Jaelen Herlt, of Derwent Road, and Khaleem Harris, of Kilner View, both 20, appeared at Leeds Crown Court yesterday (Thurs). Neither made a formal plea
and both were remanded in custody. A further seven locals were charged with violent disorder in connection with the incident on Friday, February 17. They are Jonathan Newby, aged 21, of Foxroyd Lane; Ryan Scaife, aged 18, of Partridge Crescent; Kallum Harris, aged 19, of Kilner View; Ashley Longstaff, aged 19, of Lees Hall Road; Reece Hinchcliffe, aged 18, of Doubting Road; and a 17-yearold male.
Another male aged 17 has been charged with grievous bodily harm and violent disorder. They will all appear at Bradford Magistrates’ Court on September 1 and are out on bail. Police were called to The Scarborough pub in Thornhill at 8.35pm on February 17 after a member of the public reported a street fight outside on The Town, the road which runs through the heart of the village.
On arrival, police discovered 32-year-old Jonathan Binns had received serious injuries after being knocked down by a vehicle leaving the scene. Despite efforts by members of the public and emergency services, the father-of-one died later in hospital. Mr Binns, of Ings Crescent, Thornhill, worked at Dewsbury-based Dust Control Systems in Shaw Cross Business Park for more than 12 years.
