Charrie Fichter had no good reason to pull over and ap-
proach the stranger sitting at the picnic table next to her daughter Ashlee Hyatt’s memorial bench overlooking Okanagan Lake in Peachland last week.
She described what compelled her to say hello as a vague force, and told the Peachland View on June 2 – Ashlee’s sixth “angelversary,” marking the day in 2010 when at 16 she
lost her life a few blocks up the road from where the bench now stands – that she could not be any happier that she did. It turns out the man was the first officer on the scene that
