentyof clothing-optional resorts and hotels anda bustling nightlife that doesn’t cool downeven as the temperature drops.

Palm Springs, California

There’s something about Palm Springs asit re-emerges from its scorching summermonths and into the cooler season. The Midcentury architecture oasis in the desertseems to bloom, offers fantastic cultural options like Modernism Week in October, and even celebrates its own Pride in November.

New York City, New YorkNYC is an excellent option for fall as thetourist season winds down significantly.Whether you want to catch shows onBroadway, experience world-class arts,or do some world-class shopping, youknow New York has it. Plus, if you want tosee the foliage change, Central Park is amesmerizing oasis of changing leaves in thecity’s heart.

Asheville, North Carolina

This surprisingly queer gem in the deep-redstate of North Carolina may not have thenightlife scene of a sizeable LGBTQ+ city, butit certainly has the quirkiness with plenty ofartists, street art, and architecture. In the fall, Asheville becomes a gallery of changingleaves, which is viewed perhaps the bestfrom the balconies of the breathtakingBiltmore estate.

Boulder, Colorado

With some of the best treks in the countryand 300 days of sun, Boulder may not bean LGBTQ+ nightlife destination, but itcertainly has abundant options for outdooractivities. As an LGBTQ+ haven in the state, it has its fair share of queer bars and clubsif that’s the physical fun you’re looking for.

Provincetown, Massachusetts

The Northern tip of Provincetown is well-known for its many LGBTQ+ events year-round, including Spooky Bear for Halloweenin October. Find a quaint bed & breakfastand enjoy the many restaurants and barsfor a perfect transition to cooler weather –because it is pretty much always sweaterweather in Ptown.

Extraordinary KURIOS-ity

The Canadian circus, Cirque du Soleil, premiered their KURIOS —Cabinet ofCuriosities on October 6 at Atlantic Station. KURIOS first made its debut April24, 2014, and is Cirque’s 35th production.KURIOS is an entertaining tale aboutvarious characters in a fantastical, steam-punk reality. The show starts witha merry band of travelers that movesthrough the audience and leads to thestage where a world class performance ofjuggling, singing, dancing, contorting, andacrobatics takes place. KURIOS takes ontraditional circus acts and motifs with the whimsical flare that quintessential Cirquedu Soleil with dramatic make up, multi-textured costumes, and daredevil tricks.

Seeped inbronze and brass, blue and greencolor, the stage usesprops such asan oversized book featuring theCradle Duo; an invisible circus comedic act led by Facundo Giminez; a large mechanical hand for the four contortionists; a wide net for the reptilian Acro Net act; an airplane forthe rola bota; and a table and chairs for the mind-bending Upside Down Worldhand-balancing act featuring AndriiBondarenko. The stage opens for theAerial Bike, where a beautiful woman weaves through her bike in midair(and upside down)! The Siamese twinsperform the Aerial Straps Duo, a highlypoetic performance that tells a story ofstrength, grace, masculine physique, andpartnership. Audiences will be captivatedby the Theatre of Hands and Yo-Yo actsfor their charm, whimsicality, and humor. Each act demonstrates astonishing skillsthat will leave audiences smiling, gasping, and laughing from the sheer talent andjoy these artists demonstrate.

KURIOS’s time run is two hours in our reality, but only one minute in the Cirquereality. In the backdrop, a clock thatslowly changes pre-show to reach 11:11.By the show’s end, the clock reads 11:12.Only one minute in this fantastical reality!

The audience is immersed in a timeholds-no-bounds steam-punk world asthe performers share the show’s story:“a Seeker discovers that in order to glimpse the marvels that lie just below thesurface, we must first learn to close our eyes. In his larger-than-life curio cabinet, the Seeker is convinced that there exists a hidden, invisible world—a place where thecraziest ideas and the grandest dreams liewaiting.”

The story for KURIOS reaches a cerebrallevel that some audience members could be left unsure how each marvelous act connects. Viewers will undoubtedlyrecognize the signature Cirque du Soleilflare, recognizing each act stems from “traditional” circus acts (ringleader, juggler, acrobatics, arial, etc.).

KURIOS certainly reaches a realm unlike the cirque’sother shows, making it a standout. Audiences should see this otherworldly experience during thetour’s Atlanta tenure: October 6 through December 24.In fact, they should see it multiple times.Probably the best two hours one couldspend. Each seat under the big top willgive viewers the perfect view of KURIOS—Cabinet of Curiosities!

My boyfriend of many years has expressed an interest in engaging in pup play, and the other day he even brought home a puppy hood that he wants to wear. Quite honestly, I am a little freaked out by the whole thing and don’t know how to handle it–or him! I’m afraid even to ask him what he wants from me. How do I deal with this fetish? And what if I don’t want to?

A fetish can be challenging to understand, so the first step is to start talking! Get over your fear of talking to your boyfriend and start by asking him about what the appeal is to him. Try to approach it with a non-judgmental mindset and don’t react negatively when he tries to explain why he has this fetish. You are naturally also allowed to express your apprehension to him, but again don’t label anything negatively and try to understand each other’s perspectives. If you love him, you’ll put in the effort to understand him, and if he loves you, he will never force you to do anything you don’t want to do. But there is nothing wrong with broadening your horizons and learning more about each other, so start communicat ing. Who knows, maybe you’ll learn to appreciate certain aspects of pup play, and it will become another extension of your relationship.
