HUNT ON FOR BULLDOG VANDALS By Zoë Shackleton News Reporter zoe@thepressnews.co.uk
VANDALS caused up to £10,000 of damage as Batley Bulldogs’ ground was broken into for the fourth time in a month. Officials at the Championship club found the windows of hospitality boxes smashed when they arrived at Mount Pleasant on Tuesday. The culprits broke into the ground at around 3am and did not leave until before 6am, according to timings on CCTV footage. Chief executive Paul Harrison said: “We’ve gone up to the ground as normal and all the hospitality boxes were smashed. “They’ve taken very little, soft drinks and pop, but they’ve literally just smashed four rooms up. “They’ve caused £5,000£10,000 worth of damage. They were there between three and six o’clock – it took them that long to smash it up. They must have brought a hammer, smashed most of the windows and just completely trashed the place.”
The latest break-in comes after a spate of incidents at the Fox’s Biscuits Stadium. Former player Mr Harrison confirmed a total of four breakins in as many weeks. He is hopeful the police will be able to catch the culprits, with the help of good-quality CCTV images released on the club’s social media accounts. Mr Harrison said: “The police are involved, we’ve got a few names that people are mentioning. “Hopefully we can catch the culprits. Police have had forensics here and hopefully they can find out who they are.” A clean-up operation is now underway to get the boxes ready for Batley’s next home game against Dewsbury Rams a week on Sunday. “Fortunately we’re away this week so that gives us a bit of time. “We’ve had some volunteers that have very kindly come in and helped out (on Wednesday). “We’ve got a home game in two weeks against Dewsbury so hopefully it will be sorted by then, that’s the plan.” A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said:
