This spring is the first year with our newest recreation amenity – the Peachland Skate Park. The Skate Park was a dream of youth and avid skateboarders from Peachland for many years. In 2012, Council committed funds from the Community Amenities Fund, and with vision and support from local riders, the skate park became a reality. For the few days it was open prior to the snow of winter, the skate park proved to be a great success. Skate parks are truly a multi-use amenity: all ages and all kinds of wheels can yield enjoyment from either riding or sitting back and watching the action. Watch for the official opening of the park late spring! Last year, Swim Bay saw record numbers in swim lessons and strong registration in the lifeguard development programs. The crew from last year is excited to launch a new season of learn to swim and lifesaving training. Here at the Community Centre we have a variety of other ‘Get Active’ opportunities and races available for you and your family. Remember to visit us online at www.peachland.ca or on Facebook (search Peachland Recreation) for the latest happenings. Cheryl Wiebe Director of Community Services

Shane and the Juice Crew I had my daughter and three grandsons down to your beach facility with the rope swing and diving boards. While there, the two older boys thoroughly enjoyed the dock, rope swing and diving boards. My 9 year old grandson has Cerebral Palsy and is in a wheelchair or uses braces and canes to get around – neither of which afforded him access to the water with his cousin and sibling. As my daughter was pushing him around in his wheelchair one of your lifeguards came up to her and offered her the use of a water-capable wheelchair and ramp for him. I just wanted to say thank you so very much for having that available for people! This type of accommodation is so appreciated! We had a wonderful day at your great beach and just want to express our appreciation. -Donna Campbell NOTE: Thanks to the Peachland Lions Club for making a trip to Swim Bay memorable for kids like Shane!

Swim Lessons Help your child develop a healthy lifestyle through swimming. Your child will learn to swim and stay safe in a fun environment that promotes a personal best and celebrates individual success. Our small class sizes in the beautiful Okanagan Lake make it an unique swim experience. Classes may be re-organized to ensure that children are participating at the most appropriate skill level. In the beginner levels, children will focus on getting comfortable in the water, water safety and will learn progressions that will lead to stroke development in the higher levels. As the children progress, they will learn both competitive and survival strokes while building their distance and speed. Children will also learn about making safe decisions in, on and around the water. In each level, participants are evaluated based on performance criteria and progress to the next level once all criteria have been successfully completed.

Fun in the Sun Tips: • Always swim with a buddy • Children under the age of 6 or non-swimmers should be within arms’ reach of an adult • PFD’s are recommended for children under the age of 6 or non-swimmers • Parent/guardians should actively supervise their own children • Wear your hat • Use waterproof sunscreen (reapply frequently) • Towel off after swimming (helps avoid swimmers itch)

Be Water and Sun Smart! Our waterfront lifeguards are on duty from Wednesday, June 19 to Friday, August 30 Monday through Sunday, 10:00 am-6:00 pm
