DRUG GANG JAILED FOR GUN ATTACK Trio get 47 years after shotgun blast on Dewsbury street
By Staff Reporters THREE men have been jailed for a total of 47 years following a targeted shooting in Dewsbury. Owais Ashfaq (18), Hasnain Khan (19) and Ahmed Mohammed (18) were sentenced at Leeds Crown Court for their involvement in the drug-related shotgun incident on February 1. The trio shot 24-year-old Aftab Khan in his car in front of his girlfriend after luring him to Cemetery Road for a drug deal. Judge Guy Kearl QC heard that Ashfaq had earlier that day bought some cannabis from Mr Khan in a trial run. Mr Khan was then directed to Cemetery Road in Dewsbury later that night so that Ashfaq could buy some more. When Mr Khan arrived there were four men inside a Volkswagen Golf waiting for him. Ashfaq approached Mr Khan’s car, and after being handed the cannabis, said he needed to go back to his car to get money. The rest of the men then got out of the Golf and one of them fired a sawn-off shotgun into the side of Mr Khan’s chest. Mr Khan managed to drive off but

the gang drove to Staincliffe Road where they attempted to steal another getaway vehicle. They threatened a couple at gunpoint but were unsuccessful as Ben and Amy Li Shen locked their doors and drove off to alert police. They were more successful when
they stole a Peugeot from John Buchan on Goose Hill in Heckmondwike. They forced him to his knees, making him hand over his keys and wallet. They drove the car from the scene and it was later damaged by fire.
Hasnain Khan, of Carrington Street, Bradford, and Ahmed Mohammed, of Bowling Green Lane, Longsight, Manchester, were both cleared of attempted murder but were found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life, attempted robbery of a couple in a car and robbery of another motorist. They were each jailed for 15 years with five years extended licence. Ashfaq, of Gladstone Street, Barkerend, Bradford, was sentenced to 17 years, also with five years extended licence, for the same offences and further ones of
