BRING BACK THE MIRROR!
Call for safety measures at Gatley traffic black spot
Gatley residents and drivers are calling for something to be done to curb the increasing spate of accidents at a junction at the centre of the village.
Collision
After yet another collision, this time involving a motorcyclist, the junction of Church Road and the A560 Northenden Road/Gatley Road is fast gaining a reputation as an accident black spot and there are calls for something to be done before it is a scene of a fatality. Some are even calling for a return of
the mirror that used to be erected outside the Horse and Farrier pub which faces the junction and allows better visibility for motorists. Currently drivers are having to edge out to see if their exit is clear in either direction which is the main cause for the accidents.
Mirror
The mirror was apparently removed when Hydes took over the pub and it is thought it is an issue for planning permission which is why it was taken down. Council Iain Roberts
said: “There have been lots of good ideas put forward by different people.
Problems
“We’ve tried to be up front and say if we think that an idea won’t work because it causes more problems than it solves (e.g. making Church Road one-way), is legally difficult (e.g. the mirror) or just too expensive (e.g. traffic lights). “I think a speed table is the most realistic”
lHAZARD The junction at the bottom of Church Road has become an ‘accident zone’ according to local residents and drivers.
