HAPPY TRAILS PINCUSHION MOUNTAIN 5
The inspiration for the name Pincushion was the result of the needle-like appearance of the burnt trunks of pines that were left sticking out of the rocky knob following a forest fire prior to 1890. Today the burnt trunks have long gone and been replaced by Ponderosa pines. In the past, climbing the mountain was such a popular occurrence that it became a tradition to say that you were not a “real Peachlander until you had conquered the summit. In Peachland’s 2009 Centennial year both locals and visitors adventurous enough to climb the mountain were awarded with either a “Real or “Honorary Peachlander certificate signed by Peachland’s mayor. Many Peachlanders make an annual trek up the mountain and several geocaches have been hidden ready to be found by avid GPS hunters. A Canadian flag flies proudly from its peak.
You can email your photo: eboyes@peachland.ca
A map of the trail is available at the Peachland Visitor Info Centre. To receive your certificate, present as proof, a digital image or photo to the District of Peachland. The mountain is climbable in 2 to 2 ½ hours (including a ½ hour rest at the top) by reasonably fit families. This includes young children.

The entire property is about 44 hectares in size, including a lake frontage of nearly two kilometers, one of the longest privatelyowned stretches of waterfront on the lake. Ice-wine is a mystic historical wine invented by accident in Germany and perfected by Hainle Vineyards Estate winery in Canada. Hainle Vineyards Estate Winery is North America’s first producer of Ice-wine and holds a special place in Canada’s history books. Protected by international law, Ice-wine is the only wine in the world which still has to be made traditional like in the mid 1800’s in order to carry the name Ice-wine on the label. Ice-wine is also the rarest and most desired wine in the world. It is on average the most expensive wine sold in the world. Ice-wine is one of a few wines which will last over 100 years if stored properly. Because of this, Ice-wine is a greatly desired collectors wine. CENTENNIAL WAY Spring, summer, fall, winter. Centennial Pathway is the best place to walk in the Okanagan Valley! You can also jog, roller blade, bike, pull the kids in a wagon, exercise your dog, or practice for a marathon.
5
We also like to say it is the safest walkway in the valley. The multi use walkway provides a seamless pathway along a portion of Peachland’s scenic stretch of Okanagan Lake and has many environmentally advanced features such as the green belt “bioswale”, or “rain garden” that utilizes native, low water-use plants. The pathway has stencilled bike markings to help guide all users sharing the route, safer pedestrian-activated crosswalk lights with a coloured and textured crossing surface, energyefficient path lights, including new LED lit benches for safety – a first in Canada, improved access to the beach, including a new wheelchair-accessible picnic table. It is well maintained by the District of Peachland’s public works staff, an important feature for ‘winter walkers.’ Along the route you will encounter friends to visit with, incredible aspects of Lake Okanagan, many photo ops, benches to tempt you, and shops and restaurants to enjoy. It can be a hub of activity, but a serene, quiet therapy at other times as well. You might make a new friend. A resident who tells you “I came to Peachland on a vacation and I just stayed.” Centennial Pathway, on Beach Avenue, lakeside. You want to be here.

night life ATTENTION ECO/EDUCATIONAL TRAVELLERS!
TWINKLE, TWINKLE LITTLE STAR…
A Yuma Bat colony, one of the largest in BC, is housed in the attic of our historic Peachland Primary School, creating a unique educational experience. Bats are a protected species and are valuable mammals in the eco system. They can eat up to three quarters of their body weight in insects each night and mosquitoes are their choice of diet in Peachland, thus explaining why Peachland is virtually mosquito free. Every night, from April to October, the Peachland bats leave their roost. At dusk they start exiting from the Peachland Primary School and head out over Swim Bay and the lake.
In Peachland we have a different kind of night life. True to Peachland’s unique charm, nighttime continues the magic. Twinkling lights of all descriptions surround you at nighttime. Lights reflecting on the lake as you sit on the beach waiting for our Peachland bats to appear. The starry expanse of night sky twinkling at you as you take an evening stroll on our Centennial Pathway. The lights in the Gasthaus on the Lake’s Winter Market. Light – Up ceremony, the first Friday in December. Fireworks on the 1st of July, watched from shore or from your boat. Outdoor restaurant patios, on a soft summer evening.
It’s a fascinating sight! Take a blanket and sit outside the Primary School or on the beach at Swim Bay on a starry night to view these little mammals take flight for their nightly foraging. Make sure you are ‘in position’ by dusk.
Magical Peachland. Starry, starry night.
To learn more about our friendly Peachland Bats visit www.peachlandbats.ca or drop into our Visitor Centre and pick up a ‘Batty ‘souvenir!

taste It’s not just about the yummy food, it’s the whole enchilada, the whole experience. Peachland‘s restaurant/eatery community doesn’t disappoint! With the abundance of farm fresh fruits and vegetables grown in our sun drenched valley, the local proprietors and chefs join the trend to use only the finest, locally grown ingredients. Like a fine wine, and a perfectly, orchestrated meal pairing, Peachland has a lovely blend of dining experiences to offer you. If you’re arranging to meet a friend in a knock-out location, of course you think of BLISS BAKERY AND BISTRO. Once you’re there you know it is now your favourite, casual tete-de-tete in the valley. The food, the service, the presentation! Bliss’s taglines always include ‘love.’ We guarantee you, this is love at first sight.

bliss IS A STATE OF MIND
If you’re looking for healthy choices, your search has ended – HAPPY COW CAFÉ AND CATERING serves it up right! Gluten free, dairy free, raw foods…. It’s so good and makes you feel good. You owe it to yourself. Kind of goes nicely with the adjacent fitness centre. This little café is tucked into the corner of the Peachland Centre. What if you’re downtown Peachland, strolling around, enjoying the free Wi Fi? A great choice is ROCKY J’S BEACH HUT. It’s a happening place with tasty food. There’s always some music event or jamming going on too. These guys really know how to throw a party! Check out their daily food and coffee specials. Want to sit outside on the only lakeside deck overlooking a marina and the lake? Want plentiful portions, new twists to old favourites? Want homemade Almond Roca? Just pull into the BLIND ANGLER at the south end of Beach Avenue. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all worth a visit. Ask Cherie about her Killer Peach Pie! Designer pizza? Outdoor patio dining? Great wine menu? Ride home? THE WATERFRONT GRILL & PIZZERIA on Beach Avenue in the downtown area is a popular day and night spot.
Our newest addition to Beach Avenue – Look for the Gelato shop! Back up to the Peachland Centre. BIG E’S is great sports bar and grill featuring nightly specials, pool tables, and Shuttle Service. Traditional easy dining – SUBWAY & CANADIAN TWO FOR ONE PIZZA keep family dining affordable. If you’re grabbing something quick for your picnic on the beach or your boat – here’s an easy solution. Friendly staff, great service, you’ll be glad they are there for you! We can’t fail to mention our incredible B & B community. If you’re staying in Peachland look forward to some amazing breakfast fare. Yes, guests do return year after year just for the best breakfast they ever had. No confusing amount of choices to make in Peachland. Instead, dare I say… we have hand-picked dining options for you!
A family owned business, Bliss Bakery and Bistro was started by Barry and Darci Yeo. Our vision was a village bakery providing both exceptional quality food and coffee, and a place for friends to gather. We believe that every ingredient, every method and every piece of equipment should be carefully selected to produce the finest quality end product. Your visit to the Okanagan wouldn’t be complete without experiencing Bliss.

DESTINATION PEACHLAND VISITOR’S GUIDE
If you’re looking for the most authentic Oktoberfest celebration in the Okanagan, you have to take in the festivities at the GASTHAUS ON THE LAKE restaurant the second and third weeks of September. Also don’t miss the Gasthaus’ legendary medieval dinners; everyone taking on the role of a medieval diner is part of the fun but it’s the impressive feast you will never forget! The main event is served on a huge 150lb cast iron pan that two chefs bring to your table. And of course, summertime – their huge outdoor patio across from the lake is renowned.

therapy Surrounded by sloping hills, colourful orchards, picturesque vineyards and majestic Ponderosa pines, Peachland is an “ah ha” moment as you turn off Highway 97 into the downtown core. Beach Avenue borders the lake with incredible unspoiled vistas, thanks to the far seeing town fathers who ensured 11 kms of unfettered lake frontage.
